Angelina Jolie Want to Quit Making Movies

Angelina Jolie has reportedly become disenchanted with the movie business and wants to walk away from it, according to a report appearing on a number of entertainment-related websites. It quotes Jolie as saying at a news conference (the location is not provided): "There's so much drama that comes with films -- bickering with studios, directors fighting for their script. There's too much stuff about what product we need to get out to make this much money on that weekend." Jolie said that she would prefer spending more time with her adopted son Maddox and pursuing her work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. "I guess I just don't care as much as I used to [about the movie business]," Jolie was also quoted as saying. "I'm happier doing other things. There's not a lot of stuff [involved in making movies] that is exciting or fulfilling."
Typical US Mother: "Remember what the MPAA says; Horrific, Deplorable violence is okay, as long as people don't say any naughty words."

Yeah, well, look at what you're making.  If you're so unfulfilled by it, find a good script and produce it yourself.

Stiller, Wilson and Jolie in The Mirror?
The Los Angeles Times reports that Ben Stiller has commissioned a new script titled The Mirror, a cannily-written comedy about Stiller, who awakens one day to find his mirror image passing himself off as the real star.

The Scott Smith script features Stiller's real-life wife (Christine Taylor) and family, pal Owen Wilson, agent Nick Stevens and Angelina Jolie as an irresistible sex goddess.

The film is about an actor who can't handle the notion that everyone, even his own parents, prefer his crafty mirror image to himself. "My initial inspiration came from a friend who was trying to become more authentic by stripping away her social persona, only to discover that the world wanted the more fake version of herself," said Smith.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Angelina Jolie Adopting Ethiopian Girl

Angelina Jolie, who has been romantically linked with her "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" co-star Brad Pitt, is adopting an orphaned Ethiopian baby girl.

Jolie visited the Horn of Africa nation last week to file her adoption request, accompanied by Pitt and her 3-year-old son, Maddox, whom she adopted in Cambodia, an official said Wednesday.

"The paperwork has gone through. Miss Angelina's request was accepted last week," Hadosh Halefom, head of the country's state-run adoption agency, told The Associated Press.

The child "is less than a year old," Hadosh said, refusing to elaborate. The actress filed her request through a private adoption agency.

"If people's paperwork is in order, it can take only two days to finalize everything," Hadosh said.

In a posting on People magazine's Web site, Jolie is quoted as saying the child's name is Zahara Marley Jolie and that she and Maddox are "very happy to have a new addition to our family."

The twice-divorced Jolie has often talked of adopting a second child.

For months, rumors have been circulating about the extent of her off-screen relationship with Pitt. Photos published in the July 11 issue of People show Jolie standing near her Buckinghamshire, England, estate while Pitt rides a dirt bike with Maddox. Other photos show Pitt, Jolie and Maddox at Luton Airport outside London.

Pitt and his wife, Jennifer Aniston, announced their separation in January, and Aniston filed for divorce in March, citing irreconcilable differences. Pitt, 41, has denied Jolie, 30, is the reason for the split and Jolie has said she's never had sex with Pitt.

Hadosh said Jolie had met the 10 conditions for adopting a child from Ethiopia.

"The two most important are economic capabilities and check with the police," Hadosh said. "Although she is a film star, she still has to meet the same requirements as everybody else."

Ethiopia, a country of 70 million, has more than 5 million orphans, their parents lost to famine, disease, war and AIDS a catastrophe the government has said is "tearing apart the social fabric" of the east African nation.

Caring for the orphans costs $115 million a month in a country whose annual health budget is only $140 million. Because of that, Ethiopia has gone out of its way to make adoption easier.

In 2003, a record 1,400 children were adopted from abroad, more than double the number in the previous year. The number of private adoption agencies in Addis Ababa, the capital, has doubled in the past year to 30.

Ethiopia has strict laws to thwart dubious adoption agents and to ensure that the orphan really exists, that the paperwork is not fraudulent and that no AIDS-infected children are being passed off as healthy.

Agencies charge fees of around $20,000 per child, a relatively inexpensive fee compared to many other countries.

Tomb Raider III Talks Begin
Jolie could return once more.

Paramount Pictures and SCi, the parent company of the game publisher that created the Tomb Raider games, are in talks for a third movie based on the adventures of Lara Croft, archaeologist extraordinaire. According to a report at The Business Online, negotiations for the next sequel have begun, and Angelina Jolie might be interested in playing Lara once more.

Jolie hinted at disappointment during the planning stages of Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life about the quality of the previous film, and neither of the two earned much praise from critics; nevertheless, the first two instalments have drummed up over $450 million at the box office. With the video game series still going strong, it's no wonder SCi would like to cash in another movie deal.

Pitt, Jolie May Join Atlas
Brangelina eyeing Rand adaptation.

Lionsgate intends to make a film based on Russian author Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, and market it worldwide. According to Variety, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are considering leading roles in the film. Jolie is known to be a huge fan of Rand and her novel.

At over 1,000 pages, Atlas Shrugged is one of the longest and most complex novels ever published. It's also a hugely popular and influential book, both for its story and for its ideological undertones.

For Rand, who grew up behind the Soviet Iron Curtain, the story was an illustration of her objectivism and the idea that only freedom can bring prosperity to society.

The story followed Dagny Taggart, an ambitious railroad executive attempting to keep her company afloat in spite of encroaching problems in the society around her. Along the way is the search for a mysterious figure named John Galt and a plot by a Destroyer to eliminate all the world's prime movers — its "Atlases."

Atlas Shrugged will be produced by Howard and Karen Baldwin and John Aglialoro.

Jolie cast as Tigress in animated "Kung Fu Panda"

In her first movie deal since going to Africa to give birth, Angelina Jolie will co-star as a tiger in the upcoming kids film "Kung Fu Panda" for DreamWorks Animation SKG, the studio said on Monday.

The Academy Award-winning actress will supply the voice of Tigress, a martial-arts master who helps train the title character, Po the Panda, played by Jack Black, in the ways of kung fu, DreamWorks said.

The all-star cast of the computer-animated comedy, due to hit theaters in May 2008, also will feature the voice talents of Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman and Ian McShane.

Jolie, 31, and Black last worked together voicing two of the lead characters, Lola and Lenny, in DreamWorks' 2004 hit underwater adventure "Shark Tale."

Weeks after returning to Los Angeles from the African nation of Namibia, where she gave birth to her first biological child, daughter Shiloh Nouvel, with off-screen paramour Brad Pitt, Jolie is letting little grass grow under her feet.

Coming off the success of last year's action hit "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," pairing her with Pitt, Jolie recently completed work on "The Good Shepherd," to be released this year, and is working on the Robert Zemeckis-directed "Beowulf," due out next year.

Jolie to play widow of journalist Daniel Pearl

Actress Angelina Jolie will star in a movie as the widow of murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, trade paper Daily Variety reported in its Thursday edition.

"A Mighty Heart," adapted from Mariane Pearl's memoir of the same name, will begin shooting within the next five weeks, the paper said. The book details Pearl's search for her husband, who was abducted and beheaded by militants in Pakistan in early 2002.

"I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book," Daily Variety quoted Pearl as saying. "I deeply admire her work and what she is committed to."

English filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, famed for such war-based films as "Welcome to Sarajevo" and "The Road to Guantanamo," will direct. Jolie's boyfriend, actor Brad Pitt, will serve as a producer of the project, which is set up at Paramount Vantage, the art-house arm of Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures.

Vadim Perelman to direct 'Atlas'
Jolie to star in Lionsgate's Ayn Rand adaptation
Source: Variety

Lionsgate has brought on Vadim Perelman to rewrite "Atlas Shrugged" and direct Angelina Jolie in the starring role.

While Lionsgate needs to get a final script before formally committing to a start date with Perelman at the helm, the move puts the company in a strong position for an early 2008 production start, just a shade over 50 years after Ayn Rand's famed novel was first published in 1957.

Pic will be produced by Howard and Karen Baldwin and Media Talent Group's Geyer Kosinski.

Perelman will work from a draft of the script penned by "Braveheart" scribe Randall Wallace, who managed to boil down the Rand manifesto of 1,100-plus pages into a 127-page script. The drama revolves around what happens when great industrialists and thinkers go on strike and the world grinds to a halt.

Wallace will remain involved, and in a recent meeting with Perelman, the pair traded Russian dialogue. Perelman was born in Kiev, while Wallace has picked up the language researching his Catherine the Great pic "The Mercenary"; Rand was born in Russia. Perelman has brought his own take that will be incorporated into Wallace's script.

Perelman's latest film, the Uma Thurman-Evan Rachel Wood starrer "In Bloom," premieres at the Toronto Film Festival. It's his first since his 2003 breakthrough, "House of Sand and Fog."

Jolie starts work in early fall on the Clint Eastwood-directed "The Changeling" for Universal, Imagine and Malpaso. She would like to follow with "Atlas Shrugged," long a passion project for her.

Jolie replaces Cruise in 'Salt'
Actress to star in Philip Noyce's spy thriller
Source:Variety

"Edwin A. Salt" is about to undergo a gender change.

Once expected to star Tom Cruise, the Columbia Pictures espionage thriller will be redrafted by screenwriter Kurt Wimmer as a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie. Philip Noyce remains attached as director and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash are producing.

Jolie is close to a deal to play the title character, a CIA officer who's accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence.

Cruise had long flirted with the project, but that ended recently. The well-regarded script had several male movie stars circling.

Jolie took a liking to it, prompting the studio's decision to rewrite it. Sources said the project won't require that much of an overhaul to suit her.

After Universal beefed up Jolie's role in "Wanted" and then marketed the action film squarely on Jolie's shoulders and watched it gross $132 million domestically, Jolie reestablished in the wake of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" that she is the rare female who is viable in an action genre that has been almost the exclusive domain of men.

"Edwin A. Salt" will undergo a title change, and if everything falls into place, the film shapes up as a return vehicle for Jolie, who recently gave birth to twins. Another candidate for her return is the Lionsgate drama "Atlas Shrugged," which has been adapted by Randall Wallace from the Ayn Rand novel.

Jolie, who also provided a lead voice in the DreamWorks Animation hit "Kung Fu Panda," drew strong notices at the Cannes Film Festival for her starring role in the Clint Eastwood-directed drama "The Changeling" for Imagine and Universal. That film opens in late October.
