Title: hacked-xax?
Post by: tpfkabi on December 11, 2008, 10:11:55 PM
At work we recently got new computers.

Ever since, any time I open up an e-mail notification from Xixax I'm automatically redirected and some program tries to download to my computer.

whahappened?

Yeah, unfortunately we've been plagued with a lot of spam accounts forcing us unable to approve new members due to some security issue.

Somtimes I work at another office, so when I'm there and want to check the site, it redirects me to a porn site...

I've been getting a virus-protection scan pop-up every time I click on a link to xixax, but only from certain computers. It works fine, though, if I just type in the address.

It's been happening for a while, but I never mentioned it 'cause I figured it was something with the comps at school.

Yeah, this is what it does (and seems to automatically try to download it), but only after we got the new computer at work.

The other computer at work was fine, and at home it doesn't do it either.

I checked with our tech support and there's what they had to say:

I don't think this has anything to do with the recent security issue.  None of the e-mail notifications that I've gotten contain any hidden links to other sites and the settings in the admin panel looked fine to me when I checked.  Are any of you admins having a problem like this?

I think it has more to do with either a virus or something installed on that particular computer rather than something coming from this site or its email notifications...

.. and the fact that he's not seeing it on other computers at the same work site seems to be a confirmation.

Since work computers are property of the company, their IT department could have any number of blocks on both the computers or their network's access to the internet.  Even if one site with certain words is accessible at work, it doesn't mean that the next will be.  Someone might be tracking worker's internet usage and decided to block it because they didn't like it for whatever reason or because too much time was spent on a specific site instead of working. Or it could also have something to do with the triple x's in the URL that caused that message.

This too sounds like something that is going on with that particular computer.

that's probably it then.

i guess the newer computers at work have a newer version of an internet blocker maybe?

For what it's worth, I work at a web design company, and have no problem accessing the site. But we have a pretty open policy as to what we can use/share/look at here.

Where's there an example of this?

in kal's post about moving from Miami to LA, "cars" and "phoenix" were sponsored links-- green text underlined twice

edit: above this post in this thread, "office" (in the fernando quote) and also "school" at the end of perenium falcon's post.

Strange. Anyone else getting that, because I don't?

No. That is weird though and it sucks. At least we should get paid for that.

i'm pretty sure it's a virus that has nothing to do with xixax.

do you get those hyperlinks on other sites?

If anyone else is still having the problem, go to www.xixax.com directly and see if that changes things.

After I tried that it began letting me open e-mails to the site and works fine.
