Looks like he went out of work after Van Helsing. I can't imagine why, it was such a masterpiece, but nothing compared to the Mummy franchise. When is the Mummy 3 coming out? I can't wait.

Stefen

I think he changed his name to Steven Summers and started over.

Heard he sells insurance in Detroit.
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

Oh Snap! Mummy 3 IS being made. But not by Stephen. Looks like Rob Cohen (xXx) will be directing this with a script written by the creators of Smallville. Oh, and Jet Li is gonna be in this.

Plot Outline:
In the Far East, trouble-seeking father-and-son duo Rick (Fraser) and Alex O'Connell (Ford) unearth the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin (Li) -- a shape-shifting entity who was cursed by a wizard (Yeoh) centuries ago.

Wow. Sounds like a disaster. It looks like this is going to be worse than I thought.

Stephen Sommers set to take the helm on GI JOE!

Looks like Stephen Sommers is the new man in charge at GI Joe Headquarters!

The word is that Paramount has offered Stephen "Mummy Wrangler" Sommers the task of bringing the next old school icon back to the big screen.  It looks like rather than sticking with either the Skip Woods origin story or Elliot/Lovett's more straight out adaptation they will be focuisng on a mash-up of the two.

What's unclear is what this means for Sommer's remake of When Worlds Collide which is supposedly in pre-production as I type this.

Is Mark Walberg still strapping on Duke's boots?  IESB got the original scoop on his casting and it stands to reason he's still onboard but it's Hollywood so you never know.

Could GI Joe be the next Transformers? Hard to say without any giant fucking robots on screen to wow people they are going to need some serious action and big names to get that level of hype...oh yeah and casting two INSANELY hot chicks for Scarlett and the Baroness couldn't hurt either....and by all means my place is available for casting calls.

Now the real big question that fans are going to hit on is the most obvious one: Is Sommers the right man for the job?

No matter who steps in, there is going to be some negative and positive reaction to the choice...ask Michael Bay.  Sommers has proven he can make a fun action adventure popcorn flick, but he's also dropped a major ball with Van Helsing...only time and boxes of bullets will tell.

Go 'Joe': 3 more join the action
Source: Hollywood Reporter

The "G.I. Joe" brigade is growing larger.

Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Said Taghmaoui will join Sienna Miller and Ray Park in Paramount's live action film "G.I. Joe."

Stephen Sommers is directing Stuart Beattie's latest screenplay draft based on the popular Hasbro action figures, comic book series and Saturday morning cartoon. That cartoon featured military soldiers fighting a terrorist group called Cobra, with characters like the mute ninja Snake Eyes (Park) on the side of the good guys.

This latest version has G.I. JOE, which stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, as an international force of operatives set in Brussels.

Nichols will play Scarlett, a skilled martial artist who specializes in hand-to-hand combat and counterintelligence.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play ordnance expert Heavy Duty and Taghmaoui will play Breaker, the team's communications specialist.

Miller will play the Baroness, known for her espionage skills.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Hasbro's Brian Goldner are producing with Sommers and Bob Ducsay. The film is scheduled for an August 2009 release.

Nichols recently was seen in the horror film "P2" for Summit Entertainment. Her other feature credits include 2005's "The Amityville Horror." On television, she appeared on ABC's "Alias." She is repped by Endeavor, Management 360 and Rick Genow.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who played Mr. Eko on ABC's "Lost," also has appeared in the feature films "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and "The Bourne Identity." He is repped by APA, 3 Arts and attorney Nina Shaw.

Taghmaoui now appears in the "The Kite Runner" for Paramount Vantage and will be seen in the upcoming dramas "Traitor" and "Vantage Point." His TV credits include Showtime's "Sleeper Cell."
