What is the most shocking or surprising ending you have ever seen? I was really shocked by at the ending of "The Sixth Sense", "The Others", "Jacob's Ladder", "The Usual Suspects", "Vanilla Sky", "Mulholland Drive" and many others.
Se7en. Left me cold.
My all-time favorite... Fight Club
"Audition"
"Man Bites Dog"
"AI"... shocking because of how completely wrong the ending was.

I wouldn't really call the 'realization' the ending; more like the beginning of the third act. :yabbse-undecided:
Unless you meant the penis shot.
Hands down: "Carrie"
Also:
"Planet Of The Apes (1968)"
Easily Psycho.

"Walls of Jericho" and the line, "you just met me at a very strange time in my life" was a pretty good scene to me. I don't know if that's what he's talking about, though. But you're right, when most people mention
Fight Club and "ending," they're really referring to the start of the third act, which is odd.

It's all about Arlington Road.
Man, "Arlington Road" had a really shocking ending but I also hated it. The movie was good up until that point.
i recently bought tyhe arlington road dvd in memories of a time long a go where i saw it and liked it. when i saw it again i hated it. the dialogue and the acting was the lamest parts.

It isn't your typical good vs. evil ending now is it?
Dancer in the Dark. Although it was expected, it was very shocking

Good one. Agreed!
I like Pi's ending. I never would've seen what he did comgin from a mile away.
The Blair Witch Project.
I thought the ending to Blow was completely unfair toward Jung's daughter. After a couple of hours feeling sympathetic towards a man who clearly made his own choices in life, then adding a postscript about how his daughter has never visited him in prison was a low blow and not up for public scrutiny.
Se7en
Requiem for a Dream
Blair Witch Project
Bob Roberts (a great fucking film, in case you wanna check it out)
Empire Strikes Back.
THE GAME
ROSEMARY'S BABY
THE PIANO TEACHER

I couldn't stop talking about Hannibal's ending when it first came out. I really liked 'Arlington Road's ending. Real uncoventional, ends the worst way possible for Bridges and family.

Like I said. I think it is the best 'shock' ending. All the other endings were conventional, and surprising to be sure. However, a good many of the other endings didn't "break the mold". Arlington Road breaks a pretty big mold for how a film like that is 'supposed' to end. The commentary I believe has a little bit about how the studio was trying to get the director to change his ending. He wouldn't do it.
As far as regular old 'good endings' go, I'll go with "Shawshank". I can watch that movie a hundred times.
"I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope."
Get busy living or get busy dying. Damn right. ;)

Every time I hear Morgan say that line, I get chills. And I well up for a sec....ahhhhh
In the Company of Men
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover
I'm hoping that this new movie that just came out called "Swimming Pool" will have a surprise ending. It' suppose to be very psychological and apparently the ending is very diabolical, shocking and violent. I guess we'll see.
braaazil.

HAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA!
I would say the 2 most influential endings of recent times were Jacob's Ladder and Angel Heart. Late 80s-early 90s. Those set up the paradigm of what was to come.
Quote from: filmcriticOK
It's not?
SHALLOW GRAVE
No, I thought it was surprising. I agree with what you're saying. :-D
Don't placate me, fluffer.
Hey, hey, calm down. :yabbse-undecided:
Okay, but do you also agree that Gus Van Sant's was a far superior effort?
No, I do not agree with that. I don't know what the point was of the remake. First of all, it's not in beautiful black and white. That alone doesn't make it near as scary or as good.
It's GLORIOUS Technicolor!!
Alrighty. Opinions are just like belly-buttons, everybody has one.
Are you a chick?
What does that have anything to do with it :?:
answer the :?:
I think we're getting a little too personal on this thread. Anyways...

please explain to me what a feminine arguing style is. id like to know.
was it because filmcritic said belly-buttons instead of assholes?
critics are like assholes. everyone is one
Back to the subject!
Most shocking ending.....hmm....that would be Star Wars....The "I'm your father, Luke"-part! I didn't see that one comin'!........
i already said that, ya damn ignorant french bastard!
I'd have to go with "Momento"-sure, you knew it was probably going to happen that way, but the flashbacks to what the others did when they left him made up for it . . . .(//)
I just realized I can't read anything in this thread until I watch like every movie ever. Carry on.
