this is from dvd.ign.com

------------
Do you have any info about the release of the Seinfeld TV series on DVD?

Jeremy Responds: Unfortunately, it's doubtfull we'll ever see Seinfeld on DVD. TBS, who runs the show in syndication, just recently paid more than $200 million for the exclusive rights to the series through 2011. It's doubtful that the studio that owns the show would want to jeopardize that much money by releasing it on DVD.

So then why are Friends and Simpsons on DVD? Aren't they constantly on reruns as well? It seems to me the company would make money...

Might be because Friends tends to run on WB stations and Simpsons on Fox stations, so they really aren't losing anything.

Seinfeld DVD Eyed

DVD Exclusive talked to Jerry Seinfeld about whether or not we'll see a Seinfeld DVD any time soon.

"I've heard some talk of it. It's really one of those things that, I'm not participating in that decision," says Seinfeld, "It's a distribution decision. But I'm hearing that it's in the air. They're definitely considering it."

He says that Columbia TriStar has the rights to the series now and that they are trying to find what extras should go on the DVD. "One of the things is trying to find outtakes and gag reels and stuff that we wanted to include. That has been a problem. Nobody seems to really know where that is. It's so funny. Things you never would think of when you're making a show, when you cut a scene, that you're gonna want that 10 years later. You know, it never would cross your mind. We had no such notions back then."

He adds that he is participating in what the series would look like on DVD. Look for the release to have "interviews with who, by who. You know, cast members and writers, and who we would want the commentary from. And, the other things I mentioned. What kinds of outtakes do we have? What should we use?"

i was just thinking about the first season of seinfeld, it really was not that great a show.

they were trying to be woody allen ish and they just did not come off that interesting.

the show took off when they started adding really funny co stars to bounce off of .

that and the fact that they ( jerry george elaine and kramer) gave up trying to be likeable, the more and more fucked up as people they got the better the show got . Well kramer was not that bad but the other three were pretty fucked up people

thats why the last epiosde was so  perfect

Yeah, a lotta people rag on the last season because it threw any hint of reality out the window, but I liked it the best. The more bizarre = more hilarious. I mourn the fact that I will never get to see a new episode of this. Kinda like when I read the comics everyday, I get really sad there's no Calvin & Hobbes anymore.

that was a show that got better with time, my fav episodes come from the end the butter shave and the english patient

the butter shave one had george pretending to be handy cap to get a better bathroom. That may very well be one of the funniest moments in tv history, that montage where they play morning train by sheena easton

the one thing on the show that i never got was that episode where kramer was on the firetruck, that screams lame sitcom idea, but they are better then that so maybe it was like aironic inside joke , i dunno it always bothers me when i see that i would love somebody to ask jerry about that.

Seinfeld was probably the only sitcom whose plot often revolved around the movies. The one where Jerry learns the art of video pirating was great.

too many great seinfeld moments to name. Yeah the show did evolve over its nine year run. i like watching the old ones just for nostalgic reasons. the episode that really put seinfeld on the map was the one that took place in the chinese restaurant when they're waiting for a table the whole time. I do think some of my favorite episodes were the later ones, when the show got really dark. (Elaine in particular, changed the most as the show went on)

It's funny because most of the time when the movies came up in the show, they used made-up movies, and the titles were always kind of funny but realistic....i love the episode where Kramer's number is very similar to the Moviephone, and he starts to act as Moviephone..."Why don't just tell me which movie you'd like to see?"

Jerry Seinfeld Gives DreamWorks A Bee

Jerry Seinfeld will write, produce and star in an animated comedy for DreamWorks Pictures, it was announced today by DreamWorks principal Jeffrey Katzenberg. The computer-animated feature, entitled "Bee Movie," will be set in an anthropomorphized world of bees.

In making the announcement, Katzenberg said, "Jerry Seinfeld is one of the most brilliant and unique comic minds of our time. It has been a dream of mine for over 10 years to be in business with him, and during that time, I have been willing to put myself in any number of potentially humiliating situations in order to demonstrate my unflagging appreciation of his talent. We were delighted when he came to us with his wonderfully funny concept for an animated feature and even more thrilled to be the studio that will bring Jerry Seinfeld's comedy to the big screen."

Seinfeld's manager, Howard West, of Shapiro-West, commented, "Studios have been courting Jerry for years following the success of 'Seinfeld,' but it wasn't until he met with the creative minds at DreamWorks that Jerry decided to do a film. We are very excited to be working with the proven DreamWorks team on this new endeavor."

Jerry Seinfeld stated, "I have always been fascinated by bee society, the world's most harmoniously run organization, and now I finally am going to be in it. The enthusiasm of Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg for this idea is the main reason I decided to do it."

Here:

Kramer is in the kitchen. He has three bowls out on the counter, and a box of
Rice Crispies. Jerry walks over, pushing a bunch of checks into an envelope.

JERRY: What is this?

KRAMER: Rice Crispies. East meets West, Jerry.

JERRY: Ah. It's a lovely little bureau and breakfast you're running. Well,
I'm off to the bank.

KRAMER: (opening the fridge) Sayonara.

JERRY: (leaving) Konichi-wa.

And from the same episode, I found this scene hilarious too:

JERRY: You know, maybe they thought you looked too smart to be brainwashed?

GEORGE: Please.

JERRY: Too dumb?

George gives Jerry a look. Kramer enters, wearing a snazzy new suit. He
strolls over to the booth.

JERRY: (impressed) Well! Mack is back in town! Nice duds.

KRAMER: Konichi-wa. Yeah, it's a gift from my Japanese friends. (sits beside
Jerry) They're known as gift-givers. And tonight we're going dancing at the
Rainbow Room.

JERRY: Sounds like you're throwing a lot of their money around.

KRAMER: Well, Jerry, they're Japanese. I mean, that TV you watch, that sushi
you eat, I mean, even that kimono you wear. Where to you think all that money
goes, hmm?

Jerry looks puzzled.

KRAMER: That's right.

There's this excellent deli I used to go to before I moved away that was all about Seinfeld. They had old episodes playing all day on a little screen, cast photos on the walls, etc. They even named a lot of the food items after the characters and defining moments. I would go there for lunch atleast once a week and order "a Costanza, hold the mayo," while my girlfriend, a vegetarian, would get "Soup Nazi and a salad."

Sorry, that had absolutely nada to do with DVDs.

Seinfeld cast boycotts DVD

Actors who played Kramer, George and Elaine won't participate in DVD set due to money fight.
December 23, 2003: 8:43 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Kramer, George and Elaine aren't happy, so fans of the old Seinfeld sitcom won't be seeing interviews with them on an upcoming DVD set, according to a published report.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that Michael Richards (who played Kramer), Jason Alexander (who played George) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who played Elaine), declined to give on-camera interviews for the DVD set or otherwise participate in the project because they are not being offered a share of the sales, only a recording fee.

"They all said, 'Why should we make other people richer,'" said a representative of one of the actors to the Times.

One of the selling points of DVDs are the extras not available with the original product, such as commentary tracks by a film's or series' director or stars, or features and documentaries about the making of the movie or show.

The sale of DVD collections of an entire season or two of a television show has become the fastest growing segment of the already fast-growing DVD market, according to industry officials. Sales of TV on DVD sales are expected to nearly double this year to $1.5 billion from $880 million in 2002, Video Store Magazine told CNN/Money earlier this year.

The Times reports that one of the representatives of the three unhappy actors said the three receive annual payments of about $100,000 each from the continued airing of the show in syndication. But that pales in comparison to the millions received by the show's creators, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. Seinfeld and David, along with the companies set to produce and distribute the DVD, will share in sales of the DVD set.

The three supporting stars also received $600,000 each per episode the final year the show was still on NBC, although they had been seeking $1 million each per episode. Each has starred in short-lived network series since "Seinfeld" went off the air.

"Seinfeld" ran on NBC from 1990 through 1998 and is now popular in syndication. The DVD set is being prepared by Castle Rock Entertainment, which produced the show for NBC, and is to be distributed by Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. Castle Rock is a unit of Time Warner Inc. (TWX: Research, Estimates), as is CNN/Money. Columbia TriStar is a unit of Sony (SNE: Research, Estimates), while NBC is a unit of General Electric Co. (GE: Research, Estimates)

Baby, baby, stick your head in gravy!

I'm still gonna get it, though.

I hate how on TV they're trimming the episodes down.  They take little bits of dialogue here and there, or complete openings.  I hate it!  DVD better have the full monty

Question:  I've seen a couple of quick clips on the Clip Show of Seinfeld, but never seen them in actual episodes.

For example, what episode is Newman powersliding around the corner in a really hot black car, and gets out with sunglasses?  The only thing I can think of is in The Muffin Tops when he comes in to deal with the "situation" a la Pulp Fiction's The Wolf.

Also, there's a quick clip on the show (during the montage playing to the Superman theme) where Elaine's in bed with all three of the guys, and then she wakes up.  WHERE THE HECK IS THAT ONE?

Someone help me, I'm going insane.

[Elaine tries to push her alarm clock showing 3:30. She realizes, that alarm comes from next door.]

Elaine: [Banging the wall] Turn your alarm off!! [Screams]

Wow, thank you!

Kramer Cracks in "Seinfeld" Feud
Source: E! Online

Kramer has crossed the Seinfeld picket line.

Michael Richards, the beloved, wacky star of the much-Emmy’d comedy series has broken ranks with costars Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus and decided to participate in an upcoming DVD about the show.

Until now, all three stars have passed on participating in the project due to financial woes—reps for all three actors have said their clients were unhappy with their payoffs from the continually successful show and they didn’t want to work for free.

But Richards finally caved to pressure after talking things over with series star Jerry Seinfeld over the weekend. He does maintain that he would like to receive some cash for participating, particularly since others like Seinfeld, co-creator Larry David and several others involved in production are still making money on the show.

"I think everyone wants to get paid," Richards told the New York Times. "Is it honorable for those on the inside to make compensation? That's an ethical question they have to deal with. But I never heard back from anybody."

It seems unlikely that Kramer will cash in for his participation, since actors don’t generally get paid on residual deals like DVDs. "I innocently asked a question. 'Is there some compensation?' I don't believe there is," Richards told the Times. "There isn't anything."

Still, Richards says he is going to do his part to make the DVD a success. "I'm not boycotting," he told the Times. "I'm involved. I was never called to do an interview. I am so for the DVD coming out that I'll go on the Tonight show."

Elizabeth Clark, a rep for Seinfeld, says the actor still has hope that the erstwhile George and Elaine will come around and that he plans to get in touch with them in the New Year. "He hopes they will participate in the DVD," she said in a statement.

But whether Alexander and Louis-Dreyfus sign on or not, the DVD is likely to be a smashing success. Seinfeld was consistently a No. 1 show and a mainstay of "Must-See TV" on NBC throughout its run from 1990 to 1998. Even today, it still runs relentlessly in syndication and generates millions for its Seinfeld and David, co-creators and executive producers.

Seinfeld, meanwhile, is having no trouble keeping his pockets lined even without the help of his hit show.

The star has landed a deal to write, produce and star in Bee Movie, a computer-animated feature-length flick for DreamWorks.

Dreyfuss and Alexander won't sign on to help unless they get paid?  Or did I misread that?

I'm sure it'd be a blast to meet up again and do some commentary on a show that was arguably one of the best sitcoms ever.  But, what do I know?

Watch the Second Seinfeld & Superman Webisode!
Source: American Express Thursday, May 20, 2004

American Express has uploaded the second Webisode in "The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman" at the official website. You can watch the clip, called "Hindsight is 20/20," by selecting the 'Hindsight' reel on the table. Then you can choose from watching it either in Flash format or hi-res QuickTime format.

Also, tonight NBC will be airing the 10 minutes of "The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman" tonight from 8:42 pm to 8:52 pm. The network will be showing the first Webisode, "A Uniform Used to Mean Something," and what we is expect is a promo for this second Webisode.

In the Webisodes, Superman is voiced by actor Patrick Warburton, who played David Puddy in NBC's "Seinfeld".

I agree with SHAFTR.  They were horrible.  Not to mention NBC made it out to be like it was some sort of big event -- Jerry Seinfeld's triumphant return to NBC, like maybe he was gonna do some stand-up or something fitting of Seinfeld -- but it ended up being just a commercial with stupid jokes, or rather, filler until the rerun of the Friends finale could air.

LISTEN UP stars Jason Alexander in a comedy about a well-regarded sports talk show host and columnist who struggles to get the respect and admiration from his family that he gets from his fans. Based on the writings of real-life sports commentator and columnist Tony Kornheiser, Tony Clineman (Alexander) is an irreverent sports show host who banters about all things sports with his witty sidekick, Bernie Widmer (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), a former football player turned sports show host, on their television talk show, "Shut Up and Listen." Tony has also begun writing a humorous syndicated newspaper column that includes commentary on his family who are less than thrilled to have their trials and tribulations made public. Tony's wife, Dorothy, works as a fundraiser. While not a sports fan, she is always supportive of her paranoid and obsessive-but-loving husband. Lauren (Daniella Monet) is the Clineman's know-it-all, soccer-playing 14-year-old daughter. Mickey (Will Rothhaar) is their 15-year-old golf prodigy son. While Tony's inability to self-edit before broadcasting his thoughts is what makes him most endearing to his fans, it keeps his friends and family on their toes as everything could be fodder for his column.

Of course my favorite show of all time. I get in spurts where I watch up to 7 episodes a day. It comes and goes. Right now since I'm back in school I'm watching a lot of episodes. I was watching Midnight Cowboy the other day for the first time and at the ending where Joe Buck and Rizzo are on the bus I realized this was paid homage to in Seinfeld in the episode where Kramer keeps getting nosebleeds.  This got me thinking about how many movie references that are made in Seinfeld. There has to be hundreds.  Some of the most apparent one's like The English Patient and Schindler's List.  This site chronicles a lot of them.

Surprised there were NO comments about the DVD yet.

I finished the first disc and started the second disc and the extras are already impressive.  Text commentaries, or "Notes About Nothing" and short 3 minute "Inside Look" featurettes on each episode.  I thought these would be synopses but they are actually informative.  The menus are creative without being difficult to navigate.  Easily one of the best TV-on-DVD packages I've seen.

The pilot is like another world altogether.  The music is different, Jerry's apartment has a huge window, Kramer is Kessler, the diner is different, etc.  So far from what I've watched the characters have not yet been defined as neurotic.  George is a real estate agent and actually seems mature, and Elaine isn't particularly strange either.  Jerry doesn't yet have the hangups and OCD-like mannerisms that he was famous for.  It's a fun experience watching the evolution of the show, though I will probably watch the later seasons more often.

I didn't need the salt and pepper shakers and scripts and all that crap so I bought the DVDs alone.

From AOL news:

Seinfeld 'Festivus' Display Vies With Nativity

By SARA KENNEDY, AP

BARTOW, Fla. (Dec. 23) - When a church group put a nativity scene on public property, officials warned it might open the door to other religious - and not-so-religious - displays. They were right.

Since the nativity was erected in Polk County, displays have gone up honoring Zoroastrianism and the fake holiday Festivus, featured on the TV show "Seinfeld."

The Polk County Commission voted 4-1 Wednesday to permit the nativity scene to remain across the street from the courthouse, as well as to make that area a "public forum" open to any type of display.

But the commission insisted that unless someone claims a particular display and submits a written request asking it remain, it would be removed. By Wednesday evening, no one had claimed the Festivus display, and the commission said it would come down; a woman claimed the Zoroastrianism display, which was to stay.

The debate began Dec. 15 when a handmade creche with the figures of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus was erected by a Bible study group from the First Baptist Church of Bartow.

"The real spirit of Christmas is the birth of Christ," said Marvin Pittman, a retired law enforcement officer and parishioner. "We felt it needs to be in the public eye, so we did it."

Other displays are fine, too, he said, adding, "If somebody wants to do that, it's their right."

And true to form, the site almost immediately sprouted alternative displays, including a simple sign that reads: "Festivus for the Rest of Us - Donated to Polk County by the Seinfeld Fan Club."

The display, a reference to the fake holiday featured on an episode of the television sitcom, did not include the totem of Festivus - a bare aluminum pole instead of a tree. Key rituals of Festivus include accusing others of being a disappointment and wrestling.

Another display celebrating Zoroastrianism was erected by Stella Darby, who wanted to encourage people to research the ancient Persian religion.

Richard Blank, a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, objected to the nativity scene's presence on public property, arguing it violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

"The nativity scene is totally celebratory of the birth of Christ," he said. "Not everyone subscribes to that, and those who do should put it on their own property."

But a board member who voted to allow the creche as part of the "public forum" disagreed with Blank. "A group had asked to display a scene important to their beliefs; I felt we shouldn't suppress their right to do so," said Commissioner Samuel K. Johnson.

i'm not, they only get better with repeat viewings.

especially when you know you can quote any line from it and your friends all get it. that's the preciousness of seinfeld, and the simpsons for that matter.

Seven through nine are considered the "bad seasons" though they're still hilarious and better than anything else on TV at the time or now.  They fell into pop culture references (for example, Newman doing The Wolf's "Time is of the essence" speech) and ratched up the unlikeability of the characters.  But don't consider avoiding the last three seasons.

oh man, is that ever the truth. Anytime ANYONE makes any remark about eating chicken, I say "mess you up". I'll be sitting around and just very subtly (to me) toss out a litte Sein-quote, and all the North Americans in the room start smiling, while all the Brits and the rest of the Europeans just stare.

Which is a fun blank slate, too, when you think about it, and one of the cool things about having an Eastern European girlfriend. When I introduce her to things like Bob Dylan music or Seinfeld, I say it is "the best, of all time, ever, in America" and it goes unquestioned.

And George is one of the alltime classic fictional characters, in any medium.

Isn't George based off Larry David? Not that I'm saying "You idiot!!!!", but is that true?

"Seinfeld" DVD boxed set in works

One of the most popular TV series of all time is about to go out with a bang -- again.

When "Seinfeld" went off the air in May 1998, its two-part finale scored huge ratings, with more than 75 million people tuning in. TV Land paid tribute to the celebrated sitcom about a neurotic New Yorker and his bumbling pals by airing no programming that night in the show's time slot, instead showing a photo of a closed office door.

Now, "Seinfeld" is about to end its complete-season run on DVD. Season 9, a four-disc set with all 24 episodes from its final season, will be released November 6 by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

That same day, consumers will be able to buy an elaborate boxed set with all nine seasons. "Seinfeld: The Complete Series" weighs in at 32 discs and carries a suggested list price of $283.95. That buys consumers not just all 180 episodes but also a wealth of bonus features, both electronic and physical.

The highlight: a 226-page coffee-table book filled with photos, quotes, trivia and personal reflections from star Jerry Seinfeld.

"When the show wrapped, the book, which had taken years to assemble, was privately shared with only the cast and crew," said Marc Rashba, vp marketing at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. "When we were launching the TV-DVD series sets five years ago, we loved it so much, but we took a look, and it was ridiculously expensive to put it out. Now, we reshaped and redesigned it, and we were able to make it happen. It's the first time the public will get to see it."

The book comes with a bonus DVD featuring a first-ever cast reunion round-table discussion with Seinfeld, co-creator Larry David and co-stars Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards. The hourlong discussion finds the cast and David together again on the ninth anniversary of the series finale.

Other special features in the boxed set are documentaries on all nine seasons, bloopers, deleted scenes, commentaries and more.

"We talked about this from the beginning, when we launched this," Rashba said. "We always knew we wanted to wrap up with something special."

From the start, Sony Pictures' "Seinfeld" DVD season sets were lauded for their innovative special features. Season 9 is no exception, including such novel extras as a restructured version of "The Betrayal," the notorious reverse-playing episode, shown going forward.

So I saw Jerry today at a standup show in Miami. It was so great. I saw him many times doing standup, so I knew most of the material he had, but still he is just a funny character. Had a blast. The best part is that he said at the end that they started to talk more seriously about doing a Seinfeld reunion soon, as its been 10 years already since the show ended. He said as soon as they are sure that their careers hit rock bottom, it will happen!

'Marriage' returns Seinfeld to NBC
Comic to exec produce reality series
Source: Variety

Jerry Seinfeld is returning to network series television after an 11-year hiatus as creator and exec producer of an NBC reality series that seeks to mine laughs out of marriage problems.

The comedian and his Columbus 81 Prods. are teaming with longtime "Oprah Winfrey Show" exec producer Ellen Rakieten to create "The Marriage Ref," a nonfiction series that will feature opinionated celebrities, comedians and sports stars offering commentary and advice to real-life couples enduring "classic marital disputes."

"This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show," said Seinfeld, who will, guest appearances aside, be involved in his first TV series since "Seinfeld" left the air in 1998. "After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich."

According to NBC Entertainment co-chair Ben Silverman, no premiere date or timeslot has yet been selected for the series.

"Jerry called us up and told us he had an idea," Silverman said. "He flew in to sit down with us, and he and Ellen pitched the show. We were laughing the whole time as they went through the concept. As Jerry noted, some of the greatest comedies in history have been about marriage."

For her part, Rakieten has been involved with "Oprah" since the syndie phenom's launch 23 years ago. She has served as exec producer of the show since 2003.

"Picture well-known people weighing in on a couple's relationship issues and deciding who is right and who is wrong right on the spot, like a referee," she said.

I love this so much, the funniest thing I've come across lately. Sadly, the Pete Holmes show has been cancelled and we won't get any more gems like this. This is the best one, but if you like it check out 1-3.
