It's unfortunate that they had to isolate "cock" like that, especially with the knife heading for the O.

The non US version looks class.

Someone's been taking marketing tips from Bali...
He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

More Important French Films Will Be Digitally Restored
via blu-ray.com

Thanks to a new initiative from state film organization CNC, more classic and important French films will be digitally restored. Some of the films already approved for restoration are Jacques Tati's Jour de Fete, Mon Oncle and Playtime, Rene Vautier's Avoir 20 Ans Dans Les Aures, Agnes Varda's Jacquot de Nantes and Jacques Demy's Le Joli Mai and Peau d'Ane.

Claude Lelouch, Alain Resnais and Jean-Luc Godard's documentary feature Far From Vietnam will also be restored, as well as three short films.

The CNC committee, which selects the films that will be restored each year, is headed by Gilles Jacob, the current president of the Cannes Film Festival.

Warner Archive now has a weekly podcast

George Feltenstein hosts the Warner Archive Collection podcast, bringing you vintage radio dramas, interviews and weekly round-table discussions culled from the rich film and television history contained within the Warner Bros. vaults.

They weren't restored when Criterion released them?

Criterion probably cleaned those releases up just for DVD and Blu-Ray, without actually restoring the original film elements.

Jacques Deray's long-unavailable The Outside Man (1973) has just been released via MGM MOD. This film sort of fuses the spirit of French crime movies with the landscape of Los Angeles. Though its plot isn't amazing, for me the cinematography elevates the movie and makes it a bit of a stylistic/thematic blood brother to something like Point Blank.

Jean-Louis Trintignant plays a french contract assassin hired by a Los Angeles crime family, ostensibly to perform a hit on some other mafia target. But simultaneously, as he arrives to do his job, a slaying occurs inside the household of the mob boss supposed to employ him. Suspicion is deliberately cast against Trintignant from within that very family. From that moment on, Trintignant is on the run from the police, and the minions of two different mob families. What makes his escape hazardous is that the real murderer shares all the information known about him to aid in his capture and death.
