Justin Marks rewriting 'Captain Nemo'
McG to direct fast-tracked Disney project

Justin Marks has come on board to rewrite Disney's redo of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo."

Remake will serve as an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. Characters come from the Jules Verne novel and the 1954 actioner, that was the first live action film made by Walt Disney. Studio is fast-tracking the project that McG will direct.

Project is the latest pop culture notch in Marks' belt after penning scripts for "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," "Street Fighter" and a Green Arrow actioner. First draft was penned by Bill Marsilli.

Sean Bailey ("Tron 2.0") is producing with McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision. Jeanne Allgood serves as exec producer.

Disney hopes to make the film this year and is McG's follow up to "Terminator: Salvation."

Stephen Gaghan set to adapt 'Dead Spy'

Stephen Gaghan has been tapped to pen the adaptation of "Dead Spy Running," an espionage novel to which McG is attached to direct for Warner Bros.

Based on a book by British author Jon Stock, the film is meant to be the first in a trilogy and aims to reinvent the spy genre by telling the origin story of a newly trained spy in a tone that mixes the grittiness of "The Bourne Identity" with the wittiness of John Le Carre's oeuvre.

"Spy," to be published in June, begins with the protagonist running the London Marathon, where a fellow racer is strapped with explosives. The scenario leads to a globe-trotting adventure to clear the name of the man's father.

McG, who would direct at least the first installment, is producing with Jeanne Allgood via their Warners-based Wonderland Sound and Vision.

Ollie Madden, one of the studio's U.K.-based execs, is overseeing.

WMA-repped Gaghan, an Oscar winner for "Traffic," is writing the adaptation of nonfiction book "Blink," to which he is also attached to direct, for Universal and Appian Way.

This is heaven: McG to reboot La Femme Nikita for The CW

When we heard this news, we squeed all over ourselves: The CW has ordered a pilot for a remake of La Femme Nikita, the 1990s USA Network show based on Luc Besson's French movie, from Supernatural producer McG.

La Femme Nikita! We loved the U.S./Canadian TV series for its moody ambience, doomed romance, complex sci-fi mythology and kick-ass action, featuring the smoking hot Peta Wilson and the mulletted and morose Roy Dupuis, not to mention Eugene Robert Glazer's Operations and especially Alberta Watson's Madeline.

We loved the movie for other reasons; mainly, the killer gamine Anne Parillaud and the kick-ass action. (Let us not speak of the 1993 U.S. remake, Point of No Return, featuring a miscast Bridget Fonda.)

Here's how The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reports the news about a remake.

McG ("Terminator: Salvation," "Human Target") will executive produce the "Nikita" remake, along with Peter Johnson from Warner Bros. and Wonderland Prods.

The French film "Nikita," about a young criminal who's trained to be an assassin by a top-secret government organization, was originally made by Luc Besson in 1990, then was remade in 1993 as a U.S. film starring Bridget Fonda called "Point of No Return." The story was then launched as a TV series in 1991 on USA Network.

"Nikita" will give The CW its first non-supernatural action-drama. In this version, Nikita goes rogue and a new assassin is trained to replace her.

This from the network that gave us Supernatural, Smallville and Gossip Girl. We love Supernatural, so here's hoping McG does right by one of our favorite franchises. And how about casting Wilson as the new Madeline?
