Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky is turning to the small screen for his latest project, developing a psychological thriller with AMC.

The series project, "Riverview Towers," revolves around a family that moves into an apartment building with paranormal activity.

The script is being written by John J. McLaughlin, who wrote Aronofsky's upcoming film "Black Swan," a psychological thriller set in the world of ballet.

Aronofsky is executive producing through his production company, Protozoa. Also serving as executive producers are Eric Watson, Aronofsky's partner in Protozoa, and Jed Weintrob.

"Monster" helmer Patty Jenkins is in talks to direct should the project get picked up to pilot, though there is no deal yet.

Aronofsky and Watson previously set up the project with McLaughlin at HBO more than two years ago. McLaughlin is now writing a new script for AMC.

"AMC is committed to creating high-quality, cinematic originals that resonate strongly with our audience," said Christina Wayne, senior vp original programming. "We will continue to build on the network's original programming strategy and momentum with new series in development."

AMC has been building up its original programming slate, having launched its first two original dramas during the past year: the Golden Globe-winning "Mad Men," which also came to AMC via HBO, and "Breaking Bad," which debuted in January.

The network also recently announced an extensive development slate that includes "Fort Smith," from Robert Cochran; "Uninvited Guest," from Harley Peyton; an untitled Allison Anders Western, from Allison Anders and Terry Graham; and "Green Fields," from Nicky Silver.
