sand animation

I've never seen sand animation before.  does anyone know much about them?  is this some genre that I've just always overlooked?  anyways, here's an example.  kinda like a big etch and sketch with fingers.

a friend of mine showed me that same video a while ago.  i don't really know much about it but it is quite amazing.

This really is beautiful.  Everyone should see it.  A shame about this type of thing is there's nothing really to say but to sit back in admiration and say "wow."  So I'm doing that, and posting, so more people will give it a look.
