I saw the film in korean a while ago, it was pretty entertaining in a tongue-in-cheek kinda way, and its climatic kungfu showdown in the rain predates the matrix.  It's mostly over-the-top special effects stuff, on top of a real comicbook-like storyline.  Snoop Dogg, Method Man, and Mya are dubbing the American version though, man MTV tries too hard.

Boy, this was a terrible movie, and the voice dubbing was awful. I might have liked it better with the original language intact, but hearing Snoop Dogg's voice out of an Asian guy was very, very distracting and stupid.

It wasn't that great of a movie, but the dubbing made is soooo laughably bad it was... well, a bit unfunny even. Plus the main characters was too wimpy for his own good.

It does have a funny premise...since people like Snoop Dogg and Method Man ruin our language with their gangsta rap, now they have to ruin Korean with dubbing.

Weird. Oh

I don't think I have ever seen a MTV movie that was good. The whole idea of MTV is extreme commercialism. The only movie I kind of enjoyed was Better luck Tommorow which was produced by MTV i think.

This wasn't an MTV movie in that it was produced by MTV. It was just shown on the channel.

And anytime some brings up exactly what I quoted, I say:

And "Varsity Blues" isn't that bad.

But I drive a big truck to compensate.

ELECTION was great and so was BETTER LUCK TOMORROW!!  and BLT was not produced by MTV, it was an independent film by justin lin and was bought by MTV for distribution.

are you serious?

better luck tomorrow was so fucking horrible. man, i wanted to slap the director when i was watching that crap. and that fucking typical "poignant", playwrite-type line at the end: "why did you do that article on me?" "what! what are you talking about what are we gonna do!?" "goodbye"....ewwww. man that was ugly.

i don't know. i was just really annoyed how the entire time i was watching it, i just felt it was obvious that the director/writer/whoever was trying way too hard to be "deep" or something. also, all that cocaine smothered all around that guy's nose as he comes out of the school bathroom with that speeded-up dolly shot or whatever...it was cheese like that that made the movie suck filthy ballsac.

oh yeah, that revolving shot when they kill that guy with paint thinner or whatever...CHEESE AGAIN!

sorry for ranting. i would have done a nicely-framed static shot with that scene.
