Title: DVD Swap Meet
Post by: Raikus on September 17, 2003, 09:14:58 AM
Many of us are avid DVD buyers here. I'd imagine a healthy portion of our income goes to buying new releases as well as classic special editions. Therefore I think there's a way we can all benefit from each other.

Do you have a DVD you no longer watch? Did you partake in a blind buy that you really didn't like? Well, swap 'em. Post those DVD's you no longer care for or think others will enjoy here. If you see a DVD someone's willing to trade with, PM them and work out a deal (does this require a utopian society to succeed? Guess we'll find out).

Post the DVD's you want to offer up in this thread. After a while we should have a substantial library to barter with each other. I think this is a way everyone of the Xixax community can benefit.

DVD's Offered Up:
Harvard Man
Dogma (Bare Bones)
Pulp Fiction: SE (region 2)

New addition: Army of Darkness: Bootleg Edition

Oh, and be fair. Don't try to offer a bargain bin DVD for a Criterion Edition, etc. Let's help each other out.

Hmm, I've got a few DVDs that I don't want anymore... Thank god for NETFLIX, I don't have to blind buy anymore. I'd sell or trade these--

Alphaville Criterion Edition - $18+$2 shipping
Bob Le Flambeur Criterion Edition - $18 + $2 shipping
13 Conversations about one thing - $10 even
also have The Crying Game I'd let go for $7 smacks including shipping.

Anyone want to buy them? no? okay

Cinephile--

this is a hard question for me to answer. i used to collect everything under the sun. i had a big collection that was all over the place. then one day i woke up and decided i wanted to whittle it down to the essentials, movies i could not live without. i just like it better this way. my collection is relatively small but it says a lot about who i am.

Any body have some cool movies by the Greats they'd be willing to part with? As some of you might have noticed I'm in the market for some movies by Fellini, Truffaut, Godard, Bergman, Clouzot, Tarkovsky, Cocteau, etc., especially at the moment the Criterion discs for them. It's hard for me to obtain these kind of movies without being hassled by my damn folks, so i think it'd help to just trade movies or buy them for cheap. Thanks, anyone.

That's why I said it's negotiable. I'm basing my costs on Amazon.com, so it's not like I did in depth research. I'm basically selling them at a decent price so if anyone wants to buy them from me (since they're in perfect condition), they can.

I also forgot to put:

Tommy Boy

Walrus, I'd really prefer trades. Just because if I gave a good deal I'd feel stupid for not getting enough money, and if I overcharged, well, in the whole movies-as-love-of-my-life strata, it'd be some shitty karma. But I'd definitely be up for trading 2 for 1, even the whole BTTF set for one (as long as it's good).

I just didn't like the movie AT ALL. It came off as cheeseball, overcooked, and not at all worth a second watch. But for those who worship at the altar of Hitchcock, it would be a joy to own, I'm assuming.

I agree.  I was sitting there watching it on commentary one day, I was excited for it actually, and I'm waiting to hear all these inside jokes or cool anecdotes.

And really the whole thing was Mel Brooks saying the lines as they were happening, laughing at the jokes in the movie, or just being silent.  Every once in a while he might say who was involved in the film, but that's about it.

Yeah, fair enough. It's just that the funny parts aren't that funny, cos, well, dictators and ghettos aren't generally funny... and the serious stuff doesn't work cos it looks so fake. Just a nice idea that misfired in a major way...

Dominion: Exorcist Prequel
Return Of The King Extended Edition
The Battle Of Algiers (Criterion)
Undertow
The Sword Of Doom (Criterion)
Burden Of Dreams (Criterion)

must slim collection... no trades, take deepdiscount price and minus some off it, but just a little bit, because I still have to ship from UK... unless you are in UK, which would make things a whole lot easier...

That's the right answer.

I saw them tonight for the first time in concert. Just brilliant. It's refreshing to see a band live up to their quality on stage. It doesn't happen much.

You might wanna hold onto that one. Entertainment Weekly's review said that the commentary track is different. The box set uses the old snapper case track.

Due to some open packages and lack of gift receipts, I ended up with two of these:

The dvd is still unopened and in its original packaging. Anyone willing to swap something of relatively equal value? Send me a pm with any ideas/offers.

Thanks!

Is that based on the fact I'm selling all my stuff or based on the titles listed?

I've been doing a MAJOR sort out today and have a ton of DVDs I really don't care to own any more. I was going to take them to Half Price Books by default, but does anyone have any better suggestions since I'd really like to get a reasonable bit of cash back. I also have a load of Region 2 DVDs I brought over here with me when I moved. Anyone know of anywhere stateside that'd take them off my hands?
