So, I've been searching around for a song for my improv troupe to hit the stage with on a regular basis.

What we need is something that rocks from the top.  The song starts and it's immediately rock-heavy.  Rockin'...  no slow builds, no wimpy stuff.  It can have a brief intro like a drum hit or shout-out or something, but only a second or two.

Some examples:

Queen Bitch and Rebel Rebel- Bowie
Kick out The Jams - MC5
Kashmir - Zepplin
Y Control (among others)- Yes Yes Yeses
Unless it Kicks - Okkervil River

Anyway...you get the idea... what are some of your favorite songs that rock from the top?

john

Let There Be Rock - AC/DC
So It Goes - Nick Lowe
Debaser - Pixies
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere - Neil Young
Complete Control, White Riot, Drug Stabbing Time - The Clash
Sick Sick Sick - Queens of the Stone Age
Take Me Down To The Hospital - The Replacements
Timebomb - Old 97s
Lots of White Stripes songs
Lots of Guns N' Roses songs
Maybe every day is Saturday morning.

I would go with UMass:

The National Anthem - Radiohead
Maggie's Farm - Rage Against The Machine
This Is Radio Clash - The Clash
Idiot's Rule - Jane's Addiction

Nice choice! I wouldn't argue.

not sure if you can beat The National Anthem.

That 'Maggie's Farm' cover by Rage is pretty amazing. Good choice Mac. 'Helter Skelter' By The Beatles if you turn it way up...Also 'Just Got To Be' by The Black Keys. 'The Stroke' By Billy Squire or if you want to go obscure 'Thrill of it all' by Black sabbath is pretty intense.
The Beatles know Jesus Christ has returned to Earth and is in Los Angeles.

I can think of other examples, but the first one that comes to mind:

Frankenstein - Edgar Winters (at full volume)
