George Michael arrest over drugs

The singer George Michael has been cautioned after being arrested in a public toilet for possession of drugs, thought to include crack cocaine.

"A 45-year-old man was arrested on 19 September on suspicion of possession of drugs in the Hampstead Heath area," a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The singer was taken to a police station and given the caution for possessing class A and class C drugs.

Home Office Minister Tony McNulty said drug laws needed to be "flexible".

Asked why Michael had been given a relatively mild punishment for the possession of class A drugs, Mr McNulty said he did not know the details of the case.

But he added that the law provides a wide range of punishments for possession of drugs, and "circumstances and context" had to be applied.

The Home Office website says possession of class A drugs can result in up to seven years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.

Mr McNulty told the BBC: "The biggest message is that drugs are wrong and people will be punished, but it must be right that there is flexiblity in the law," he said.

But the government has the balance "about right" between being tough when it needs to be and providing treatment for individuals "to get off that horrible spiral of drug dependancy and crime", he added.

'Quieter life'

Last month, George Michael completed his 25 Live world tour, his first for 15 years.

After performing "final" dates at London's Earls Court and in Copenhagen, Michael said he would be retiring from arena and stadium shows.

He said he would leave the "bells and whistles" of large-scale tours behind after the tour because he wanted a "quieter life".

During the concerts, he performed his number one hit Outside in a police uniform in a jokey reference to previous arrests.

The song itself referred to his arrest in 1998 when he was detained by an undercover police officer for lewd conduct in a public toilet in Beverly Hills, California.
Until that time he had not "come out" in public, but the arrest and subsequent conviction forced him to reveal his homosexuality and his relationship with American Kenny Goss.

Michael also came into conflict with the law in October 2006 when he was found slumped over the wheel of his car.

And last May he was given a two-year driving ban after pleading guilty to driving while unfit through drugs.

Earlier this year, the 45-year-old singer signed a multi-million pound deal with publisher HarperCollins to write his autobiography, which he said would be a "no-holds barred" account of his life.

And during his final shows on stage, he revealed that he had written a Christmas song which would be released this December - his first festive song since Wham!'s Last Christmas, initially released in 1984.

Heather Locklear arrested
The actress is suspected of driving under the influence of controlled substances in Montecito.

Actress Heather Locklear was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of controlled substances in Montecito, authorities said.

Locklear, who is no longer in custody, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol and booked about 7 p.m. after a citizen called 911 to report a woman's erratic driving, said Tom Marshall, a spokesman for the CHP.

The person who reported the incident said she saw a woman who was visibly impaired, later identified to be Locklear, getting into a car in a Montecito parking lot Saturday afternoon about 4:30, Marshall said.

Locklear showed bizarre behavior, driving back and forth over a pair of sunglasses on the pavement and revving her engine. After leaving the parking lot, she stopped her car on the street and stumbled into the traffic lane, according to the caller, who followed Locklear out of concern, Marshall said.

When the CHP officer arrived, Locklear's car was parked on State Route 192 partially blocking a lane, Marshall said. The officer talked to her and determined that she was disoriented and "under the influence of something." She was taken to the CHP's Santa Barbara-area office to be tested for alcohol and drugs.

Locklear tested negative for alcohol. Other drug tests will be returned in a few days, Marshall said.

The actress, best known for television shows such as "Melrose Place" and "Spin City," was booked on charges of driving while impaired and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

i wonder why he did that just one day prior of his brother death 15 years ago.

It's not like he's retiring to live a life of anonymity in the swiss alps.

He's retiring to focus on his pop star music career, which is laughable.

BREAKING NEWS: Joaquin Phoenix Retires... No One Cares
Joaquin Phoenix decided to announce his retirement to an E! reporter the other day and he stormed off after the reporter hastily questioned whether or not he was kidding. SOMEONE seems to take himself a TAD too seriously me thinks. I also love how this decision was made in part to allow Casey Affleck the breathing room he needs to MAKE it in Hollywood. He's had real problems with Joaquin cock blocking him throughout his career, poor guy. Joaquin needs to have a cup of coffee, sober up and snort some S-My-D because he needs to start getting real with himself pronto.

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Boy George found guilty in male escort case

The former Culture Club man kidnapped and beat up a male escort

Former Culture Club singer Boy George has today (December 5) been found guilty of falsely imprisoning and beating a man in his east London home.

The singer, 46, was tried at London's Snaresbrook Crown Court under his real name, George O'Dowd. He was found guilty of handcuffing male escort Auden Carlsen, 29, and beating him with a metal chain.

As NME.COM previously reported, Carlsen said O'Dowd had beaten him as he tried to escape from his Shoreditch flat after a naked photo shoot in November 2007.

During the case, O'Dowd had denied one count of false imprisonment.

The singer is expected to be sentenced on January 16.

O.J. Simpson sentenced to at least 15 years

LAS VEGAS – A broken O.J. Simpson was sentenced Friday to at least 15 years in prison for a hotel armed robbery after a judge rejected his apology and said, "It was much more than stupidity."

The 61-year-old football Hall of Famer stood shackled and stone-faced when Judge Jackie Glass quickly rattled off his punishment soon after he made a rambling, five-minute plea for leniency, choking back tears as he told her: "I didn't want to steal anything from anyone. ... I'm sorry, sorry."

The judge said several times that her sentence in the Las Vegas case had nothing to do with Simpson's 1994 acquittal in the slaying of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.

"I'm not here to try and cause any retribution or any payback for anything else," Glass said.

Simpson was immediately led away to prison after the judge refused to permit him to go free on bail while he appeals.

Simpson's co-defendant and former golfing buddy, Clarence "C.J. Stewart, also was sentenced to at least 15 years.

Outside court, Goldman's father, Fred Goldman, and sister, Kim, said they were thrilled with the sentence.

"There's never closure. Ron is always gone. What we have is satisfaction that this monster is where he belongs behind bars," Fred Goldman said.
