Title: VICE magazine
Post by: picolas on September 22, 2009, 03:54:23 AM
i just discovered this a few months ago. i'm sure some of you are already familiar. it's a really great publication. and it's FREE (at your local american apparel OR online through the official site. ridiculous.). i think the writing is so interesting/fresh because it's free. they're not pandering at all. the only semi-downside is that there's always a near-pornographic ad on the back cover. so you can't really read it in public without being mistaken for a pervert. and there's almost always nudity inside too so you can't just hide the back cover. this month's issue should appeal to every xixax'er.

it has interviews with von trier, lynch, herzog, jonze, this (http://www.viceland.com/int/v16n9/htdocs/photos-miranda-july-136.php) series of photos where miranda july poses as an extra from various movies and more.

I've been reading it for years. I buy the collected issues for coffee table books.

My favorite piece that they've done is their report on the gathering of the juggalo's.

the hippest comeback I'd ever made was this one time I told a dude I made out with a Nylon Magazine model for a scene in my friend's movie, he said oh yeah?  I hooked up with a girl from Vice and I said "well I bet she's a 'don't'."  There it was.

my roommates has vice in our bathroom but it's like too cool for shitting.

And do's and dont's.

There's a photo book, too, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Their photography is a bit too Larry Clark'ish for me.

I love Vice considering it's Free and really well put together considering, but the Do's and Don'ts is the worst part.  They never make any sense.  One issue will say something like "Look at this faggot with a beard, fuck this kid" and then in another they'll say "Totally rockin out the beard, top of the pops!"  It's as if they're ironic to their own sense of humor.

Otherwise, they have some great issues.  I have some great back issues like The Interview Issue, The Fiction Issue, and The Photography Issue (but these themes have been repeated, I just don't know which in particular mine are.)

So I've been waiting for my copy of the fur covered edition of Wild Things and I go to check the mail today and I received News, Nudity and Nonsense, the latest collected issue of VICE. I pre-ordered it months ago and totally forgot until I found it in my mailbox. Don't you love when that happens?

Anyways, you now who's gracing the front and back cover? None other than Soderbergh's latest muse, Mrs. Sasha Grey. It's a great cover. She's looking very school girl'ish and innocent with a devious smile on the cover, then on the back, it's the complete opposite.

this part made me laugh so much:

QuoteChris got so riled up by the insinuation that he was from the North that not only did he post pictures of all of the (non-Northern) flags on his truck, he also posted his phone number and requested that an admin call him to vet his Southern bona fides.

[update to my own post] upon initially "hatching" this post, I had only read the first part. I thought maybe this would be an interesting Vice article which I'd want to chat about for longer but no, it's a bunch of bullshit from the fun side or what. ever. so I wondered about this post and I scrolled down to the comments as is always an option, and:

QuoteReading this whole article was worth it for "I hear you got a strawberry banana coolata from Dunkin Donuts and liked it." Them's fightin' words !
