Quite a few of my pics have already been mentioned here.  However, i would be remiss to not encourage at least a viewing of:

Sleepless

He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

Persona
A film that not only has stood on its own for 40 years, but like Citizen Kane is responsible for so many films that followed.

The Big Lebowski
Dude.

Amelie
The only film with a more powerful opening sequence is Magnolia.  Pure joy, and one of the most powerful examples of filmmaking.

Eyes Wide Shut
Read the thread, and read mutinyco's excellent essay on the subject.  My appreciation only increases with each viewing.

The Ice Storm
Regarding sexuality, the innocence and naivete in children and adults has never been more perfectly juxtaposed.

Gamblour.

Great picks Ono, though I have yet to see the Ice Storm.

                            Jerry Falwell: What?
Roy Grutman: Yeah, Jerry, he's suing you.
Jerry Falwell: He's suing me? For heaven's sakes, on what grounds?
Roy Grutman: Well, you xeroxed his ad, and you sent it out in a million fundraiser letters.
                            Jerry Falwell: Yeah, so?
Roy Grutman: But you didn't get his permission. And that's copyright infringement.
Jerry Falwell: The depth of his depravity sickens me.

Althea Leasure: The reign of Christian terror is over. We're going back to our roots. We are porn again

                                           JOHNNY:
You can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs.
And humanity is just a cracked egg. And the omelet stinks

                                            LOUISE:
                            How did you get here?
                                            JOHNNY:
Well, basically, there was this little dot, right? And the
dot went bang and the bang expanded. Energy formed into matter,
matter cooled, matter lived, the amoeba to fish, to fish to fowl,
to fowl to frog, to frog to mammal, the mammal to monkey, to
monkey to man, amo amas amat, quid pro quo, memento mori, ad

Johnny: I've got an infinite number of places to go, the problem is somewhere to stay.

                                             Ace Rothstein: And that's that.

bonus for anyone who has seen it

The Perineum Falcon

I can only think of two that, I guess, aren't so obvious:

just think about it...
We often went to the cinema, the screen would light up and we would tremble, but also, increasingly often, Madeleine and I were disappointed. The images had dated, they jittered, and Marilyn Monroe had gotten terribly old. We were sad, this wasn't the film we had dreamed of, this wasn't the total film that we all carried around inside us, this film that we would have wanted to make, or, more secretly, no doubt, that we would have wanted to live.
