Title: was PTA at the Kill Bill premiere?

So was PTA at the Kill Bill premiere?  Why doesn't he do the whole publicity whore thing?

yeah he was there, it was really cool, I sat next to him, and swapped his red gummi bears out for my orange ones...he insisted on 2 straws and his own tub of popcorn thou (that bitch)...so I left during the title card.

*He does publicity, but for his own flicks.  I dunno, but I think it sorta makes sense to only have one director at a preimere...sure, others may want to see, but really, let that the director have his night.  Stay away, instead see it afterwards then rip his ass apart with wishes of testicular cancer or something.*

i just saw this on gregster's site:

There's a few PTA quotes in the latest Vanity Fair article/interview about Quentin Tarantino & his new film "Kill Bill" (Volumes 1 & 2). Here's the related excerpts: (Thanks John & William!)

As director Paul Thomas Anderson, a close friend, puts it, "If I were writing a Quentin character, he would be loud, lovely, soft, and so sweet you might not believe it - and above all he would be a mad motherfucker. I would cast someone with large balls, a lumbering walk, and a gentle, gentle touch."

He [Tarantino] once gave Paul Thomas Anderson a collection of trailers for his favorite movies as a birthday gift. "It wasn't just a bunch of trailers slapped together," Anderson says. "There was an artistic approach and a structure to the whole thing, which he spent all day on. All he wanted to do was watch me watching the trailers."

- so they are buddies. wonder what those trailers were.

i think other directors going out and seeing work is a good thing. it shows that they're supporting the work of other directors 'n stuff. coppola went to the adaptation premiere. (obviously b/c spike is banging his daughter)  he said sumthing like "spike jonze is gonna take over this town." an exaggeration sure, but its cool. also, i remember oliver stone going to the requiem for a dream premiere and praising aronofsky. u see, its a good thing.

I see your point...but also realize, stone or coppola are already established "greats" in the art of direction. Coppola is null n' void w/ regards to Jones...what is he going to say, "Spike sucks a big ass and I hope he fails"...Stone supporting Darren is cool...I dig that.  But I guess my point is, Tarantino and PT are still both up and coming directors (some here may disagree, but they are...figuratively speaking) and from what I have read I think there is a mutual respect between them.  But havin' the upcoming directors all gather for ones' premiere, thou inoccent to them maybe, would be blown out of porportion my dipshits like us.  So, I figure unless you have a real valid reason for being there (ex. bangin' someone's daughter) ...just let the guy have his night.

Quote from: mdpta and qt are good friends...i rememeber reading an interview about how paul felt bad because they were walking down the streets at night and kids were coming up to qt and saying how they loved pulp fiction and paul would just sit in the back saying quietly to himself while circling his thumbs, in a sad pitiful voice, "i made boogie nights guys"
Hehe.

I'm sorry, no disrespect to PTA or anything, but that's hilarious.  Makes me respect him even more, really.  I mean, you can't really have your cake and eat it too.  They're both fanboy film geeks who got to do their dream job for a living.  Only difference is Tarantino makes films more people respond to, and have become more integrated into pop culture.  Problem is, Tarantino doesn't seem to like people coming up to him all the time, and some have said he gets snippy when approached.  PTA is just a shy guy, I've heard, who hasn't had the chance for it to get to the point where he'd get annoyed by it, I imagine.

everybody likes boogie nights, they just don't know who paul is b/c he doesn't put himself in his movies or make himself very well known. the only people who really know what paul looks like are his big fans.

i agree. very good point. I can't quote this verbatim, but Vanity Fair said that "QT had become the first Rock-Star director." He's a recognizable icon with his big forehead and protuding chin; it's to the point that we would be able to recognize a caricature of him. QT is the Miramax bad boy. PTA is more incognito.

how many directors would u say would be recognized by the mainstream public? spielberg, scorsese maybe, spike lee (funny thing about lee- everyone knows who he is but no one has seen his films) well known directors r usually the ones who act as well, like clint eastwood.

i think a lot has to do /w ur name, as we all learned in boogie nights. 'quentin tarantino' is a cool sounding name, i have to say. where as something like 'paul thomas anderson' isn't as razor sharp. its long, not very original. the only thing he's got going for him is the p.t. anderson thing.

i know im doomed in hollywood cuz my name couldn't be more boring: bradford. geez, talk about dull. (although, i couldn't really think of any previous filmmakers named bradford, either first or last names. i got that going for me i guess)

brings up an interesting question; would u be willing to change ur birth name if it meant a lifetime of success making movies? (or atleast a chance to make ur dream picture) i think id be more willing to change my first name rather than my last. spike bradford... spike anderson bradford...quentin bradford... oliver bradford... martin bradford... nah.

nah...I almost consider it an insult to your parents.  A name used to have much more meaning thou I guess (I don't mean in a hollywood way).  This is coming from a kid who has heard a million stupid ass jokes about his name.

i actually considered changing my name because i felt i didnt really "belong" in my family. but then i found out that my grandfather isnt my real one, which means that i have his name but not his blood. something about that felt right, that im carrying this name that it isnt really who i am

maybe all you need is to spell it differently, like before "brad4d"

is it possible to sneak in a number into your first name?

i could just go as cbrad, but it would only work if i turned out to be a bad ass filmmaker. if i sucked ass i think id get made fun of.

i like the ring jean-pierre bradford has. plus, its mixing a french and an english name, which, i guess is cool.

Grandma's are never wrong, it's an unwritten and unchallenged rule.  I believe this answers your own question.  No, need to change a thing.

you can kinda get more mileage if you use "a film by eric ward" rather than "an eric ward picture"

i dunno, 'a film by' always feels like it has to have piano chords playing in the background, you know? ahh, i guess it depends on the picture.
