Being one of my favorite bands of all time, Ben Folds captures every emotion and really conveys it through his material.
Plus he just down right kicks ass.
yeah
gotta say that i think its so fucking cheesy putting " anyone" after a singers name in a post, i know its some sort of tradition but it urks me, it makes me feel like i am at some uptight dinner party and some grovvy sensitive pony tail guy is telling us
" Miles davis anyone"
but to answer your post, i think he has a good sense of humor and at times he could be great, and he wrote the at the prom song from not another teen movie
and he sang the imortal line
" I just jerked off in your french toast !!!!!!!!"

Haha! I always imagine people's avatars saying what their post is saying, so that's even better
i am a big fan of ben folds, and will be seeing him with tori amos this summer.
He's okay. I wish his stuff had more bite. He seems clever enough to pull it off. He should listen to some punk rock.
i like his solo album better than his work with "the five". ANNIE WAITS is my favorite.
It's just too bad he had to die in that car accident
*(realizing this is the worst day of my life)
no wait, I always confuse Ben Folds with The Strokes (all of them).
They're dead
atleast i still have my favorite band, The Beatles. when are they coming out with another album anyways? how long has it been?
Quote from: godardianHe should listen to some punk rock.
that quote alone would make the architechts of punk depressed that they created it
what the fuck, do you just go to the store and say " say i was wondering if you carry any punk rock "
" why yes we do, here try on some mission of burma and if that doesnt fit here is some The germs "
It has only been a week, please pay attention to music news

if the 'store', doesnt carry any, just go to a dinner party and ask the guy with the sensitive ponytail to put on some punk rock after the miles davis.

he does, he plays lots of pere ubu
This is not gonna turn into a slow burn on Miles is it? Gotta love the man who was coked out of his skull and went and mainstreamed improv jazz, then did it all again with fusion. Yeah.

NO i love miles, i am making fun of artsy liberal who listen to him
i wrote this whole bit in my last post about miles chocking the sensitive pony tail guy but i took it out because i thought i was posting to many negitive posts
this is just weird, i swear
this is so fucking funny , have you ever read his autobiography
No, what's it called?
I wanna pick up the SNL book you guys were talking about before, too. Maybe this weekend will be a book buying weekend...
the SNL book is really interesting. LIVE FROM NEW YORK (is that what you're talking about?) i read it in a few days after i got it for christmas.
Yeah, that's the one. What's the Miles one called?
Oh, Walrus, sorry.... I've never listened to Ben Folds, so I can't offer an opinion.
Quote from: SoNowThenYeah, that's the one. What's the Miles one called?

i think its just miles davis , its a auto biography
he talks about pussy just as much as i do, and the storys are great
i have some cool miles storys
did you know that before he died keaunu reeves did heroin with him, and also before he died he loved pauls boutique by the beastie boys
the keaunu reeves thing i read that once, but afterwards i looked for more info on it and couldnt find it, but how cool would that be to get high with one of the great men of all time, but ya know as long as you are not sharing a needle
and pauls boutique is one of the greatest albums ever made, by a band that went to shit right after they made it
the SNL book is really good, except eddie murphy did not contribute and well that is a huge void
but they do exnowledge that he is one of the best performers ever on the show
yeah. it was really weird he was like the only one (still alive) that didnt participate. they just kept talking ABOUT him. it would have been really nice to get his insight into the whole thing.
Thank you for ruining this thread Alguien, it reminds of that other one you posted in...
As for Ben Folds, I think he's very talented, I like his album a lot, though I don't own it, just borrowed from a friend. Probably why I didn't even know he had been in a band before

O Canada!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

eddie is bitter about SNL, most people are after they leave
but eddie thinks that he saved the show from being cancelled ( which he did) so he deserves better
and the final straw was david spade calling him a falling star on one of those celeb news skits he did
that really pissed him off, and well to bad for us
but someday eddie needs a proper biography so people know that he is just not dr dolttle, what he is in fact is the best stand up comic ever
and one of the best SNL Cast members ever
yeah, Raw is truly one of the most brilliant pieces of stand-up ever.
And the Mr Robinson stuff, and Velvet Jones, and Gumbi... fucking classic.

Even ben folds himself would agree , see i can stay on topic
no , no i cant my mind has its own laws of reason
at any moment this could turn into a post about " into the groove" by madonna , such a fine song
Rockin' the Suburbs is fucking wondrous. His stuff with "the five" is better.

Or some Morrissey (and
pay attention this time, Ben!). Get a few good Smiths/Morrissey albums, you eliminate the need for 75% of your standing record collection. Guaranteed. Especially on the Ben Folds front. Morrissey's funnier, sadder, AND more clever.

did you just quote yourself ?
Really like Ben Folds. I think his stuff with the band was better: it had more energy.
Anyone heard/like Fear Of Pop (Ben's piss-take electronica/funk/monologue album)? William Shatner performs one of my favourite songs of all time on that record.
I prefer the solo album. It has so many great songs....Annie Waits, The Ascent Of Stan...and then The Luckiest, which is just so beautifully sincere. Listening to his music makes me want to get better at the piano...while simultaneously making me think "Why bother?" because he's just so darn good.
Oh yeah, the solo album's great, but there's someting about the production of it: it sounds so smooth, as if every little bump and quirk has been ironed out. The songs are generally still great, but Ben Folds Five's albums had a slightly more live, energetic feel about them to me. And most of my favourite songs he's written are on the older albums: Philosophy, Underground, Evaporated, Smoke, Narcolepsy, Song For The Dumped... ahh: too many to name. However: Still Fighting It, from Rockin', = one of the best songs ever (that = slight overstatement for dramatic effect).

I'm gonna get my ass kicked for saying something like this on the playground, but we played "The Luckiest" at our wedding. It's a great fucking song.
(for the record, we also played "Anyway you want it" by Journey)
I agree, the solo stuff is prime.
Quote from: RegularKaratewe played "The Luckiest" at our wedding.
That's beautiful, man!

no i think thats kind of cool, there are other things in this world worthy of ridicule
I'm glad we got off that Miles Davis and SNL tangeant for a second.
(Of course when I say 'Got off that Miles Davis' anything you'd auotmatically presume trouble...or quite a weekend.)
And that's enough to kill a thread 2 months old.

Couldn't find any Radiohead wedding songs? :(

"Punch up at a Wedding" wasn't available at the time.
We really did go through a lot of music to decide what we used where... Radiohead just make the cut. Not because we don't like radiohead, because we love them (it took me a couple years to convince her how good they were), but you know...
Thought I'd ressurect this sumbitch by saying that I had 80 some Ben Folds songs, and recently found out i'm missing a whole bunch more. Does anyone know when the new CD comes out?
Sometime in early 2004. iTunes has his Sunny 16 and Speed Graphic EP's for $3.99 and $4.99. Nine songs. Nine good songs. If you like BF5 you'll certainly like them because they're in the band setting and have the old pep to them.
Personally, my favorite is his solo live performances. Ben Folds Live was just about as perfects as a CD can get.
Thanks for the info...
And I agree, I love Ben Folds Live, especially the newer version of Emaline.
You guys got me all excited about Ben Folds again.
I had gone a few months without a listen... I just bought the Speed Graphic EP from ITunes..... couldn't help myself... first purchase from them.

how does it work? reliable? fast?
I know, there has been a ben folds explosion here lately...saw him a few times, but I am thinking a need to start listening to more of him cause I only know five's first few albums...
has anyone heard The Bens EP? has this already been discussed? ben folds, ben kweller, ben lee. four songs? anybody?

iTunes is absolutely the best MP3 library system and purchasing system there is. Period. Downloading is quick, easy, and they place it in your library and "Purchased Music" folder so you can find it. Also, the streaming radio stations are heaven. No buffering whatsoever. Free program too.
I just bought an an iPod for my wife and was surprised how great the iTunes program was.
Yeah... I've been a long time fan of ITunes (I'm almost jealous PC users get to use it now).
The purchase was fast as shit... once you're signed up, they have your card number, you just click click and it zooms into your library... all five songs took about a minute to fully download, but once song one is done (about 15 secs on dsl) you can start listening.
The sound quality is really good too. They're making it way too easy for me to spend my money. I'm usually pretty cheap.
I've got both Speed Graphic and Sunny 16. They're good, but the production on them is really thin. Just in the sense that there's not a lot of polish to it. It's really raw. Ben and some guys on instruments.
I'm a little more of a fan of his more fully produced stuff (Rockin the Suburbs was phenomenal).
To me, Ben Folds is like sex. When it's good, it's mindblowingly good, and when it's bad, it's still pretty damn great.
cool...I am a itunes and quicktime whore already, amazing the hours of time you can waste on it, when supposly working. So when they released it for PC's I quick integrated my system at home over. Funny thing is, I had an itunes skin on my windowmedia player..
I have never tried buying anything from them tho, so the info is greatly apprieciated.
I hear ya Raikus, I love the streams they have on there, listen to them all the time while working.
