(Boys, I'm taking credit for this one, as I wrote to Larry back in August of 2017 suggesting this would be a perfect film for this series.  He wrote back in agreement.)

I don't know which is more interesting:  That the New Beverly is running "Magnolia" on April EIGHT at TWO pm deliberately, or co-incidentally.

There was a fabulous screening of BOOGIE NIGHTS last night at one of the old, mind-blowingly ornate theaters on Broadway in downtown L.A.  (The "United Artists" theater was opened by Fairbanks, Pickford, Chaplin and Griffith in the 20's I believe.

An enthusiastic, close-to-sellout crowd responded beautifully (and appropriately) to every moment. From the gasps, it sounded like there were more than a few first-timers.   A lovely DCP print (they have no film capabilities there), added to the enjoyment.

Some special guests for a Q&A afterwards included Costume Designer Mark Bridges and Producer JoAnne Sellar.  (The conversation was recorded for a local NPR station; I'll post a link next week.)

Editor Dylan Tichenor was also in the audience.  I sat next to a woman who said she repped Philip Seymour Hoffman and Don Cheadle back in the day.  Sources tell me that PTA and Maya were out of town (yesterday was Maya's birthday), and consequently wouldn't be there.

A couple of bonuses:  John C. Reilly apparently recorded a "don't be a dick; silence your gizmos" recording that they ran before the show started.  I also had an opportunity to approach both Dylan and JoAnne after the screening, introduce myself, and ask if they'd be willing to speak with me for my "Making of..." project.

I understand that Xixaxer @modage was in attendance, but we didn't connect (again).  (Short of setting myself on fire, I've done all I can.)   I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and was quite relieved to have this evening exceed my expectations.  (You'll recall last weekend's screening did not!)

What's the making of project? Are you making a docu-series on Boogie Nights?
