Title: Long-Lost Xixax Members
Post by: hedwig on November 16, 2007, 12:26:12 PM
this thread is dedicated to the xixax members of yesteryear! where did they go? are they dead? are they married? are they giving themselves in slavery to a pyromaniacal pagan whom they met at stonehenge on the summer solstice?

i'll start the list.

sleuth
find your magali
weak2ndact
ultrahip

things that inspired me to create this thread: the recent return of polkablues, bigideas's completely random ebeaman post, the fact that this thread once existed pre-mogwaideletion days.

My favorite posters that are missing are the idiot ones like Bruce Lee and his elvis paintings, and Prophet who once asked if Tarantino was the first to have interweaving storylines in his movies. He then got smashed on by pubikhair.

There was a time when we had more active female members:

budgie
molly
Vile5
Thrindle
beady
BonBon85
pookiethecat

And who could forget, the pants creamer himself, GodDamnImDaMan.

i'm glad cowboykurtis and polky are back.

i'd like to see the return of those hed mentioned as well as shanghaiorange and mrburgerking -- those two were the best running gags in the history of xixax. i hav a feeling MrBurgerKing never made it past the "upcoming surgery" he kept talking about.. and Shanghai prolly gave in to all the sadness. :(

sleuth was a comic genius but his mystique finally overtook him and he dematerialized into a higher realm where everything is mysterious and vague. a place where ppl are all emotionally distant, and the only permitted laughter is of the closed-mouth "mm-hm-hm-hm" kind.

and phil marlowe should stop lurking.

I Left when i got my last GF, she wasn't into films that were not on at the cinema, so i just kinda stopped watching real films. so i would post even less.

Seriously Pete, it's time to move on... she's gone... but not from your heart.
When you're out at the coast alone, just remember, she's smiling next to you in silent lucidity.

but she feels so real.

I'm gonna quote Jonathan Richman now.

Well, she herself might never come back
But she's with me here because
A heart that's once known love
Is never the way it was.
Well, she herself might never come back
But she's with me all my days.
Her certain way of talkin', her certain silent ways.
And that night we first held hands, you still can see
Oh, she herself might never come back
But you can just look at me.

An interesting thread ("Down Since Day One", I mean).  Very Boogie/Magnolia -centric (which it would have to have been at the time, I guess).  That Pubrick fellow seemed quite volitile.  I would say thing have become much more civil since then.  Interesting to me that there's a new generation of film buffs since then,  and new PTA acolytes have many more opportunities for discovery.   Seems like Boogie, though, would be much more accessible/exciting/thrilling to a teen then than Thread would now.

I believe you mean This? (http://xixax.com/index.php?topic=10941.0)

He still hasn't reviewed There Will Be Blood almost ten years later now, what a flake.

He hasn't posted in 4 years but his profile says he was lurking here just last december, stay on your toes.

I've been mulling over This (http://xixax.com/index.php?topic=12333.msg323465#msg323465) post of his in response to some of my pseudo-analysis you can entirely disregard. I was really grasping at straws there. Sometimes I'd try to make some profound point about PTA's work just to lure him out of the darkness and put me in my place, because it's really his forte.

Pubrick was a founding father and had as much to do with the evolution of this site as anyone could have.

He was more or less the sheriff, in a semi-reluctant and unhinged Seth Bullock kind of way. New blood would come in and start acting a fool and he'd be the one to set em straight...some couldn't hang and flamed out quick, and some learned the way became power users (Stefen, modage possibly?). Sometimes he would lash out at someone who didn't fully deserve it (Gold Trumpet for sure, and pretty much everyone once or twice), but when some punk-ass motherfucking troll would come in and start stinking up the joint (InTylerWeTrust - if you're still out there I hope your meds are working now), Pubrick would reliably tell them what time it was.

Sharp dude when it came to film discussion too. I'd be happy if he were to pop up again once in a while.

i missed out on Pubrick's brilliance and think of him as peevish. though sometimes he exposed his human core and i liked him then. most of my favorite people are still active. Axolotl (http://xixax.com/index.php?action=profile;u=8340) i could use more of. from the ancient days it's too bad that godardian (http://xixax.com/index.php?action=profile;u=168) and hedwig (http://xixax.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1080) are gone. too often i don't know why i'm here but obviously when i'm reminded it creates a lasting impression. i think the new posters WorldForgot and Lewton are great posters, along with others who i'm not mentioning, just imagine i would've mentioned [you] too.

I haven't looked yet, but is there a place here where we've shared how we each came to first stand in the warmth of the PTA sun?  (I don't mean having met him, but fallen for his creative charms.)  Cuz I'd love read those as well.

Yeah, right here (http://xixax.com/index.php?topic=2480.0)

That thread was hysterical/terrifying. It's been a while since I did a deep dive into our archives, mostly because I die a little inside from secondhand embarrassment reading my old posts.

Damn we're getting old huh.

when I see an old post that I have posted, I don't read it, I just delete it, because I know it's embarrassing. the self-hatred is strong on this one.

Pretty interesting thread. I've got to ask: Is Pubrick referring to TWBB as CMBB? If so, what does CWBB stand for, and why call it that?

check out this in-depth interview with former xixax member mutinyco (Jamie Stuart), wherein he discusses his first feature length flick A Motion Selife. he did the entire production without any crew (including post) and discusses what that process was like. having seen the film last year, i can confirm that it's tight. really unique, actually. not many people here remember him as he quit posting long, long ago, but he was one of the early on members and had a strong presence on the site for a few years. here's the link:
