In the most recent New York Times Review of Books, Richard Schickel reviewed a biography of Sidney Poitier.  In the "about the reviewer" mini-bio, it stated that Schickel is working on a film about Martin Scorsese.  Since Schickel put together the Charlie Chaplin DVD box set, this leads me to believe he is performing the same duty for a Scorsese box set.  If the foregoing is true, then it is reasonable to surmise that SE's of Mean Streets, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, After Hours and GoodFellas are headed down the pipeline, perhaps in time to coincide with the theatrical premiere of The Aviator.

Release Date: August 17th

(From Another post)

From what I gather, Warners has a habit of sometimes releasing promo DVD art designed to look like keepcases, even though the eventual release will still be a snapper. Rest assured that unless a title is a 2-disc or more affair, it will be in a snapper. GoodFellas will probably in the usual Warner 2-disc slipcase/digipak packaging.

The full specs, courtesy of DVD Times:

GoodFellas (Two-Disc Special Edition) - Based on the true-life best seller "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi Scorsese's movie explores the criminal life like no other and will offer the following features on this two-disc special edition set...

We've just gotten the official word from MGM that their Martin Scorsese Film Collection, which had previously been announced for 12/14 (but was then delayed indefinitely) has been re-announced for release on 2/8/05. The set will include the New York, New York: Special Edition, a new, 2-disc Raging Bull: Collector's Edition, the previously released The Last Waltz: Special Edition and Boxcar Bertha. The New York, New York: Special Edition will be presented in 1.66:1 letterboxed widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 and mono audio (SRP $19.98 separately). Extras will include audio commentary, alternate takes, deleted scenes, a photo gallery, and the film's theatrical and teaser trailers. The Raging Bull: Collector's Edition will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 surround audio (SRP $29.98 separately). Extras will include audio commentary by Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker, a separate cast and crew commentary, a "storytellers" commentary, 3 documentaries (including Before the Fight: The Writing and Casting of Raging Bull, Inside the Ring: The Making of Raging Bull and The Bronx Bull), 3 featurettes (After the Fight: Creating a Classic, La Motta Defends Title and De Niro vs. La Motta) and the theatrical trailer. The Last Waltz: Special Edition is the same disc that was previously released by MGM. Boxcar Bertha is also the same disc as previously released.
