Title: The Kings of Leon
Post by: bonanzataz on April 23, 2003, 06:24:45 PM
:yabbse-thumbup:

saw them live with Adam Green (from the Moldy Peaches. funniest guy out there right now, go listen to "mozarella swastikas," very fucked up) and Ben Kweller (who is emo and I don't like emo. not my cup of tea, i left early when he came on). They put on the best performance of all three. They look like the Ramones with moustaches, and that's exactly the kind of music they perform. Kind of 70s punk mentality with a dash of southern rock. unfortunately, they only have 5 songs out now. but they're five great songs. give them a listen.

I love The Kings Of Leon.  And I actually met Adam Green when he opened for The Strokes last year, (awesome guy), his new record comes out this July.  I totally agree though, listen to The Kings Of Leon.

Yeah, what happened to that idea? Wasn't this board supposed to include the "Karma" rating system that Greg's board had at the very beginning?

no, that was stupit.

anyway ben kweller isn't emo.. he's sugary chick pop at worst, and decent pop rock at best.

what was Karma? I remember it being on one of the boards, i think it was Sphinx's.

anyway, P, i'm sorry i labelled it emo. there just isn't a word for a genre that classifies the sugary chick pop, and people throw around the words punk and emo gratuitously. we need to think of a word, and quick.

karma was on the c&c boards initially, and then greg took it off. i reinstated it on the ptamb until it was destroyed

I'm seeing KOL in exactly one week, yayy!!

I think "Youth and Young Manhood" is a really cool album. Does anyone think it's full of sexual innuendos, or is it just my dirty mind? See "Holy Roller Novacane".

Youth and young manhood is the album I enjoy of them. We've been playing the new one over the loud speakers at work and I don't dig it. Happy alone and Holy Roller Novacaine are standout tracks from youth and young manhood, two of my favorite tracks but my absolute favorite is Trani, it just rules and reminds me of a mixture of late 60's psych rock and mid 70's southern rock, it's just a fantastic song. They're really good.

their lyrics suck, here's what i remember not liking from the last album:

TAPER JEAN GIRL

Aha shake taper jean girl with a motel face
Aha shake bury your eyes in a secret place
Aha shake black as night on a Sunday

Cunts watch their bodies, no room for make up
I think he's tasted, tasted the watcher

Heartbreak knockin' 'em down like the 7th grade
Heartbreak, cigarettes and songs, with a winter's chafe
Heartbreak keep like my daughter and a run away

Aha shake tapered jean girl kills me

i dont really like it but i just gave it another listen the other day.  i think their first album is much better.  the remarkable thing about the new one is that its almost completely devoid of choruses.  (for good, and for bad).  also: it sounds in many songs like instrumentally they were very influenced by touring with the strokes.  slow night so long, king of hte rodeo, the bucket, etc.  anyways, its okay.  i think his voice is kind of obnoxious and probably moreso on this album than the last one.  the last album had more variety and seemed more natural.  (like the piano on talihina sky), but actually every song on that one is pretty good.  favorites are california waiting and red morning light probably.  i dont think anything on the new cd really rivals that stuff.  anyway, the lyrics to Soft are gross and i always have to skip Milk cause his voice is like chalkboard scraping on that song.

i'll have to check out their earlier stuff, because i really like this album and no one else does it seems. I love his voice on this album, but I have nothing to compare it to. And what's gross about Soft? as a side note, I never realized how dirty the lyrics were. Weird, the music's so happy.

I'm passed out in your garden
i'm in I can't get off so soft
I'd pop myself in your body
I'd come all over your party, but i'm soft

ewwwww......

yeah, get the first album.  you'll like it better.

I thought it was "I'd come into your party, but i'm soft" that's far less offensive.
