Ah suck. This was the category I voted for whatever could prevent BB from winning. Obviously I failed miserably.
He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

Why?  Are you letting your dislike of the movie get in the way of your judgment of the effects?

Iron Man came close, but I can't think of another film that had as much going for it, effect-wise.  Subtle, believable, wow-inducing.
