Title: The longest trail of sh*t.
Post by: NEON MERCURY on March 02, 2004, 10:18:16 PM
..here a swell game we can all play ..pick one "'well know mainstream" actor and find the longest streak of "univerally" garbage films he/she was in
.......my choice is for john travolta..damn, and it s long trail of sh*t....
since face/off travolta has done leading roles in these sh*tty films...

mad city
primary colors
a civil action
generals' daughter
battlefield earth(that should count as 2 films)
lucky numbers
swordfish
domestic disturbance
basic

.as you can see that 9 (!) sh*tty   films...i bet noone can find a streeak that bad.........****b-movies don't count

if this has been done before..please insult me and redirect my dumb phucking ass..
thank you

okay, forgive me anyone who likes one of these movies.  i havent seen them all.  kevin costner after making the untouchables, bull durham, field of dreams, dances with wolves, robin hood, jfk and the bodyguard inside of 5 years.  almost all huge critical/commercial hits in 5 years!  followed them up with ...

the war
waterworld
tin cup
the postman
message in a bottle
for love of the game
13 days
3000 miles to graceland
dragonfly

thats 9.  do all of those count?  if not 3000 miles to graceland should count as two.

'd have to choose Nicolas Cage...though he's a great actor..he's done some bad shit....all in sequence too...

The Rock
Con Air
Face/Off

then he did some good movies....then he went back to some shit....

Gone in 60 Seconds
The Family Man
Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Windtalkers (i think it's shit, but i still like it...somewhat)
Title: yeah
Post by: El Duderino on March 02, 2004, 10:29:01 PM

Fucking eh'. Tin Cup is one of my favorite Costner movies and Costner is one of my favorite Hollywood actors right now. Also, The War is adaquete (at least Costner's performance is) while Thirteen Days is a very good film that seems only handicapped by the fact that books have detailed its story better.

P got it right, Stallone is the real victor for this category.

!!! First movie we both really like, GT!

(spoilers!?)

Y'know what makes that movie really great? Besides the fact that I was so into golf when I first watched it, and all my golf buddies love it, it was the perfect ending. As he took that swing and the music started to swell, I thought "oh man, another cheesy stupid ending", but then PLUNK in the water. And over. And over. If I were Paul  Schrader, and I wrote an essay on Tin Cup, I would say the ending got "transcendent". Hehe.

Definitely. I'm a slacker golfer myself, the kind of golfer who hasn't paid to golf in 3 years and just sneaks in or jumps the fence when the weather isn't yet dry enough for golf season but still adaquete enough to golf on. Tin Cup is a seasonal movie I watch at the end of every winter a few times to get myself pumped for golf in the spring. I've watched it 3 times in the last month and look forward to watching it again.

If you guys will allow his performance in Major League as a good one, we could do the trail for Tom Berenger.

And barring Bowfinger, for Eddie Murphy.

Martin Lawrence.  Everything he's been in except Do the Right Thing, which he and Giancarlo Esposito almost made unwatchable, too.

I could of swore he was in "Platoon" which I thought was really really great....but yea, other than that, he definitely makes the cut. I've never seen "Major League".

I cannot believe nobody has said Steven Seagal yet. Doesn't the guy make like 5  tv/straight to video movies a month now? It's a shame Arnold was mentioned before him, I mean Seagal is worse by far imo. At least you can laugh at Arnold's movies.

I thought the requirement was that the person had to have at least one good performance...

hahaha....that might be the worst b/c at least in  stallone flick you kind of know what to expect...but cuba who supposed to  have this great talent .....falls flat bad...and cuba has worked w/ much  more stellar talent so its supposed to be expected that he shouldn't be in such sh*tty films......

i don't  know if cuba's  trail of sh*t will be beat.....and ALOT of those films should count as 2

hehe. i saw this movie in the theaters and i vomited 10 minutes to the end. that sucked... i don't think i ever finished it.

i did have to go see jingle all the way twice in the theaters though. man... that movie is awesome. think of the streak of movies with the neglectful fathers that learn a lesson in the end that all came out in the 90's when the baby boomers had 10 year old kids. jatw, the santa clause, liar liar, hook, etc etc.

bringing down tha house brought it into the next millenium though.

How about Mark Wahlberg?  After Boogie Nights, he has made some truly terrible films (except when he works with David O. Russell).

Dustin Hoffman post-Rain Man -- Family Business, Billy Bathgate, Hook, American Buffalo, Outbreak, etc.  However he was good in Wag the Dog and I Heart Huckabees.

I never thought about De Niro, but seeing that list makes me realize he hasn't done anything good in a while.  Believe it or not, the only decent film on that list is Flawless.  De Niro gives a good performance, and Phil Seymour Hoffman is great as usual.

Like Donnie Smith's love, I don't know where to put this.  Feel free to move it as needed.  I was revisiting the whole James Frey controversy after having read a Time article about Jonathan Franzen, and I came across this: HBO Working on a Show About Porn Business (http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/internet_thorn_in_porn_world_54TrISW6vpH14ctWEwQkBK)
