can't wait for the celebration on the 27th.  I heard it's got an alternate ending.

What would motivate even money grubbers to do that?
It's pretty established that the people who like these movies prefer them R an gory.

no, sadly i'm not.  between gaining an R rating and getting a theatrical release and their release on home video, heavy heavy edits were made to all of these films for inexplicable reasons.  watching through all 10 of them last year with my dad, who saw all of them in the theatre, he (we) couldnt believe what we were watching.  the films, which are all pretty terrible to begin with, were neutered completely by taking out the only reason for watching them: the gore and cool deaths.  the cuts are all pretty bad and obvious cutting away right as you get a glimpse of violence.  there was a rumor Paramount would be restoring them to their uncut versions, (most of which are available in bootleg form or in another country), but alas it was only a rumor.  these will be the same old censored for video versions.

Purple Rain is so bad (the movie), but the soundtrack is so good that the movie becomes a guilty pleasure for me.  That reminds me, perhaps I should start an official prince thread, or would I  be the only one who posted in it?

i guess there's a lot of dissapointment in the friday the 13th community about these dvd's, and some bureacratic shit combined with cost cutting have effectively NOT made this set "ultimate."  here's some more information on what's missing:

"Expect it too much? Ha!

One of the commentaries only happened because the director strongly requested to do it. He did it for free, but we almost didn´t get it - why? Because Paramount cut the production short.

Two commentaries did not happen, despite the parts being available and willing.

One commentary already available in R2 was not acquired.

Restored cut footage available in R2 and R4 is not part of the set - it was not acquired.

Paramount cut the music video and bloopers reel to cut down on costs.

One employee at Paramount confirmed by phone they do have cut footage (not in VHS, in actual film), all it takes is someone go down there dig it up. Not an easy job, right - it´s definetly a lot of man-hours. Well, two different professional DVD producers (one of them coming from the Nightmare set and other horror DVDs) offered to go into Paramount´s vaults look for the cut footage for free. Two different guys offered to do it. Not some random fans, two DVD producers. FOR FREE.

Paramount turned them both down.

The team that produced the DVD set wanted more time. Paramount refused.

Paramount´s rep said he was "dying to prove you wrong" when the regulars at HTF said there was no way the movies were going to be released unrated.

This set could be much better. They had the guys for the part 1 and 4 commentaries THERE, being interviewed and willing to do the commentaries. All it would cost was paying the sound booth guys to record it. A commentary track can be shot in a few hours. Part 3´s commentary was shot in a couple hours, so in 3 or 4 hours of work, they would´ve gotten TWO EXTRA commentaries.

This has been confirmed by not only Savini but also By Peter Bracke and the team behind the DVD set itself(toolbox): we didn´t get commentaries for part 1 and 4 because Paramount didn´t allow them to do it.

Cut scenes? It wouldn´t cost anything to Paramount. All it would take would be opening the door for two guys. Even if Paramount didn´t want to restore it, they would have the scenes in better shape than the VHS copies they have now - and for more movies too.

Paramount set a pointless date for release and cut production on the set short. Why the hell were they so dead-set into releasing this now? Why not next year? Freddy vs Jason´s buzz is long dead. They´re not cashing in on anything, they could easily let this set develop more and release it NEXT Halloween instead of this one.

If Paramount simply allowed them to do it, we would have more cut footage in the extras and more commentaries. If Paramount CARED, we would have a few unrated cuts and more commentaries."

so, there you go.

It's 60 dollars, not a bad price for these.  But as you see from the photos theyre putting 2 movies per disc, and that's fucking ridiculous.  Paramount is such a shitty studio when it comes to this stuff.
