Title: Your username
Post by: Jack Sparrow on May 12, 2003, 10:37:53 AM
Why did you pick it and what the heck does it mean?

Mogwai: the furry creature in Gremlins or a noisy band from Scotland.

Although I'm not sure if the furry creature is called Mogwai before or after being exposed to daylight or water on it's back, whatever.

Your turn, shoot!

Hitchcock: It might be a Scottish name, taken from a story about two men in a train. One man says, "What's that package up there in the baggage rack?" And the other answers, "Oh, that's a MacGuffin." The first one asks, "What's a MacGuffin?" "Well," the other man says, "it's an apparatus for trapping lions in the Scottish Highlands." The first man says, "But there are no lions in the Scottish Highlands," and the other one answers, "Well then, that's no MacGuffin!" So you see that a MacGuffin is actually nothing at all.

i chose mine not because its my favorite movie (as some tend to believe) but because i think i resemble cecil in real life (well obviously im not a real lunatic who would die for film... or would i?)

after seeing the movie with my dad and my brother they said "holy shit, that crazy guys just like erik!" (being that my real name is erik. perhaps one day, my last name will be revealed)

Chris (or Kris) Kelvin is the name of the main character in Tarkovsky's great film Solaris. He's one of those who are in constant search for something, haunted by memories, driven by an impulse to find answers, lost happiness and ephemeral beauty. Well, that's my personal interpretation. Nevertheless, I have always been fascinated by the film and the character.

In real life (if there is such a thing...), my name is Frédéric

and I still am... that  is until I hear someone use it out loud, then it will be ruined for me.

It's like Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter books... always thought it was Her-me-own... then I heard from a friend that it was Her-my-oh-knee... had to read all the books over again.

well, Pic (which alone, is still Pick), I'm not going back and reading your posts again... sorry.

Foucault's Pendulum - A book originally optioned by Stanley Kubrick to film, is about three book editors bored with reading countless manuscripts of theories by every single fanatic on "how they see the world as it really is", decide to have some fun and rewrite history as if it was seen by a fanatic and the more they dig into the world of a fanatic, the more they begin to believe the theories. The great thing about the book (seeing it being made into a film is unbelievable) is that it goes so far into thought on different theories of the world and relating it to history that the results are amazing to read given the extensive knowledge of the author and his pure confidence in writing this novel.

BonBon, the girl in your new avatar is the creapiest person ever.

I thought my old one with the woman in her Sunday bests buying red meat was slightly creepier.

I never did. It seemed more artificial but lit in a happy and cheery way. This, on the other hand, is black and white and poorly lit with a 50s style girl who looks more real and the shocker, she has braces (or I imagine she does). Also, the fact she is holding a camera reminds me of the old 50s thriller Peeping Tom but I imagine a girl in place now doing the killing.

mine's pretty stupid:
I saw a guy who'se nickname was wireframe and I thought that was cool. I have a picture on a rust-coloured stained glass frame and that's an awesome frame. I thought rust on glass looks cool.
Also, I was listening a lot to beth gibbons and rustinman's out of season, that's a kick ass record.

gargoyle?
squints is a nickname i've had for the past 4 years..its so prevalent that girls have screamed it out during sex...a lot of people i've met in college don't even know my real name, which i guess is a good thing considerin' all the dope slangin' i've been doin (not really)
it came from my constant squint-eyed look derived from years of marijuana abuse (abuse?)
but i just tell my parents its a cute reference from the sandlot...i want to name my first child Hunter Squints Thompson but my girlfriend doesn't seem too keen on the idea
nearsighted gargoyle? i don't like it..how about: Twat that Smells Like a Baby's Coffin?
just an idea

Oh that's awesome man, I wish I could have seen it.
The casting sounds great.
How was the acting, if you don't mind me asking?

I just re-read it with those actors in mind and I can imagine Michael Stuhlbarg, Zeljko Ivanek and even Goldblum being perfect for their roles.
I only know Billy Crudup from Public Enemies but I hope he did well as Katurian.

As for Pinter, I haven't read any of his work but I'll have a look at it sometime.

It was several years ago, but from what I remember everyone was pretty good. Goldblum was just Goldblum. If you haven't read any Pinter before, I'd recommend starting out with The Dumb Waiter, although my personal favorite is The Birthday Party.
