Post by: MacGuffin on June 18, 2003, 01:59:40 PM
Anybody else excited about their new album coming out July 22nd?

Heard the new single, "Just Because (http://www.janesaddiction.com/)," and I can't wait to hear the rest. "Nothing's Shocking" is one of my favorite albums.

I always really liked what they were trying to do, but I never really liked most of their music... Same with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Some songs all right, but nothing ever excited me.

Picked it up today. This album is so good. They picked up right where they left off. It's as if they never went on an 'extended hiatus'.

They were awesome back in the day, but I don't know about them now... the single is OK, but with a cover like that, they might be trying to sell out so their other songs might suck... i've been burned way to many times buying an album that the single was great, but the album sucked.

jane's addiction to split?

the long-term future of jane's addiction appears uncertain this afternoon (june 23) with rumours abound they're to split.

the band, who reformed in 2002 after ten years apart and released 'strays', an album of new material in 2003, have been on a hiatus for much of this year.

a statement has been published online said to be from all the band members, apart from singer perry farrell saying that their "volatile combination" means they will be no more.

the statement on navarro's website reads: "we know we can't avoid this anymore so we will give it our best shot. what's the deal? the deal is that it simply didn't work out. sometimes things just don't work out. in all honesty, we have broken up and rejoined roughly four times over the years. perhaps that should shed some light as to where we are now. we really don't know. we do know that we really gave it everything we had this time and we actually made a really great record after so many years of silence.

"that was definitely a great thing and we are all proud of it. we were able to do a lot of shows and travel and see the world again. we had some amazing times. why didn't it work out? so many reasons. some of them over 15 years old, some of them new and none of them worth mentioning. maybe we are just a volatile combination. maybe that is why we were so great. the bottom line is that we are all extremely creative and motivated people and i know we will all continue to create and work on many different projects.

"after 20 years, just like in any relationship, you have your highs and lows and some amazing memories that can never be replaced. we were able to create great music together, and for that... we feel blessed. but sometimes relationships don't work, no matter how much time or energy you put into them... and at that point... you realise it is healthier to go your separate ways than to keep trying to recreate the magic of the early years. sometimes people grow apart in the relationship, it is nobody's fault really... just a fact of life... an inevitable creative dissolution. sometimes the best creative relationships are the most combustible and they aren't meant to last forever.

"we know this doesn't answer all of your questions, but hopefully it answers some of them. we would personally like to say, 'thank you' for all of the love and support you have shown us over the years, we greatly appreciate it and we love you."

a uk spokesperson for the band was unable to confirm the authenticity of the posting.

jane's are considered one of the most influential bands of the last 20 years. their albums 'nothing's shocking' and 'ritual de lo habitual' are both modern classics, and a noted influence on bands like red hot chili peppers and the music.

Dave Navarro works on porn movie

Former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has directed his first adult movie.

The guitarist has teamed up with company Teravision to make 'Broken', which is due to be released in September.

The film stars actress Sasha Grey as "a woman torn apart by the duality of control and powerlessness in her life".

The movie is the first in a planned series of celebrity-directed porn movies from Teravision.

Navarro conceptualised the movie with producer Sancho.

The star said: "I have always had an interest in film making and the visual arts, so when Teravision approached me about directing a film, it felt like a natural partnership.

"I have many friends in the adult entertainment industry, so I figured... what a great opportunity to work on a feature length project with people I already know.

"I have missed the sense of danger and edge in the music business for many years, and working on this project reminded me a lot of the old days when we were just a bunch of kids in Hollywood playing the clubs, getting our hands dirty and raising some eyebrows along the way."

Navarro appears in the movie as himself, directing the action.

He said: "What happens is, the film breaks fantasy and goes back into reality and you're actually on the set, so my interaction is mainly me giving Sasha direction. You might see me walk up to her and direct her where to go - when you see me interact in the film, it's as a director.

Navarro added: "What's most exciting about the opportunity was to literally get behind the camera and work in the direction field. If anything, there's definitely an artistic flair and sensibility throughout the picture that might at times appear self-indulgent - I hope so!"

The rocker is personally supervising the soundtrack, although he is not contributing any of his own music to the project.

He told AVN: "We're getting a great hard rock band with a female vocalist to score the movie. They do everything from super-heavy, hard metal to really ambient, hypnotic trance-electronic music.

"They cover a wide spectrum of emotion, much as the film does from scene to scene. Within the theme of female empowerment, to have a female vocalist fronting such a heavy band is appropriate."
