Their third record Twin Cinema will be released in stores August 23.  Matador Records has a pre-sale going on so you get a free 7".  The disc is $10 (Cheap!) plus 3 for shipping so I suggest any of you who like this band and want to purchase it go over there.

I know, it's on the way in the mail; just got the shipping email.  Can't wait!  going to see them twice in sept! i'm excited.

Figure 8

I got a leaked copy of this cd a while back.  It's really, really great.  They're coming here in September!

The new album is far better then the two previous. It's not as cacthy as 'the electric version' but maybe that's the strenght - it lasts longer.

My head is bursting from the musical extravaganza that is occurring inside me.  This album is everything I could ever want from them, and more.  They really have created something special here.  can't wait to see it live.

No matter how immune you consider yourself to snappy pop hooks, grandiose supergroup pileups, or giddy, sing-along choruses, denying the smarts of The New Pornographers is almost impossible.

sample the albums 3rd best track:

yes, the rumors are true!  i have a new FAVORITE ALBUM OF THE YEAR.  i've had this for a few months and have probably heard it over 100 times.  i cannot stop listening to it, and you all must hear it.  admittedly, this album is not going to change the world.  this is not okcomputer, but this is the goddamn catchiest thing you're bound to hear all year and you will listen to it a thousand times.  it refuses to get old.

Pitchfork: 9.0
Rolling Stone: 4 Stars
Entertainment Weekly: A
Spin: A-

Shaftr, this is for you.  you KNOW in your heart that weezer sucks now but you have no alternatives, NOW you do.  you will put weezer safely in a shoebox where it belongs when you realize that power pop can have emotion AND be smart!  (And you twitch in your seat /'Cause you wanna hit the street / When you're on drugs)

or steal the album yourself:

i advise everyone here to atleast listen to The Bleeding Heart Show, Star Bodies and Use It.  i look forward to hearing what everyone thinks so let me have it!  this just came out today and is currently 9.99 at Best Buy or the same as mentioned above.  do yourself a favor and discover something awesome and new.

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

why is everybody talking about the new pornographers like they are new? why was nobody going apeshit when the electric version came out?

i was! I just feel like they should be on top of the world right now--way ahead of death cab and the killers anyway. A lot of people in the indie world still don't know about them.  I just think they are light years ahead musically, and should be appreciated now instead of far from now.

No one here is claiming that they're new or that they've just now heard of them.  I was gonna post about the pre-order offer and realized there was no thread which means you never went apeshit over EV here either.

did i ever say i was talking about xixax? it was a direct response to modage's post, where he posted links to various reviews praising the album. in my opinion, their album the electric version is as good as the new one, and should have gotten this amount of praise as well

and before you go and try to post a link to a pitchfork review of their last album, i know they got good reviews, but nothing like the stuff they are getting now

GoneSavage

Fair enough.  I still haven't heard this one since it hasn't been sent yet.  I think sometimes bands like this benefit from the slow build of word of mouth and now that people have been talking about their great previous efforts, their newest record is just gonna be given high marks.  And don't worry, I would never post anything off of Pitchfork here.

Slick Shoes

i picked up twin cinema earlier today, on my lunch break -- my intro to the band. have listened to the first half twice so far. first listen felt lukewarm towards it. grew tremendously on second listen, once melodies were familiar. i expect to be able to get into it a fair amount. i've always had an affinity for jangly pop stuff like this.

also, anybody in the l.a. area can see them for free tomorrow, 7pm, at tower on sunset. be there!

yeah, i found out you have to buy the album to get a wristband, which allows you to see them, i think.  I don't mind buying the album a second time, since I get to seem and all, and they're a lot of fun live.  You can get the album signed, so thats pretty cool.
