Here's some off-beat new musical releases some of you folks might enjoy.

The Album Leaf- Opened for Sigur Ros a few times and are very mellow. Excellent writing music or late night weariness. I like it, and I believe the album is still streaming here- http://www.albumleaf.com/

Mark Lanegan- Former Screaming Trees singer and had a brief stint with Queens of the Stone Ager in case you didn't know, this is pretty good, PJ Harvey sitting in on a few tracks and really only two songs i didn't enjoy, but it's streaming here- some dutch site- http://www.vpro.nl/3voor12/luisterpaal/luisterpaalalbum.shtml?10617791+18614877

King Kahn & The Shrines- It's simple, if you dig old school soul, listen to this. Here a few songs at his site. http://www.hazelwood.de/kingkhan/index.php

Okay rap fans (P- please listen)- keep your eyes peeled for this, out September 7th I think from the Def Jux label, ROB SONIC the album "TELICATESSEN".  Man it's good, and unique.  Futuristic sound and a fresh flow, also in the group Sonic Sum, but that's another thread. Anyway this album is good. Trying to find some samples, I'll update if i do- but read more here-

Actually go here, he had a track on the last Def Jux Comp- Listen to DSYLEXIA here- http://www.tunes.co.uk/tunes/featured/8350.html

sorry for the big pics, just wanted to share. Overall decent year for music, obviously some big releases, and many to come. Tom Waits soon, New Guided By Voices is excellent, and the new Black Keys is perfect. If this sort of thread is not appropriate, I won't do it again, just trying to spread the wealth. Take it easy all.

Sorry one more-

The Concretes- I like it. Listen here- http://www.lickingfingers.com/

Anyone hear Rogue Wave yet? www.roguewavemusic.com is their site, I think. I saw them at the Shins concert and they had a nice sound. subpop's website has a song for d/l, "endless shovel."
We often went to the cinema, the screen would light up and we would tremble, but also, increasingly often, Madeleine and I were disappointed. The images had dated, they jittered, and Marilyn Monroe had gotten terribly old. We were sad, this wasn't the film we had dreamed of, this wasn't the total film that we all carried around inside us, this film that we would have wanted to make, or, more secretly, no doubt, that we would have wanted to live.

takagi masakatsu's new cd+dvd release 'coieda' is very impressive; anyone who enjoys abstract melodic electronic music should listen. also included is several videos by masakatsu which are equally interesting.

If you like Tom Waits and Aimee Mann....try out Sam Phillips' A Boot And A Shoe. I just saw her live the other night and she is AMAZING, and so is this CD.

And if you're feeling really adventurous, check out Joanna Newsom's The Milk-Eyed Mender.

I love this LP... I bought it last month and I'm in love with it's whimsical feeling and hearing the harp in such a way.  She's playing in Des Moines next Friday and I'm going to see her... I'm very excited.   I'm making my friends act excited too  :-D

I've actually been listening to a lot of Joanna Newsom, specifically Yarn and Glue and Walnut Whales. Her harping is amazing, I absolutely love it, but to love it I must first get over her scathing voice. It's a little too much at times, but I love her nonetheless.

Haha, thanks. Man I'm really trying, I've been racing to get so much music lately. I feel like I'm years behind. For instance, Sigur Ros, Rufus Wainwright, Broken Social Scene, Mogwai, and Iron and Wine have only recently caught my attention, but I fucking love all of them. Thank god I have a bunch of musically-sound friends.

Now do I have anything to recommend...hmmm. I'm not a fan, but I have a friend who adores Sufjan Stevens. I don't know if he would qualify as "new music" for you folks. Also, Micah P. Hinson is great, his cd's an import so it's expensive.

SO DO I.   :yabbse-thumbup:

"A Sun Came" is actually an older one of his (maybe his first?).  I'd recommend "Greetings From Michigan" to someone checking his music out for the first time, and last year's "Seven Swans" is utterly amazing.

Here's a cool interview with him from 2004:
