Lynch's next project is rumoured to be a Broadway musical with long-time collaborator Angelo Badalamenti. As I stated in the "Cabin Fever" thread, Eli Roth was Lynch's protege, and has spent six years doing reasearch for this. I have yet to find any info about what it's about though.

From a Badalamenti Close-Up interview:

And, as usual, there is a Lynch project on the cards - a Broadway musical that will keep Badalamenti busy and is sure to get Lynch die-hards salivating. "David would love me to buy a home adjacent to his," says Badalamenti. "Of course, I wouldn't have any life if I did. He would call me up at 7:30 in the morning and say, 'Come on, let's make music. Just play.'"

As far as movie projects go... :yabbse-huh:

According to a Lynch resource:

Contrary to rumors, Lynch isn't working on any new film project or reading any scripts. He's mostly spending time working on davidlynch.com and new art projects.

Whatever.  You're probably right, MacGuffin, but I want to believe that Lynch would do a musical.

God, if you're listening, I'll go to church for the rest of my life--early service--but PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Lynch Parisienne Ad

Lynch's commercial for Parisienne cigarettes is available from the LDM productions website (http://www.ldmproductions.fr/main/index.php?langue=en&rub=2) (11th ad down on the left side). Also featured on the site are ads directed by the Coen Bros, Roman Polanski, Wim Wenders, Robert Altman and several other well-known directors.

I hope it is Ronnie Rocket, a script he wrote about a "Frankenstein-like creature who is re-made by two bizarre scientists." To find out more, read the script review:

Quote from: Slick ShoesI hope it is Ronnie Rocket, a script he wrote about a "Frankenstein-like creature who is re-made by two bizarre scientists."

I read somewhere that Lynch tried to get that going (before "Straight Story", I think) and said he couldn't make it work, so he dumped that project.

EDIT: Here's what I found:

Ronnie Rocket was a screenplay originally written by Lynch and possibly to star Michael Anderson (The Man From Another Place in "Twin Peaks" and the Woodsman (Twin #1) in " Industrial Symphony #1"), who would have played Ronnie. This was the first film Lynch offered CIBY 2000 as a part of his former three picture deal, but they elected to pass on it.

More information from Ann Kroeber, the late Alan Splet's (Lynch's sound designer) wife:

"Actually Ronnie Rocket was written LONG before David ever set eyes on Michael Anderson. The first RR script I read was written before "The Elephant Man" was made. He used to talk with my late husband (Alan Splet) and I , any chance he could get, about Ronnie during breaks of shooting "The Elephant Man." Ronnie Rocket was the subject that was near and dear to his heart."

"Ronnie scripts have gone through all sorts of permutations over the years. I suspect that "Ronnie Rocket" is David's most thought about story and may just never be made not because that production company didn't want to shoot it, they and several others were willing, but David wasn't."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ronnie Rocket (Tip Filmjahrbuch 1985)

"Lynch: Yes, I was asked to do "Ronnie Rocket" for him [Coppola]. I wrote that prior to  "The Elephant Man' ; it was meant to follow "Eraserhead". I still love the story, but it`s obvious that it still needs a little work. I`ve just recently had a couple of new ideas.

TIP: Is it still the script that I read for, five years ago?

Lynch: No it`s entirely different, more popular.

TIP: A more commercial version of "Eraserhead' or simply easier to understand?

Lynch: Much more easy to understand and funnier. It`s got a lot of humour, an absurd kind of humour. It`s a rock`n`roll movie in a way.

TIP: Which kind of music?

Lynch: I exactly know which kind of music it is. It´s difficult to describe, you know, it doesn`t exist yet, but it´s based on 50s Rockabilly. Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent...

TIP: So Coppola wanted to produce the movie.

Lynch: Yes. I had an office at his studio, and he said: "When do you come over and tell me the story of Ronnie Rocket?"

TIP: Tell?

Lynch: Yes, Francis is a strange guy. He wanted to sit down with his eyes closed and I was to tell him the story like a bedtime story."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the early nineties, Ronnie Rocket was to be produced by Ciby 2000 but it was dropped in favour of Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, the cast would have included Michael J. Anderson, and Isabella Rossellini: "I love the script, it`s simply great - very surreal, very funny, very strange, very emotive and in a way very touching as well. My role is just a minor one - but very funny. You never know what David is up to."

Lynch Future Project with Chrysta Bell

Lynch has recently finished writing and recording new songs with female Austin, TX based song artist Chrysta Bell (http://www.chrystabell.com/). According to sources they are now shopping for a record deal. On Chrystas website, she describes her work with David as "haunting and mysterious, lush and passionate". There is an amazing clip of Chrysta with Dutch Rall on the Dutch Rall Official Website site  (http://www.dutchrall.com/symphomania/listen.html)that is simply breathtaking.

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
It's a strange time here at Ain't It Cool News. I know I feel blessed each and every day right now, and in the oddest ways possible. David Lynch shot a film at my house last month. I'm getting ready to walk out the door to fly overseas for the first time ever thanks to Knowles.

now whether thats a short film or part of some ultra mysterious project we've never heard of, who knows?  BUT it means he's using a camera and thats always good!

He's actually been using a camera a lot. If any of you are members of his website davidlynch.com, you could see all sorts of short films he's done that are totally equal to his feature films in my opinion. They are brilliant. Specifically the short films A Darkened Room, Boat, and the original series Rabbits. He also has a lot of neat little experiments on there that are cool to watch but every once in a while there will be a short film on there that just blows me away.

Also, I talk to David all the time on the site we ask him just about everyday when he will make another feature film. lol! He says he doesn't have any feature film ideas at the moment but he'll keep us posted.

I'm pretty sure the project mentioned above is another short film he is working on for his website. Can't wait to see it.

New Lynch Film in the Works?
Source: LynchNet

The October 28 issue of Australia's Herald Sun newspaper features an interview with actor Kick Gurry (Garage Days, Buffalo Soldiers) where, amongst other things, he mentions he's going to be in a new "renegade-style" David Lynch film. No other details are given, so it's hard to say if this is really a new film or another web short. So don't take this as a confirmation of a new Lynch film, but it's certainly a positive sign.

Does David Lynch Have A New Feature Film In The Works?
Source: Playlist

Granted, it's pretty thin gruel but we'll take what we can get from David Lynch who hasn't made a film since 2006's "Inland Empire" and has lately embarked on an ill-advised music career.

That latter point would explain why he recently took time out of his schedule to chat with Rolling Stone (via The Film Stage) where Lynch revealed in his own mysterious way that he might have another new film in the works. "I'm working on a documentary of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, I just took part in a documentary of a 16-country tour I did on meditation, consciousness, and peace. And I'm working on another new film, but it's not there yet. I just finished a one-minute film for the Austrians. They have a festival in Vienna called Viennale," Lynch told the magazine. So let's break this down shall we?

The documentary is actually something Lynch has been talking up for a couple of years now. It was originally planned to shoot in India but it appears the the scope has expanded considerably, but since we have little to zero interest in transcendental meditation, a film about Maharishi Mahesh Yogi—even if directed by Lynch—doesn't particularly excite us. As for the one-minute film, that seems to be something new but again, its another sidetrack from Lynch doing a feature. Nor is it the first time he's done a ridiculously short film. Back in 2009 he hooked up with folks like Mike Figgis, Gaspar Noe, Harmony Korine, Carlos Reygadas, Abel Ferrara, Larry Clark, Kenneth Anger and Sergei Bodrov for "OneDreamRush" an omnibus of forty two directors making forty-two second long films. You can watch Lynch's entry "Dream #7" right here.

So what could this new film be? Lord only knows. Lynch has a long list of stuff that never got made and in recent years there have been rumblings of a children's film "Snootworld" as well as "Mulholland Drive 2." Whether it's either of those or something new remains to be seen, so we'll continue to patiently await whatever Lynch is cooking up. And oh yeah, in case you were wondering, his "Mulholland Drive" inspired nightclub "Silencio" has just opened in Paris. It looks positively normal.

i don't care how much of a has-been lynch is, or a fraud the mahareshi mahesh yogi is.. this statement above from the playlist is more arrogant and idiotic than the two of them put together. my GOD. i actually came here to rant about how stupid lynch must be to have spent years following the yogi closely and doing this documentary and STILL believing in his cult but the playlist has really stolen the show.

so one day "they" all got together and decided that they had no interest at all in transcendental meditation and so have written off this potentially revealing documentary? did "they" all go to a TM facility and like, take a few free courses, and then "en masse" refuse to cough up the dough for the personal mantras and higher levels?

it's actually ironic, truly. because if the playlist really is a single entity made of many elitest hype-loving like-minds, then they should be ALL into the possibilites that TM will allow them. they'll FINALLY be able to become one with each other and everything more.. or worse, actually, they must be afraid that it will enable them to separate from the Playlist-Mind-Blob and pursue their own bliss. that's what lynch is always talking about, follow your bliss. god forbid that one unit of the PMB should separate and think for itself.. or maybe realise that it doesn't want to be spoken of as a general entity but as an individual!  free modage!

TM is a piece of crap made explicit after the beatles gave it up, the mahesh yogi was a fraud and wanted to fuck mia farrow. what more is there to say. the schools brought up practicing it have covered up some violent crimes by its own students. the idea that meditation centres at stategically located places in the world will reduce the crime rate of the surrounding area is ludicrous and anything that sounds like this does not warrant mention outside a QUACK pseudo-science film (http://youtu.be/VT50SV3W5K0).

but above all this, the playlist is the bigger douche.

Lynch's 1 minute trailer for the Viennale:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DezEGKp5U3M

It's depressing, and will only fuel those who believe Lynch has lost it. I actually adore INLAND EMPIRE and some of what it was able to do digitally, but - while a 1-min thing was never going to be something serious - this is some egregious shit, and can't help but make you worry for his future. It looks like a particularly incompetent spoof of 'Lynchian'.

Well, that... surprises me.

Did you love it as comedy? As in - as a silly, off-the-cuff improvisatory short humour film? Because that would seem to be the only possible way in which it could work, and for me it didn't fly on that either.

But I don't think this deserves such an oblique response. Normally, of course, Lynch is brilliant at blurring all the boundaries separating absurdity and parody from pain and seriousness; but here the imagery, photography, and overall tone put me far too much in the mind of Mirror / Father / Mirror (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OY0FvhypaY) territory.

I don't understand if this is actually a trailer for a feature or just a short pretending to be a trailer. If that's the case, every time I see a Lynch short is completely forgettable and there's no real point in taking it seriously.

NYTimes reveals that Lynch is working on a new script. It's hidden in this long-ass article about T.M. (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/24/magazine/david-lynch-transcendental-meditation.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&smid=tw-nytmovies&pagewanted=all)

"A few months later, I reached Lynch by phone at his hotel room in Paris. Bob Roth had told me that Lynch said he was working on a new script and that it was typically dark. When I asked Lynch about this, he paused, annoyed. "Bobby's got a big mouth," he said. I asked him if the script was influenced by his work with T.M., and he said no, absolutely not. This will be a David Lynch picture, he said, adding, "I think people would probably recognize it.""

David Lynch Considering Return To Television

23 years ago, on April 8 1990, David Lynch and Mark Frost shook up the world with the brilliant series premiere of Twin Peaks. Today, David Lynch revealed that he's considering a return to the medium of TV.

On the occasion of attending the 5th International Thriller Film Festival in Beaune, France (April 3-7, 2013) as guest of honor, the director gave an interview to the free daily newspaper, Metro France, in which he explained that he hasn't fallen in love with an idea for a new movie yet, but that he is considering a return to television. From today's edition:

Jerome Vermelin (for Metro France): You could come back with a new series?

David Lynch: I'm thinking about it. I'm thinking about it. Television allows you to tell a story over time, something cinema doesn't. For me, the two formats will always exist, it's like painting in a square or rectangular.

HBO, Showtime, Netflix, AMC, and others... now's the time for your people to talk to his people. And Mark Frost's people. Not necessarily about a third season of Twin Peaks, but about something only this sublime tandem can create.

I think he meant to distinguish the option, and for that matter, not everyone. I still have a square television, with cathodic rays. I never liked LCD, for pc's or television - I really love the resulting color in the cathodic ray system.

ya i know, but the charm in the statement is the double entendre; which doesn't really apply anymore.

Just when you were beginning to think the ice bucket challenge was over, david lynch puts out the best one yet

.. The kicker wouldve been if he wore one of his signature white shirts, though.

David Lynch Says He'll Never Make Another Movie Again
via The Playlist

We're now a little over two weeks from Lynch's return: the filmmaker has revived the cult TV show "Twin Peaks" he created with Mark Frost for Showtime, and directed all 18 hours of it, almost doubling Lynch's total output across his career to date. But the great news comes with a bad news: Lynch, in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, says he'll never make another movie again.

"Things changed a lot," Lynch says of the later years of his career. "So many films were not doing well at the box office even though they might have been great films and the things that were doing well at the box office weren't the things that I would want to do." When pressed if that means "Inland Empire" is his last movie, Lynch replies "yes, it is." This is obviously, a huge bummer, if not necessarily a surprise: the helmer had essentially retired from filmmaking (http://theplaylist.net/david-lynch-says-cable-television-new-arthouse-20160922/) before the "Twin Peaks" revival, and we guess that we'll keep our fingers crossed that Lynch might change his mind again, particularly if the right financing fell into his lap. Poor excuse. Netflix is buying everything these days. They'd certainly buy a David Lynch movie.

Incorrigible scamp David Lynch teases that he might not be done with movies

http://www.avclub.com/article/incorrigible-scamp-david-lynch-teases-he-might-not-255981

Everyone knows that David Lynch is done with making films, but what the latest news from the Cannes Film Festival presupposes is, maybe he isn't?

As reported by the fan site Welcome To Twin Peaks, the 71-year old American master, who was implying that 2006's self-financed Inland Empire was his last feature film as recently as three weeks ago, has decided to renegotiate the public terms of his retirement from the big screen. In an interview with the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, Lynch—who was at Cannes to present the first two episodes of his uncompromising revival of Twin Peaks—stated that some of his remarks about being done with film "have been misrepresented."

Considering that said remarks have included answering "Yes, it is," to the question of whether he had made his final feature, we'll chalk this "misrepresented" business to bit of politician-style backpedaling on the part of the usually plainspoken director, who clarified, "I did not say I quit cinema. Simply that nobody knows what the future holds." So there you have it. That's as close to a definitive answer as you're going to get from Lynch or from any of his work.

Given his visibly emotional response to the standing ovation he received at Cannes earlier this week, maybe he's just realized how much he misses this stupid business and wants to leave possibilities open. Or maybe it doesn't mean anything at all.

I don't buy anything any director says on what their future will entail, especially in such an conclusive fashion.
