The Dissolve

"The Dissolve" will be Pitchfork's new movie website. So why am I still interested? It's actually being created by a team of former AV Club writers... and not just any AV Club writers!

Nathan Rabin. Head writer of the AV Club since its inception (until now). He coined the phrase "manic pixie dream girl." The always insightful Tasha Robinson, who wrote this great article about Game of Thrones' RW. Also Scott Tobias, Noel Murray, Genievive Koski, and the chief creator, Keith Phipps. This happens to be pretty much exactly everyone who was on the AV Club's now-defunct podcast, Reasonable Discussions. I've listened to every episode of that, so I feel like I know them all pretty well. They seem like they could make something fairly great.

It's supposedly launching "this summer." They've apparently started a blog in the mean time:

Latest episode of the Dissolve podcast has a segment on "everything is connected" movies, and they discuss Magnolia a bit.

The Dissolve podcast is basically a continuation of the AV Club podcast with better production value (and with the same people). It's been excellent from the beginning. Unfortunately it's bi-weekly, but I guess so is International Waters and How Did This Get Made.

So bummed. This was my favorite film site. Their release-date-agnostic Movie Of The Week series was so goood.

Sad indeed. I had wondered why they suddenly stopped putting out their podcast, and I guess this explains it.

It's been a good week for Nathan Rabin. "Manic pixie dream girl" made it into Oxford Dictionaries, and he just started writing a column for Rotten Tomatoes.

Tasha Robinson wrote something for The AV Club yesterday, and she's also writing for NPR.

They need to start a podcast again! (And then abruptly abandon it 5 months later.)
