Phoenix playing 1 of 2 US shows in NYC.
AND
Passion Pit playing 2 shows in NYC.
OR
10 Year High School Reunion.
AND
My dad's 80's band's reunion show.

follow-up.  Phoenix scheduled a whole US tour, incl. a date at a smaller venue in brooklyn (the night before i have to leave town) to which i now have tickets.  so 3 out of 4.  yay.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

Passion Pit is playing a show ON A BOAT in a few weeks here and I got tickets to that too.  So 4 out of 4, dilemma officially resolved.

Holy shit! That's a fucking dilemma?

Coen Brothers all the way.

Relative merit of Coppola's films aside, SHE'S FUCKING BORING.

Maybe every day is Saturday morning.

A few extra factors:

Somewhere would be with my gf.  True Grit would be with my boss.

I've met Coens before, never met Sofia.

True Grit will be released wide on Dec 22, Somewhere will be "limited".  So I'll def be able to see TG in Virginia when I'm home for the holidays but might not be able to see Somewhere till a week later.

Easiest decision ever. Somewhere wit your girl. It's a panty dropper movie. The type of flick that will make her feel vulnerable and later that night you can probably talk her into doing things she's never done before. Be careful tho, with the subject matter it may make her want to have a kid.

True Grit is sort of an alpha-male movie and you don't want to see that with your superior. Don't ever see an alpha-male movie with someone who has power over you.

What would have been really interesting is if it was the other way around. True Grit with your girl or Somewhere with your boss. haha, can you imagine? CAN YOU IMAGINE?
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

Yeah, alright... I'm with Stefen... Somewhere by a margin.  Although, after that explanation, my mental image of Stefan will forever be Jason Patric's character  in Your Friends & Neighbors.

If Maxim still exists, Stefen should totally write for Maxim. Is there an equivalent of Maxim where the writers actually care about good shit? Stefen should write for that.

that post was something else. Right there with John, write somewhere I can buy and store that shit. Or write a fucking book (or John Cusack movie)

I have a ticket to go see John Carpenter perform some of his most well known scores live, I don't know if there will be a visual component or not. The problem is, it starts in about an hour and I'm really sick. There isn't a single bone in my body that wants to go, which should be a testament to how sick I am. This event is like a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Carpenter in the flesh and actually watch him at work, not just introducing a movie and doing a Q&A afterwards. I don't know if he'll be doing this kind of tour again and I don't think he will be with us much longer, but I just feel like complete shit. I don't want to be around people and I especially don't want to pass this on to anyone. It sucks, but I'm just gonna have to take the hit and sit this one out. GODDAMN, it sucks!
