Farrelly Bros. Three Stooges Feature Film Greenlit
Source: Variety

Peter and Bobby Farrelly's revisiting of the Three Stooges films has been officially greenlit at Warner Bros. The Three Stooges is expected to start shooting early next year for a summer 2005 release.

The new movie will be an adventure that revolves around the Stooges characters originated by Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Jerome "Curly" Howard in the classic Columbia Picture films.

Sony originally had the feature rights to the project but let them exmpire, allowing Warner Bros. to step in. The Farrellys spent last winter and spring writing with Mike Cerrone a contemporized script featuring the Moe, Larry and Curly characters.

Farrelly Bros. Eyeing Del Toro for Three Stooges?
Source: The Boston Herald, IGN Filmforce

Last week it was announced that Peter and Bobby Farrelly's revisiting of the Three Stooges films had been officially greenlit at Warner Bros. The Three Stooges is expected to start shooting early next year for a summer 2005 release. The new movie will be an adventure that revolves around the Stooges characters originated by Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Jerome "Curly" Howard in the classic Columbia Picture films.

Now, The Boston Herald has potential casting news for the film.

And speaking of the Farrellys, we told you months ago that Peter and Bobby are working on a big screen homage to the "Three Stooges." But did you know the silly sibs pine for Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro to play either Moe, Larry or Curly in the flick they're writing for Warner Bros.? Who knew Benicio was a regular laugh riot? Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...

I think those guys hit the wall after 'Mary.'  Their first 3 films got progressively better, but goddamn, the last 2 were so bad I doubt I'll ever see anything by them anytime soon-- and that piece of shit 'Outside Providence' they wrote/produced.  Holy God.  They need to be stopped.

Aren't they getting Al Pacino for something? I swear I read that somewhere. In Empire maybe.

If true...sad sad sad.

Uh, what didn't you like about Outside Providence?  You didn't laugh your ass off at some parts?  Granted, the romantic thread was kinda weak (why would a knockout like that go for "Dildo") but overall I thought it was an uplifting coming-of-age story with many comic moments.

No, I didn't laugh at any of it.  George Wendt being gay?  Ugh.  Thought it was horribly directed (Michael Corrente, hack-job extraordinairre-- he made American Buffalo crap for God's sake) and that douche who's the lead is just awful.  Glad to see he's not working anymore.

Farrelly Bros. Want Crowe for The Three Stooges
Source: The Herald Sun

Russell Crowe could play Moe Howard in his next movie, The Three Stooges.

Hollywood directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly are in the planning stage of production.

"We would like to get Russell Crowe for Moe," said Peter Farrelly. "He is the perfect Moe. He hasn't done a big comedy and the movie is basically The Stooges are back in the present day, there is no time machine taking you back."

"We are big fans . . . so we think it would be fun to work with him."

They have yet to approach Crowe.

"We just go through a process of throwing around a bunch of ideas and he has been somebody that we have been wanting to work with for a long time."

Kingpin is their masterpiece, Mary wasn't as funny as everyone made it out to be, and Irene was much funnier than everyone though it was.

But how can the same guys who made those gems make a movie in which Jack Black is not funny at all?

It's 'play ball' for Strickland, Skye in 'Pitch'
Source: Hollywood Reporter

KaDee Strickland, one of the stars of "Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid," and Ione Skye are signing on to play opposite Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon in "Fever Pitch," Fox 2000's Farrelly brothers movie. The project is based on British author Nick Hornby's book, described as an autobiography and a soccer bible rolled into one. The comedy writing team of Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel adapted "Pitch" and Americanized it so that the project focuses on baseball. The story line follows Fallon as a man obsessed with the Boston Red Sox and Barrymore as a woman caught in the middle. Strickland and Skye would play Barrymore's best friends.

'Fever Pitch' Gets World Series Footage

*SPOILERS -- I GUESS*

Your eyes weren't playing tricks on you. That really was Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore making out on the field as the Boston Red Sox celebrated their first World Series victory since 1918.

In a case of art imitating life, the stars of the upcoming Farrelly brothers movie "Fever Pitch" were shooting a new happy ending, which has been cobbled together furiously in the wake of the Sox' historic run to the world championship.

So as Curt Schilling, Kevin Millar, Jason Varitek and the rest of the players swarmed the infield at St. Louis' Busch Stadium Wednesday night after the Sox' four-game sweep of the Cardinals, Fallon and Barrymore were in the middle of the madness, with the Farrellys' camera following them.

Brothers Peter and Bobby, who are directing the movie about a Red Sox fan who's torn between the woman he loves and the baseball team he worships, realized they needed a different ending once the Sox came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the New York Yankees in the American League championship series last week.

"Until then, we didn't allow ourselves to dream that it could happen," Bobby Farrelly said Friday by phone from Toronto, where the rest of "Fever Pitch" is being shot. "You know how superstitious everyone is in Boston. We felt like if we started writing before that, we'd jinx them."

The Farrellys, lifelong Sox fans from Cumberland, R.I., who spent two weeks shooting at Fenway Park last month, asked screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel to tweak the script to make it about a winning team.

"It works brilliantly at the end," Bobby Farrelly said. "We didn't want to try to fictionalize it, but now it's reality."

The brothers, whose previous movies include "There's Something About Mary" and "Kingpin," scrambled Wednesday to make sure they were filming inside Busch Stadium in case the Sox swept.

Ordinarily, only players and accredited media are allowed on the field a restriction put in place after stars like Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins celebrated in the Mets' locker room and Billy Crystal repeatedly spent time in the Yankees' in 2000. But major league baseball made an exception because of the Farrellys' previous access at Fenway, MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said.

"The first inclination was to make sure they're not directly involved in the action," Courtney said. "You can accomplish both you can have the team celebrating and, in an unobtrusive manner, still enable (the filmmakers) to get what they need."

He added: "At that point, there were so many different groups of media and television in that whole mix, with them off to the side."

Not everyone was satisfied, though.

The Boston Globe's Names section Friday asked major league baseball: "Have you no shame? Why, as the Red Sox deliriously celebrated their first World Series win in 86 years Wednesday, were Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore on the field?"

It continued: "Confused? Appalled? We were, too."

Bobby Farrelly said the criticism doesn't sting.

"It's OK you know why? Now that we won, what are they going to say? The naysayers are going to talk about something, people are used to griping about something. I imagine one or two are going to gripe about that," he said. "Red Sox Nation is going to be very, very happy with what we got, I believe."

Farrellys Keep Faith in Three Stooges
Brothers persist with big screen adaptation.

Prior to taking the helm of the movie Fever Pitch, an opportunity they could not pass on due to their fervent love of the Boston Red Sox, the Farrelly brothers were deeply immersed in another project: bringing the classic Three Stooges to life on the big screen. The brothers had spent over a year working, and reworking (and reworking) the Stooges screenplay. They were as far as casting the movie before they hit a roadblock they're well familiar with: being repelled by studio executives' indifference. The Three Stooges was in stasis, so the brothers jumped over to Fever Pitch. But now they're back on track.

"We're still trying to make The Stooges happen," Peter Farrelly tells IGN FilmForce. "I'll be honest with you, it's been very, very difficult to get that thing made. It's been crazy."

The Farrellys have found themselves up against the studios' belief that there isn't enough of a fan base to make the movie a success. The Three Stooges may be a classic series of films, but executives aren't entirely confident it will fly with today's audience. "Studios have been resistant to The Stooges," says Farrelly. "They're afraid of it. I don't agree with the reasons why, I don't know why they think that, but it doesn't worry me because eventually we are going to make the movie."

Farrelly finds the studios' resistance to a Three Stooges movie all the more baffling due to the fact that everyone he speaks with wants to see the movie made, and many actors have expressed interest. "It's kind of funny because every actor wants to do the movie," says Farrelly. "Benicio Del Toro wanted to play Moe. We've had a lot people talk to us about that movie. And everybody we've talked to has been really interested in the movie. So, it's not a hard movie to cast. It's just that the studios just don't know it it will fly. They just don't know if it will work, and they don't quite get that. They don't get that this is going to be effective."

Speaking from experience, Farrelly adds, "People say to us, 'Did you always want to make movies?' No, we never wanted to make movies. Not until our mid-twenties did we even think of it and that was because we had no jobs. We thought, 'Well, how about writing?' And we were like, 'Alright.' And we'd work and we'd get it done. And you know what? It took us five years to get Dumb and Dumber made, and from inception of the idea to its completion it took everyone five years to get Fever Pitch made, and The Stooges will likely happen. Sometimes things wait for their right time."

Farrellys' Heartbreak
Brothers take over comic remake.

Comedy filmmaking siblings Peter and Bobby Farrelly are getting set to sign a deal to direct The Heartbreak Kid, according to today's Variety.

The DreamWorks-based project is a remake of the 1972 film starring Charles Grodin, Cybill Shepherd, Eddie Albert and Jeannie Berlin, and it's been in development for some time.

The Farrelly brothers (Something About Mary, Fever Pitch) are reportedly in final negotiations to write and direct the redo, which centers around a man who meets the girl of his dreams while on his honeymoon with someone else.

James Bobin (Da Ali G Show) was hired to direct the project in March, but that's obviously fallen through. Arrested Development star Jason Bateman and SNL's Amy Poehler had been set to star, but it's unclear if they'll remain attached.  Barry Sonnenfeld was also previously attached to the project, but dropped out late last year.

Additionally, a script for the new flick was being penned by Scot Armstrong (Starsky & Hutch, Old School) and Leslie Dixon (Pay It Forward, The Thomas Crown Affair, Mrs. Doubtfire). It's unclear if their work will be retooled or scrapped all together.

One of the most down-to-earth actresses around, "Mission: Impossible 3" star Michelle Monaghan, is in talks to join Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Stiller for the next Farrelly Brother's comedy.

"She's red hot in Hollywood right now," Bobby Farrelly, says of the diverse actress, currently filming a role in Ben Affleck's directorial debut "Gone, Baby, Gone". "She's got huge buzz. But we have our fingers crossed."

The film, titled "Itch", reunites Gwyneth Paltrow with her "Shallow Hal" directors, and Stiller with his "There's Something About Mary" helmers. It's a remake of Neil Simon's "The Heartbreak Kid" (starring Cybill Sheppard and Charles Grodin), and stars Stiller as a man who " thinks he's married the girl of his dreams," Farrelly tells The Boston Herald. "She's beautiful, but then, on their honeymoon, he finds out she's nuts."

Enter the wholesome, not-as-glam Monaghan. And Stiller falls in love.

Exclusive: Dumb and Dumber 2 Begins Production This September

Last summer, ComingSoon.net broke the news that Jim Carrey was in discussions with Bobby and Peter Farrelly to develop a sequel to their 1994 film Dumb and Dumber. Then, in October, it was revealed that Sean Anders and John Morris had come aboard to provide the screenplay. Today, at the junket for he and his brother's latest, The Three Stooges, Peter Farrelly says that not only is Dumb and Dumber 2 coming, it's set to begin production later this year.

"We're getting set to shoot 'Dumb and Dumber 2' in September," he says. "It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."

The original Dumb and Dumber represented one of Carrey's breakout comedy roles. The film was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, but Peter Farrelly stresses that this is something very different.

"We did not do 'Dumb and Dumberer,'" he continues. "That was a studio thing. So we've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb and Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

Jeff Daniels was on Ferguson last night and was asked about it. I didn't seem like it's totally over yet. He said he thought it was happening until two days ago and that Jim was upset and had a right to be. He said himself, Jim and the Farrely's all want to do it. Latest Dumb & Dumber sequel update, courtesy of Empire:

Dumb & Dumber 2 Plot Plan Outlined
Bobby Farrelly says it'll shoot in 2013

Though chatter broke in June that Jim Carrey had decided to ditch the Dumb & Dumber sequel, largely because he was concerned the studio wasn't supporting it, no one told Peter and Bobby Farrelly. The directors are still pushing full speed ahead on the film, and Bobby is now talking up the status and plot of the movie.

According to Farrelly, the real sticking point has been the leads' schedules, especially since Jeff Daniels is now committed to shooting the second season of Aaron Sorkin's show The Newsroom. "We were hoping to shoot it very soon - this fall - but that didn't come to pass because of scheduling conflicts. Jeff has a successful TV show over here now so we have to work around that. We are planning on shooting it this coming spring and hopefully it will be out by next fall. That's the plan and that will be our next movie, we've already written the script. We're very anxious to get back in business with those two guys."

So what can we expect from Lloyd Christmas (Carrey, assuming he's still aboard) and Harry Dunne (Daniels) this time around? "I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them and it's 20 years later. The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he's having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys."

From the sounds of it, we'll be getting at least one stupid offspring in the mix. With a script co-written by Bennett Yellin, Sean Anders and John Morris, we may yet see this thing made.

'Dumb And Dumber To' Proves No-Brainer For Universal; Studio Locks Deal For Farrellys, Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels Pic
BY MIKE FLEMING JR | Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures has closed a deal for domestic distribution on Dumb And Dumber To, the sequel to the classic comedy that brings back Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, with Peter and Bobby Farrelly directing their rewrite of the script by Sean Anders and John Morris. Wolf Of Wall Street financier Red Granite is stepping up to finance the $35 million budget film and sell foreign territories. Deadline reported this is how it would likely go after Warner Bros finally stepped away from the project, after hovering over it like a dark cloud since January. That studio will retain a participation stake in the film, but its exit made all this possible.

All this is going down as we speak, and now the scheduling will begin for a movie that will find its way into production very quickly, with Conundrum's Bradley Thomas and The Farrellys producing with Charlie Wessler. The film will be PG-13 like the original, and once again it puts Lloyd (Carrey) and Harry (Daniels) back on a road trip. The urgency has to do with scheduling: Daniels needs to do it soon before returning for his Aaron Sorkin HBO series The Newsroom. Carrey also has that bank heist comedy at Relativity with Jared Hess directing and Owen Wilson co-starring. For physical comedy fans, this is a real win. The package was put together by CAA and WME, and attorneys Cindy Farrelly Gesner and Peter Grossman repped the Conundrum troika.
