"Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art." - Andy Warhol

Royal Tenenbaum

There all just porn mags bound in a classy manner.

On the top shelf, farther away: Vince LoBrutto's Kubrick bio.

On the middle shelf: The perennial Projections series of filmmaker profile/interview compilations.
""Money doesn't come into it. It never has. I do what I do because it's all that I am." - Morrissey

"Lacan stressed more and more in his work the power and organizing principle of the symbolic, understood as the networks, social, cultural, and linguistic, into which a child is born. These precede the birth of a child, which is why Lacan can say that language is there from before the actual moment of birth. It is there in the social structures which are at play in the family and, of course, in the ideals, goals, and histories of the parents. This world of language can hardly be grasped by the newborn and yet it will act on the whole of the child's existence."

Bottom shelf: The Royal Tenenbaums  :yabbse-thumbup:
At wave level, everything exists as a contradiction. Everything is existing in more than one stage/place at any given moment. Everything must move/vibrate and constantly change to exist. Everything, including buildings, mountains, oceans and thoughts.

Is that his house or the Tenenbaum house? Those sound like cool books, I don't why but...I never thought of the idea of Wes liking David Lynch.

Why wouldn't a great filmmaker like an even greater ? And why do you say that ? Their themes are different ? Tim Burton made Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Hey man, maybe Audrey Tautou is a big fan of stripping clubs. You can't presume.

Quote from: ebeaman"I was my own best friend. Me and the camera. I just let it watch the clouds go by and the sunset. Boring things for most 10-year-old kids, but something I've always been attracted to."
David Gordon Green

That's the guy who did All the Real Girls ? Oh my god...this is beyond snobism ...do you quote that as a joke?

don't be so uptight. wes anderson is a symbol of innocence. david lynch is not. that is why ebeaman found it unexpected.
I dream of birds and sometimes they land and burst into flames. And I dream my teeth are rotting. And when I am awake, I dream of you.

I don't know man, I just never heard him talk about Lynch and I've read as many interviews as I can just to learn from him. You know, I was getting to know his taste pretty well...just didn't really think Lynch fit. That's awesome though! Don't get me wrong. I think that's fucking awesome if he likes his films. I hope he's influenced by him...it'd be cool to see some Lynch-esque type stuff in some of his films.

Sexterossa pretty much summed everything up already. I didn't get a good look at his (or her?) post before I started babbling. They're just so different in my eyes. They're both great, just different.

No, not really. I guess I can kinda relate to him. I live way out in the sticks like he used to and it's kinda of boring out here sometimes and there's no kids my age, or any kids at all that live around here...so I don't have many friends. I have some that live in the suburbs (which aren't far at all) but very few. I love it out here though, it can be the best place in the world when the weather's nice. I hate a lot of the suburbs, the people are so arrogant and dull that it just depresses me. The city is awesome. I love the two extremes of the state landscape. But I digress, you can't really know for sure if he was just being a snob and lying if you've never lived in rural America. Country kids are weird man...trust me. There's not a lot to do so you grow up finding stuff to do.

Gold Trumpet

Booth, how was that quote snobbist (or beyond) anyways? To do that, it seems he likely would have had to say how everyone else's activities at that time were dumb or something.

Yeah, I didn't really see anything the least bit smug about that quote looking at it now as he's made me self concious. It's pretty damn harmless. You gotta know a little more about the guy. I'm not saying I know him but I have an idea of how and why he would do something like that in his childhood, that's all.

godardian

Seems both Lynch and Anderson were heavily influenced by Bunuel. It definitely comes across differently in their films, though.
