I don't mean to sound completely ignorant, but I haven't seen Battle of Algiers (I plan on it) but what exactly is the connection between it and Boogie Nights? Somehow a film about, well, the Battle at Algiers and one about the porn industry in the 70's and 80's seem as disconnected as two films can be.

shit. i just realized that i forgot to reply to that PM about meeting up with you guys.

It was pretty cool overall. Like matt said, not a whole lot that you probably haven't heard/read somewhere else prior, except for the details about how he writes. He mentioned several times that he "practices" writing, just to keep himself sharp. He says that sometimes he'll watch a movie and then later that night he'll sit down and try to write one of the scenes in script form just to see how he would write it. Or sometimes he'll just sit down and start writing nonsense dialogue between two characters just to see how he can make it develop.

I hated that crowd though. Everyone seemed really god damned cocky and snobbish. Especially whoever the hell kept scoffing everytime someone would introduce themselves "Hello, I'm _____, and I am a writer/director/filmaker..."

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

He looks very Brokeback Mountainish.  Did he mention that movie?  Wait, I'm not gonna actually post this.

When asked what he thought should have won Best Picture, he said he voted for Capote.  There was no mention of Brokeback.

Yes.

PTA ended up signing one shoe and drawing a nice little heart and arrow on the other.  (I was kinda lingering around all throughout the signing)

*One possibly psychotic attendee went up to the mic, threw his leather jacket to the ground, and proceeded to mumble incoherently about the "giant cock" in "Boogie Nights."  PTA, like the rest of us, looked a little perplexed.  The guy finally got around to asking PTA's opinion about digital vs. film, to which he replied that film will always be around, but that he enjoyed M. Mann's work in "Collateral."  He also mentioned a scene in "Collateral" which he thought was the "stupidest fucking moment" in the film, though I can't remember what it was (someone help me out here).

The scene with the coyote running by.

so he's the only dude in hollywood allowed to use animals to create metaphors? the stupidest fucking moment in collateral is the whole ending thing.
context, context, context.
