After stepping in, he walks in a circle throughout the room; dropping his case on the bed, dropping his jacket on the desk, setting his hat down, turning on a light, etc.  During this, we see that he's really made the room his own, suggesting that he lives there.  There are some posters on the wall, etc.  Once he makes the full circle, he stops at his case on the bed.  He opens it, takes out a gun, looks at it, aims near the camera and says "bang".

another boogie nights circle, eh?

i'm curious as to how you've arranged to get a motel to shoot in and around, locations are hard to get these days unless you're a fast talker.  like me.

most clerks are relatively clueless as to what their policies for filming inside their stores are...its the managers you have to watch out for

Actually with both I got the managers consent.  I was pretty damn happy.
