Post by: bonanzataz on September 10, 2003, 08:40:14 PM
the man is a god. Hunky Dorey is the best album ever made. he produced lou reed's transformer and his music is unlike anything anybody has ever made. he cannot be imitated. can you say anything bad about the guy? his eighties stuff is great too! i haven't heard any of the new stuff really, but i'm sure it's listenable.

A musical innovator.

It is, especially "Outside" and "Heathen". "Earthling" isn't too bad either.

you know what I mean

he is a trend hopping phoney but the mother fucker has talent and or is reallly smart, he surrounds himself with the best people when he wants to change his style

i love him i love his old stuff and his new stuff and his weird shit

but i will admit he would take pictures with iggy and lou reed and produce albums for them to further his rep

and then flirt with nazi'isums to give him a dangeriouce edge ( but unlike hitlers bitch who just died he never helped kill anyone or film children about be gassed)

he said he like cock when it was trendy and then in the 80's when it wasnt trendy he said it was all really a sham that he and angie his wife cooked up

and what can one say about the 80's , his package in labriyth ..........ohhh lord

then the drum and bass era which was a joke really but under that trendy pruduction lie great songs " dead man walking"

i liked hours , because i love young americans

every one list their fav album mine is hunky dory and young americans but i can still get wit low " always crashing in the same car" scarey shit

David Bowie was my hero when I was in first grade, because I loved Labyrinth and thought it was so cool that he and I shared the same name. I didn't get into his music (other than the Labyrinth record) until I was older. He rocks my world.

David Bowie Says He's Experimenting Again

TOKYO - David Bowie, pushing 60, says he's headed for another experimental phase. Speaking in Tokyo to start this week's Japan leg of his world tour, Bowie said he's stripping down his act to try out some new approaches.

"I'm heading for another period of experimentation," he said. "(I'm at) a time when I'm collecting myself before I break all my own rules."

The iconic artist has gone through various personas during his more than three-decade career - Ziggy Stardust, the Thin White Duke, Philadelphia soul man, avant-garde rocker.

Now, he said, he wants to focus on his songwriting and singing.

"It's probably the simplest tour that I've ever done," he said, dressed in gray cargo pants and a hooded sweat shirt. "This is very stripped down. It's really not working with theatrics at all."

The tour is Bowie's first world tour since 1995. He released his latest album, Reality, last September.

The 57-year-old said it's harder to get his music heard these days, especially on radio stations, because of his age. But he added that he enjoys seeing life get simpler as he ages.

"I was quite scared of getting old in my 40s," he said. "But as I approach 60 ... you learn to embrace getting older."

I saw this tour in Seattle a couple of months ago, in a small (for Bowie) venue; he's coming back to the arena in a couple of months, but one extravagantly high-priced ticket is enough for me, per year.

It was a good show and, yes, very stripped-down. An excellent, excellent set list, where even the clunkers from the newer albums sounded interesting. He did a great many Low tracks, "Ziggy Stardust," "Suffragette City," etc. Bonus surprises: "All the Young Dudes" and a cover of "White Light/White Heat."

Still going through it, sort of.

I got into Bowie about 4 years ago or so and I can't get through a day without listening to him. Not everything else sounds like shit but sometimes, when I put on something else other than Bowie, I find myself turning that off and putting Bowie back on because nothing else satisfies.

He is awsome... love him... He will have a concert in Miami next month and I already have backstage passes... woohoo!

I went once to see him already in Argentina a few years ago. His show in Argentina was supposed to last 1 and a half hours... it was all about the Earthling album, and when he finished and came back to make a final song, he ended up playing like 9 other songs, all oldies... it was AMAZING!

David Bowie: Take My Songs

London (AP) - David Bowie has invited fans to bootleg his music - and he's offering prizes for the most creative theft.

The musician's Web site urges fans to mix classic Bowie songs with material from his latest album, "Reality," to create a "mash-up" - a track that uses vocals from one song superimposed over the backing tracks of another.

Developments in music software has made the technique long employed by record producers easily accessible to thousands of "bedroom DJs" - a fact that has alarmed record companies battling for control of Internet music distribution.

But Bowie, 57, was quoted as saying in Monday's editions of The Times of London newspaper that mash-ups were "a great appropriation idea waiting to happen."

"Being a hybrid maker off and on over the years, I'm very comfortable with the idea and have been the subject of quite a few pretty good mash-ups myself," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

The music software needed for the task can be downloaded from Bowie's Web site (http://www.davidbowie.com/), along with tracks from his new album.

Following the end of the contest on May 17, Bowie will choose the winning track, and it will be released as an MP3 single. The winner will also get a new car.

The mash-up technique gained prominence with "The Gray Album," a blend of The Beatles and Jay-Z by an American DJ known as Danger Mouse.

A reported 1 million copies were downloaded from the Internet before it was blocked by record company EMI in February.

Heart surgery sidelines Bowie
Source: Los Angeles Times

David Bowie is recovering from emergency heart surgery performed last month in Germany, his spokesman said.

The 57-year-old British pop star was found to have an acutely blocked artery that required angioplasty, publicist Mitch Scheider said in a statement. A pinched nerve was initially cited as the cause of shoulder pain that forced Bowie to shorten a June 23 performance in Prague and eventually cancel the remainder of a European tour.

Bowie sought treatment after performaning at a festival in the German town of Scheesel on June 25. He finally left the clinic this week and is convalescing with his family, according to the statement.

Bowie opened his 2004 tour here in Atlanta, at an open-air outdoor venue, and it was just phenomenal.  I've seen Bowie in concert 5 times in my life, and I swear this last show (in May) was the best ever.

"Reality" was a good (not great) album.  I liked "Heathen" a LOT, and "I'm Afraid Of Americans" is one of my favorite new Bowie songs.  He hit a peak in the 70s that he'll never hit again, but for that matter, it's unlikely anyone ELSE will hit it either...  he's done some genius music in his life, and I think it's cool as hell that he hasn't become an embarrassment in his old age, but in fact can still put on a great show.

yes.  here is a good starter.  get Hunky Dory, (which is  a remaster) and get Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane which are both 2 disc special editions (just like a dvd!).  if you want a good compilation of hits, get The Best of Bowie 1969-1974.  those albums are so rocking it hurts.  (i'm currently in a huge bowie phase as well).

Sorry. I know it's been ten years, but I just wanted to point out that this^ was the inspiration for Tarantino's "I'd fuck Elvis" line in 'My Best Friends Birthday' and 'True Romance.' Him and his friend whose favorite singer was Bowie would talk about if they'd fuck their idols if they had the chance

Clarence: I always said, if I had to fuck a guy... I mean had to, if my life depended on it... I'd fuck Elvis.

I read a Tarantino book.

And I love David Bowie, Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars is my favorite album of his and I think it always will be.

and yeah.. I probably would with Jack White if I had to..
