I was saving up to buy a xl-1, however after viewing the sheer great quality of the panasonic ag-dvx camera's I have decided to change my mind and buy one of this mother fucko's. Anyway, I've searched the internet and the cheapest I've found it has been for about $2,800, anywhere cheaper? And realiable?

edit: I found two places

Those who say that the totalitarian state of the Soviet Union was not "real" Marxism also cannot admit that one simple feature of Marxism makes totalitarianism necessary:  the rejection of civil society. Since civil society is the sphere of private activity, its abolition and replacement by political society means that nothing private remains. That is already the essence of totalitarianism; and the moralistic practice of the trendy Left, which regards everything as political and sometimes reveals its hostility to free speech, does nothing to contradict this implication.

When those who hated capital and consumption (and Jews) in the 20th century murdered some hundred million people, and the poster children for the struggle against international capitalism and America are now fanatical Islamic terrorists, this puts recent enthusiasts in an awkward position. Most of them are too dense and shameless to appreciate it, and far too many are taken in by the moralistic and paternalistic rhetoric of the Left.

You can film it with the Panasonic. Just don't put it online...

*bump*

So I'm looking into buying the Panasonic.  Those two sites GDIDM mentioned don't seem too reputable (one was down last I checked, one's gotten bad reviews).  So does anyone have any experience with either, or any other good places with a reasonable price?  Cheapest I've seen for it was just a pip under $2000, but that sounded too good to be true and probably was.

Here's most of the places I've looked so far, but the ones with the best prices always seem to have such bad reviews.

2129.99 - http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-1598293181133/panag.html
2679 - http://www.expresscameras.com/cart/prodetails.asp?prodid=58636&start=1 - free case, tripod, cleaning system -- heard bad reviews about this place, so probably not worth it.

I really don't want to spend $3500 if I don't have to, especially considering all the other stuff I've gotta get, too.  So GDIDM (and anyone else), if you did buy a camera, where'd you get it, how much, and how was the service?

Canon has the XL2 coming out in August which has 24p, true 16x9, interchangeable lenses, cine look, etc...little more money (I think it will retail for $5000) but sounds better and probably worth the $.

Late August to mid-September?  $5K?  Pass.  Thanks, though.  Sucks that whatever technology you're interested in and maybe actually buy, a year later it's obsolete.

I bought one a couple months ago...

Thing is that you're not gonna get it less than $3000 unless you buy it used or grey market.

What I've also discovered is that NO MATTER where you buy it, that place will have bad reviews.  Everyone makes mistakes and no one posts a review unless they have something to bitch about.

I figured out the deal with the cheaper (3000 - 3300) places... accessories... that's what they're selling the cameras for less for...so they can sell you accessories.

My experience/experiment went like this... after all my research and saving up, I decided to order it from PC&PLasma... I placed the order online and they asked that I call to "Confirm the order", so I did... I knew from reading reviews and what not that this is where they were going to try and sell me a whole bunch of shit i didn't need... so I was prepared... I called them, I stayed firm, I said no to all the extra crap, then they told me the camera should be at my place within a couple of days.  I hung up happy... then, a couple of days pass and no camera... I log onto the site and it says that my order (that was garanteed in stock) was on backorder for 3 weeks to 2 months.

I started to figure out the game... I called a similar NY seller that had it for just a little bit more.  I asked them if they had the camera in stock and he said "I can check on that for you, let me ask you first if you need any accesories..." blah blah blah.  I told him that I didn't.  He put me on hold to "go check on the status" (I was on hold for about half a second) and he came back and said "I'm sorry, we don't have any of those in stock right now".

So, I called PC&Plasma back and ordered a filter kit... that's all... I needed some filters anyway and all of a sudden, it was ready to go out the next day and I got it in three days.

anyway... sorry to be so long winded about it all.  That's my camera story.
