I used to work at the theater where George Lucas goes. He was there almost every week. My first week at the job I was serving popcorn when I saw him. I panicked, dropped the bag of popcorn, pointed straight at him and said "it's George Lucas". I was a little too embarrassed to talk to him after that.

Another time Sean Penn took his kids to see a movie. He basically dropped them off and then sat in the lobby through the entire time.

I shook Jackie Chan's hand when he came to Target a few years ago to sign his latest book.  My communications major studies teacher in 11th and 12th grades used to write for some TV shows in the 80s, including The A-Team and L.A. Law.  The director Istvan Szabo (Mephisto, Sunshine) came to my university in February when they were showing a few of his films, and I talked to him for a little bit.

Interesting story about my teacher who was a writer.  He met with Michael Mann sometime in the 80s when he was doing Miami Vice, and he told Mann that he read an early draft of his script for Red Dragon (Manhunter) and Mann got pissed off because he didn't know copies of the script were floating around.  My teacher showed me a bound copy of the script, with "Red Dragon" on the cover page.

When I worked as an office PA, it was for a TV movie that starred Martin Landau. The offices were at the top floor in the old building on Hollywood and Vine. One night when my shift was done, I got into the elevator and wasn't really paying attention. Someone said, "Wow these elevators are really old" because they creaked when going down. I said, "That's because the have squirrels up there turning the wheels." Small laughter. When I turned around, I found out it was Mr. Landau himself. I knew he was heading the same way to the parking lot, so I walked with him. He was staring at the stars along the boulevard and commented about how many greats there were, when we came upon Cary Grant's star. I said, "I know you worked with him, what was he like?" (The two were in "North By Northwest" together) Mr. Landau seemed a bit shocked, yet pleasantly surprised by my question, like he didn't expect it from a young PA or that I even knew who he was. He continued to tell me about what a great set Hitch ran and Grant was one of the nicest men he's ever met. I'm telling you, it was like the scene in "Ed Wood" when Ed and Bela first meet, except this was about a year before that movie. Never was a walk so short. We finally came to his car. I thanked him and asked him to sign an autograph to my mother. He graciously did, and she still has it. If I ever meet him again, I hope he remembers that 'cause it made an impact on me.

Met a few (who hasn't?)... but my favorite story to tell is this one (even though, "celebrity" might not be the right word here)

I was about 18 or so and my mother had this office picnic that she had dragged me along to.  It was at Frontier City, this trashy theme park in Oklahoma City.  Just like at the Zoo, the have an ampitheater where washed out bands often play.

That day, it was a double bill.. Nazareth and Blue Oyster Cult.  Nazareth was onstage and I was a little tired of the same shitty roller coaster over and over so I walked by that area for a quick smoke and to take a look.

This guy walks up to me, he's got a backstage pass hanging around his neck, I figured he was a roadie or something.  Anyway, he asked for a light and I gave him one.  He stood there and casually asked how was I doing and did I come for the show?

"Nah, my mom drug me along for this picnic she's having"

"Oh yeah?  Do you like these guys?"

"Nazareth?  Never really listened to them much"

"What about Blue Oyster Cult?"

"Well, that Don't fear the Reaper song's pretty cool, but most of thier other stuff is pretty boring"

"Cool, thanks for the light man, take it easy"

He walked off and I went to get some chicken.  I came back and BOC was on stage and lo and behold, guess who's playing guitar, that same guy.  I had to get closer to the stage to double check and it sure as hell was him.

Thought it was odd that he didn't try to defend his band or even care that I told him the music was boring.

My uncle is a director and I got to go on the set of one of his movies once. I got to meet (in order of fame) Kiefer Sutherland, Anthony LaPalgia, and Charles Martin Smith. I got to watch "Win Ben Stein's Money" with Charlie Martin Smith. :(

I've met buttloads of famous people, but I think my favorite was a drunk Michelle Rodriguez at the premiere of Girlfight, so it was before she was famous. I'd never heard of her, but I'd just seen the movie and thought she kicked ass and I told her so. She was like, "thanks man!" Little did I know she would be starring alongside the great Vin Diesel in a little film called "The Fast and the Furious" but a few years later. Not to mention "Resident Evil" (which I actually think is a fucking awesome movie).

I met Bill Cosby on the set of a Jell-O pudding commercial. I think that's pretty funny.

Philip Seymour Hoffman baby! Only famous guy I've ever met....but really though, who better than PSH?

Yeah, he grew up in fairport...a town very close to mine and he happened to be in town for this local film festival, like only the 2nd annual one they've done, called The High Falls Film Festival...he was promoting Love Liza with his bro Gordy...and of course he probably wanted to visit the old town. There was an actors seminar and he showed up. My mom said we should go even though we probably wouldn't get in. It ended up not even being sold out, it was great. I was like a fucking teenage girl walking up to him...I was literally trembling. My mom and my sister had to force me into it...turned out to be the nicest guy in the world...signed both sides of my Boogie Nights poster when I had him sign the backwards side by accident (it's one of those double sided originals  8) ). He was fucking great, he even posed for a picture w/ me and my sister...it was one of the best days of my life. He is my favorite actor, no question. I even asked him a question during the seminar about the little fit he has with the phone in PDL when he's talking to Barry, where he sort of twitches with the phone and pulls on it...I asked him if it was improvised or if PTA told him to do that...cause it was one my favorite moments in the movie. Turns out PTA told him to do it after seeing him do it in a previous movie or show...the name of it I do not remember. I was too fucking excited to memorize everything and take it all in....it was fucking cool.

Anyway, I don't care if I never meet another famous person again...PSH is more than enough. Besides, I would convulse, faint and die a painful death if I ever met Audrey Tautou or Zooey Deschanel...or PTA for that matter. I'm surprised I didn't when I met PSH...I definitely came close. The beautiful poster hangs right next to Magnolia and PDL on my wall...the beautiful signature right next to Scotty J with his sunglasses and genius for all to see. It's amazing.

I met Paul Le Mat at a car show where he was there with his American Graffiti car. Everyone was talking about that movie, so he was a little surprised when I got him to sign my Melvin and Howard poster.

We talked for a little bit about the movie, and he pulled out a couple of 8x10's of himself and Jason Robards and signed them for me as well.
Nice guy.

I was at the London Film Festival with my girlfriend and we had tickets to see Punch-Drunk Love at an afternoon showing. We were annoyed because the main show, which PTA was going to be at and introduce the film, was completely sold out. But we figured we'd try and queue on the night for any returned tickets.
So anyway we get outside the cinema about three hours before the film starts and start waiting and waiting (we actually are so early we're in front of folks queuing for returned tickets for the movie show BEFORE PDL!)
Eventually the manager takes pity on us as says some tickets have been returned so we head inside and my girlfriend pays (she's nice like that). While I'm loitering about the counter I notice two PDL postcard sitting next to some other free booklets and stuff. Nice memento, I think, and pick them up.
It's only when we get outside and read the postcard do I see the words: "Revolution Pictures would like to invite you to a pre-screening champagne reception for Punch-Drunk Love" SCORE!
So we head over to this ridiculously expensive hotel (me in scabby jeans and t-shirt, her in hooded top, combats and carrying a plastic shopping bag) and flash the invites and actually get in!!
Champagne is served and the pair of us drink it much to fast while sitting shaking with joy at what is actually happening!
Then Paul walks in and gives hugs to Emily Watson, her husband (I think) and then Daniel Lupi and his family.
I didn't speak to him, even though he was standing about 10 feet from me, cos he was surrounded by filmy types and I was quite frankly too stunned by our good luck to even attempt a coherent sentence.
We sat and just took in the occasion, hearing occasional snippets of his conversations then finished our drinks and made a move to get to the movie.
To top it all off, PTA came on stage, introduced the film then returned to his seat - which happened to be directly across the aisle from me!
An amazing end to perhaps one of the finest cinema outtings I have ever had.

That PTA story was fucking great!
I, unlike the earlier post, would sell my mother into prostitution to meet Paul.
I bumped into the lead singer of Semisonic ("Closing Time")....actually backed up into him while waiting for my luggage in Philly Int'l...turned around, said sorry, then did a double take. Very cool guy, very amicable....told him I liked his music, he appreciated the comment...

I don't know who I met that was famous at the time.. more like washed up, I'd say. Mr. T in Toronto. Burt Young (Rocky's brother in "Rocky" and Curly in "Chinatown") in New York - right on the street. But other 'famous' people I met were Sha Na Na, Little Eva, Mark Breslin, Mike MacDonald, and that's about it really.

My school won a competition run by some record company or another in the early 90s and Kylie Minogue was there signing autographs, didn’t really care too much, I was a lot more interested in the guys in Teenage Mutant Ninja turtle outfits, I was only about 8 or 9.

I (literally) walked into Eric Bana once. Of coarse back then, I only knew him from 'Chopper'. I remember apologizing and saying something like 'you're that Chopper guy?' (I'm a fuckin' douchbag). He chuckled, 'Yeah mate, yeah'. He asked me if I knew where this stage challenge practise was going on at, I told him where, he said 'Cheers' that was that.

Now he's the freakin' 'Hulk'. That's weird. If that same thing happened today I would be a hell of a lot more nervous.

I used to work for Universal Studios Orlando during the grand Opening of Islands of Adventure.  I was a roller coaster operator for the Hulk.  A week before we opened, we had a celebrity day where Universal Invited a ton of celebrities to go to the park.  It was mixed in with other guests though.  I worked from open to close that day and My job was "celebrity escort."  Just chat with them for a minute and strap them in the coaster.
The list could go on for quite some time, but here are a few highlights:

Michael Douglas
Steven Speilberg (who is creative director for the park.  Met him more than once)
Ron Howard
Eddie Murphy
Jenna Elfman (coolest celebrity I have met)
Patrick Swayze (I was his temporary body guard)
Whitney Houston
Brittney Spears (I am so not lying.  Strapped her in myself.)
All the boy bands
Courtney Cox

The list could go on.  One small story:  Steven Spielberg is deathly afriad of heights, so he didn't ride any of the roller coasters.  But, since the Jurassic Park area is his baby, he had to ride everything.  As you know the River ride has an 85 foot drop at the end.  He rides the ride until right before the drop, stops the ride and climbs down a flight of stairs.

hahah, no shit. very nice story, feel free to tell more. anything would be better than all these asinine top 10 lists sum ppl seem to luv so much.

I met Marie-Josée Croze (the winner of this year's Best Actress in Cannes) last year at a restaurant in Toronto. She went outside to smoke, so I went too. I asked her for a light pretending I didn't know her, and said shit like : "C'est charmant comme resto" (This is a nice restaurant) and she laughed a little saying : Oui, en effet (Indeed).

Met Tom Hanks too, though didn't talk to him. Bruce Willis also shot a scene of The Jackal right at the bottom of a building I was visiting a friend in.

I once met Roman Polanski. When I was in Poland last year (where I actually come from) I was in Krakau and inside a coffee shop he was sitting there, drinking a coffee and reading the newspaper. I wanted to have an autograph, so I just took some sheed of paper, a pencil and went up to him. He's a really nice guy with a soft voice. In his eyes you can really kinda feel what everything happened to him in his life. I just told him that I really love his autobiography and his movies and that I want to become a filmmaker someday. He said I shouldn't give up my dream and fight for it because if you want to be a filmmaker, you can pull it off and become one.

Then when I was at the Hofer Filmtage here in Germany I saw Wim Wenders and Tom Tykwer playing soccer (that's some kind of tradition there I think). I didn't talk to them, I just saw them about 20 meters away from me.

Last but not least I saw Peter Jackson at the Berlin European Premiere of "The Return of the King". Luckily I was in the first row when he passed and everyone around me just wanted to have their LOTR-items signed so he was really surprised when I gave him my "Braindead" and "Bad Taste"-DVDs to sign. He smiled, looked at me and went away.

My contribution.
I met Vanessa Bauche (the girl who played Susana in Amores Perros') and she was extremely nice. Originally, it was a conference about the Mexican film industry's current state. It was supposed to last an hour and it prolonged, and the room in which she was adressing to us was going to be used  so  when the conference was about to end, she suggested moving to another room, or even the grass...
The talk ended lasting 4 hours,  and she told us about how difficult it is for a woman being in that industry (filled with machism), her experience at the Academy Awards  and how Gael García 'shadowed everyone at the ceremony. They weren't allowed to enter by the red carpet, and they sat next to all the Crouching Tiger crew. She also talked about Salma.

I really think I'm a loser sometimes, but the list convinces me otherwise (for a second or two anyway...)

- Quentin Tarantino (the man)
- Roger Avary (cool)
- Spike Jonze (aloof, but nice)
- Johnny Knoxville (world champion party guy)
- Eli Roth (super cool)
- Matt Dillon (a little weird)
- The Midget, Lucy, and Ben Horne from Twin Peaks (they're all nice, but totally insane)
- Christopher Nolan (humble and nice)
- Mike White (sweetheart)
- Richard Kelly (the man #2)
- Judd Nelson (on coke!)
- Carson Daly (tool)
- John Landis (dick-ish)
- Michael Moore (really nice)

Now looking it over, I guess I'm really a director whore if anything.  Or at least they're more approachable and unsuspecting of pestering if it's in public.  For some reason I find much apprehension of bothering an actor.  That feels so Ohio.

Woa, good list Weak2nd act! How did you meet Richard Beymer (Ben Horne)? I used to live at his LA place while he lived in Iowa. Yes, he's very insane. lol! I've been to about 6 twin peaks festivals so I've meet a lot of Twin Peaks actors and am good friends with a lot of them. But I've also met:

Nicholas Cage - film screening
Uma Thurman - film screening
Julianna Moore - Birds Cafe where I used to work. She had trouble finding the bathroom
Chirstina Ricci - again, Birds
Willem Dafoe - film screening
Johnny Knoxville - a couple of times at some sleazy little bars in Hollywood. The Frolic Room and The Burgendy room near Hollywood and Cahunga.
Spike Jonze - film screening and then again just walking down the street. Yes, he was very aloof but very nice. He remembered me.
Keifer Sutherland - A strip club called Crazy Girls. he was VERY drunk and carrying a black leather cane.
Eli Roth - he was actually my friend before he got famous. We met on DavidLynch.com and he came to some of the little DL.com gatherings we would organize. He was the life of the party every time. A really cool guy.
Quenting Tarantino - at a bunch of film screenings and also just at a regualr showing of Gangs of New York a while ago. He's super cool and, again, he's remembered me the last few times.

And the ultimate one, my personal favorite, is David Lynch. The man himself. I just got lucky and got to meet him because I was an avid DL.com member and chatter and he just invited me up to his studio to talk and hang along with a few other members. I'm very lucky, because he usually just invites girls up. lol! I still have the picture of the two of us together framed. We're both giving the thumbs up sign just like Gordon and Coop.  :-D   He was very friendly and a real inspiration to meet him. and usually I don't say that about meeting celebs.

lol! She actually had trouble figuring out which one to go into. They serve chicken at birds and on the bathrooms doors, instead of one saying "men" and one "women" - because they want to be creative and witty (lol!) - there is a picture of a chicken on one and a picture of a rooster on another. She didn't get it so I had to explain it to her.

Having worked at a few awards shows here and there, I've met Tarantino, Uma, Shyamalan, John Cameron Mitchell, Altman, Harvey Keitel, Jane Campion, Peter Fonda, Garry Shandling, etc. So I won't count them.  Though I saw Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve talking after one of these shows and I was watching them, thinking "This is so cool. When am I going to see that again?"

Then I saw Tony Scott's The Hunger.

But the only time I actually went up to a famous person and asked for an autograph was at the Disney Pocahontas premiere in Central Park.  I met Francis Ford Coppola, who was a very nice guy and I'd like to think impressed that someone as young as myself (I was 17) would recognize him.  I just remember thinking, "I'm talking to the man who made Apocalypse Now."

Nope, never meant a famous person before.

But a few years ago, a buddy of mine was working in a theatre in town (I live in Richmond, VA), when Christian Slater stopped by with his girlfriend. He was there because he was filming a movie in the area.  I forgot what the movie was, but I'm sure it sucked!!!

Of course, everybody was jumping for joy that he showed up and it just so happened that when Christian left the theatre, he moved behind the lobby with a whole swarm of people, when co-worker of his walked up to my friend and said, "Dude, Christian Slater is here".  He said out loud, "that fool hasn't hasn't done a good movie since Young Guns 2".

Christian heard him and gave him a nasty look.  I'm still laugh my ass off at that one.  8)

She went to the club next door later on and was kicked out after because she was "spaced out" as I was informed. We don't generally kick people out unless they're hitting on the waitresses too much or they're being assholes so she must have been gone.

And a side note, this may inspire you guys to post links to naked pictures of her. Don't do it, or I'll fucking snap. That is all.

Ha!

I know a guy who worked on sound for Hope Floats.  He said that Forrest was constantly stoned and losing his chair and forgetting where his stuff was.

He said that after the wrap of the movie they auctioned off a lot of stuff, including an answering machine that Forrest had been using.  Evidently, he forgot to erase all the messages and there was some really crazy woman that kept leaving messages, asking when he was going to call her back after "that night".

I don't know how valid those stories are, of course.

I've met Guiermo Del Torro... had breakfast with him, Harry Knowles, and Ron Perlman.

long hair at the moment, hmmm... there must be something going around.

Peter Engel, the producer of Saved by the Bell and Last Comic Standing, came to one my classes yesterday.  He was giving a lecture later called "Making it in Hollywood," but I think he gave the same speech in my class.  He wasn't terribly enlightening, but it was interesting to see the guy who created SBTB.  He kind of talks like Groucho Marx.

I was an extra on this movie called 'bee season' last year and i gaffawed in the face of one Mr Richard Gere. I also ate my lunch next to Kate Bosworth without even realising.

Oh, and I was looking for a payphone once so i went up to this blonde woman and asked if she knew where there was one. She turned around and it was heather locklear. I almost bit my lip off resisting the temptation of saying "there is a god - heather be thy name sssssccchhhhwwwwiiiinnnnggggggg"

I'm bored and can't sleep and this probably officially makes me a tool, but here goes:

I talked to Steven Tyler on the phone several years ago.   My mom used to write for an alternative weekly in Tulsa, and she was supposed to do a by-phone interview with him.

I was at home by myself, and she hadn't gotten home from work yet, but the phone rings, I pick it up, and hear a raspy voice say

Steven Tyler: "May I speak to Crystal?"
Me: "Um, she's not quite home yet... wait a second, is this Steven Tyler?"
ST: (chuckles) "Yes it is."
Me: (sounding like an over-enthusiastic asshole) "What's up man?! I'm gonna see you at the OKC show next week.  You kick ass."
ST: (laughter) "Thanks.  What's your name?"
Me: "Josh."
ST: "Josh, huh? You sound a little nasally."
Me: "Yeah, I've got chronic allergy problems."
ST: (hard laughter) "You sure you haven't been snorting any of that nose candy?"
Me: (beat, incredulous) "uh, No man. Not today."
ST: "Well that's good to hear.  When should I call back?"
Me: "Probably, in like fifteen minutes."
ST: "Alright, thanks bud."

And that was that.  So no matter what happens in life, I can know that Steven Tyler once asked me if I had been snorting coke.

In addition, I've met Ethan Hawke, Michael Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Danny Glover.   I talked to a famous supermodel (I don't remember her name) when her and her very expensive shrink came down to the office I was working in and asked to borrow a pen so she could write him his check.  That was actually really funny. She was going on to him about how she really thinks she's made a breakthrough but she's still feeling anxiety about this and that and the other and so on.  Stupid neurotic supermodels.

I walked and talked with an old journalist from Life magazine who told me funny stories about Billy Wilder and then let me see his (Wilder's) old office.  I touched Billy Wilder's workdesk.  I thought that was pretty cool.

Me and a buddy were on the roof of the LA Film School across the street from the Catwoman premiere at the Arclight.  When Sharon Stone got out of her limo, my friend yelled "Hey Sharon! Show us your snatch!" And I swear to god she looked up and shot us a dirty look.

Also, I saw PTA in his car at an intersection in Beverly Hills.

im friends with noah hutton, son of timothy and debra winger, and his step dad is arnold something or other, private cowboy from full metal jacket. haven't seen noah for a few years, though, but last time his mom cooked us pasta. that was cool, pasta from debra winger.

a separate time, i think, we were in new york and going to a recording studio because noah plays drums and i felt like watching and hadn't seen the band for a while..wait this was the same trip as the pasta time but whatever...and anyhow while driving through nyc some nutty cabman was honking and screaming and pointing at us, then it turned it he was actually "the nicest cab driver in new york" as timothy said, because he was just letting us know we had a flat. the taxi driver did not ask for a gratuity either, which was classy.

also the dad from lizzie maguire came into a sandwhich shop i worked in, as did jerry stiller. both of them ordered sandwhiches. this was on separate occasions.

Gael Garcia Bernal- Film screening for The Motorcycle Diaries
Jean-Pierre Jeunet- Film screening for A Very Long Engagement
Dustin Hoffman picked me up when I was a baby at Disneyland because he thought I was cute...
Saw Aaron Spelling playing golf at his mansion in Hollywood.

QuoteI once met Roman Polanski.

And I am insanely jealous about that :bravo:

Ouch.  Why you gotta be so reductionist?  I, for one, would have talked to her, and then would have based my observations of the encounter on something deeper than mere physical attractiveness.

Although, to be fair, she is quite hot.

And as far as meeting famous people goes, I met Zach Braff at the Seattle International Film Festival, and he's about the nicest, coolest guy on the planet.  I also met former Seattle Mariner Edgar Martinez, who had his kid's birthday party at this place I used to work.  He was also nice, also cool, and has the most adorable accent.

Braff was at the advance Garden State screening i saw last summer but i didnt talk to him cause i had never seen Scrubs (which i am currently 1/3 of the way into the first season and its pretty good) and had only just seen his movie which i liked 2/3's of.  so i didnt want to be all fake and there were tons of braff girls already mobbing him.

i didnt talk to heather graham cause she was on her phone and cause nobody else was acknowledging her and cause i only really like to bother famous people if i really do like them.  i'm not like a huge fan or something of her, besides her being in Boogie and Twin Peaks and Arrested Development what am I going to talk to her about?  it was funny though cause my girlfriend and i were just walking behind this girl.  and i was looking at her going 'she's probably attractive' and my girlfriend was looking at her skirt going 'that is expensive.  it LOOKS cheap and like casual but its actually really nice' and then we got infront of her and i turned around to look at her face cause i was curious and i was like 'turn around, its heather graham.'   it was odd.  and cool.  she had little makeup on and was still very beautiful in person.  it almost didnt look like her, cause nobody else was recognizing her, but it was her.

i would just like to point out that 'cheap jacks' is NOT cheap.  they are expensive as hell.  see: selling a vintage coca-cola t-shirt for $175!

side thought: does it take something away from people you dig to know they pay outrageous amounts of money for thrift store clothes, when you'd rather just think they are so cool they were just born with them or you know, ACTUALLY bought them at a thrift store.  cause i think it makes me a little sad. or maybe just because i cant afford it...

Did she look old? It always freaked me out how old she was. I think she was 40 in the goonies, and I figured she had died of old age...then I saw her 15 years later in 200 cigarettes playing a 20 something and my head exploded.

I saw a lot of celebrities yesterday

-chris kattan in best buy. he looked depressed.
-mr. belding. or, the guy who played mr. belding on saved by the bell. he was standing outside a swanky restaurant waiting for valet to bring his car around.
-jason schwartman in tower records.

Natalie Portman...she signed my Kerry Edwards sign.  My friend told me to act like his phone was a cameraphone (which it wasn't), so he could put his arm around her for a "photo"

Talked to Zach Braff and Rachel Bilson on the set of "The Last Kiss", in which I was an extra for.  Braff seems pretty cool, Bilson was unbelievably dumb.  He was trying to show her a card trick, when he was done Rachel turned to my friend and I (different friend from above) and said, "I bet you guys know better tricks".  My friend responded with, "I stopped using card tricks to pick up women 10 years ago."

saw James Iha (of Smashing Pumpkins) and Ric Ocasek (of the Cars) at the Mercury Lounge tonite seperately.  Ocasek we had seen before a few years ago outside Irving Plaza but tonite i think he hit on my girlfriend.  i had to verify it was him cause otherwise id've killed the old creep!  you know, if he hadn't sung in the cars and married a supermodel.  i was like 2 feet away from iha at one point and since smashing pumpkins were my whole world back in high school the temptation was high to just say 'so billy said you broke up the band and now he wants to get back together.'  and wait for a response...  but i left him alone.

he hit on the girl i was with... they'd met before in france a couple years ago. she used the opportunity to give him a copy of her jazz demo.

it was a fun night and a great show.

That's comptetely how he is, I loved it.  One minute he's making this absurdly hillarious Empire State Building consciousness analogy, and the next minute he's making fun of the kid name dropping Allen Ginsberg.  He talks about transcendental meditation and then he's making fun of hippies.  It's all good times with the guy.  The extent of the revelation of his dark side was a brief discussion on Blue Velvet, but it was a beautifully revealing moment.  It went as:  the kid says "You have acheived this pure bliss through your meditation, but yet your films, like Blue Velvet, deal with the dark side of the human soul, how is this?"  Lynch smiles and says, "The human condition, not the human soul.  Meditation allows you to dig more into the darkness without becoming it, it allows you to enter it fully. [sic'd]"  It was defintitely a light-hearted interview session and the crowd was really receptive to jokes (but crowd jokes too, fuck all you 909'ers making your 'Your movie is called Inland Empire but you're not coming to Riverside lol").

Which is why it felt like hanging out with grandpa.  You could tell he was making the jokes but not telling the war stories, you know.

Gotta love him.  Dirty rooms in the Empire State Building, and meditation is like going to the lowest floor, activating mini-cleaning robots, which clean the room and release a golden something into the air.  It was definitely worth seeing his Q&A, and it has gotten me re-interested in meditation, but I'm disappointed that in trying to "spread the message," they charge $2500 for learning that specific form of meditation.  (p.s. I didn't see this in Irvine--I saw the live broadcast to UC-Santa Cruz.  We all cheered when he mentioned us.)

was in a bar in hell's kitchen recently with some friends and saw rachael mcadams and ryan gosling (sp?) there. we all took a shot of jack daniels with them. shook her hand.  :yabbse-grin:

seriously tho, they were completely wasted. i was surprised/impressed to see them both sip on makers mark all night (straight up, no rocks). she was all over him too, kissin' and licking his face and neck. was wild.

let's take a look at a good old neighborhood map of NYC, shall we?

as you can see, hell's kitchen is  midtown, west of times square (technically west late 30s to 60s). it used to be one of the seediest neighborhoods in the city (think "Mean Streets" and "Sleepers") but now has become one of the hippest, with new buildings, bars and restaurants popping up by the minute. in fact, they've changed the name to "Clinton" b/c apparently "Hell's Kitchen" is not the most attractive of names (even though i personally think it's the coolest name for a neighborhood you could ask for).

also, FYI-- harlem has cleaned up ALOT. they've changed the name to "Morningside Heights" but no one really calls it that.

i keep hearing how all these places used to be seedy and are now hip. i don't know anything about neighbourhoods and shit, so what i wanna know is exactly what part of manhattan ISNT hip now? i mean, even if there are parts which aren't hip, surely that only guarrantees they will be in like a year or whatever, right?

so far really really upper and really really lower isnt that hip.  but yes, eventually everywhere in manhattan will be totally unaffordable.  and i cant wait to live there!

i almost bumped into Joan Allen tonite after I came out of The New World.  there was a mutual 'excuse me' and then she was gone.

that's a good point, and i made a similar comment when i first moved up here.

basically what i've learned is that every neighborhood offers something different, so you could make the argument that one neighborhood is just as "hip" as the next. for example, chelsea is very gaycentric. east village is very college/punk-rock-centric. west village is more of a mix of NYU kids and Wall Street yuppies/sex and the city-girls. i guess it's all a matter of taste.

guess that didn't really answer your question, huh. the two neighborhoods that are undeniably the hippest are the west village and the meatpacking district (especially the latter, which is a perfect example of what was once seedy but now trendy). the non-hip parts-- financial district (post- 9/11 everyone cleared out of there, although there is a wave of ppl moving back and you can still get a really good deal around there), upper east side (where all the old people live), and times square (biggest cluster fuck/tourist trap of the city).

so yes, upper east, times square, and financial district are definitely not the hippest in my book. will they be in a year?

times square-- hell no. it's like disney world and it's probably going to stay that way
upper east - some people love it up there but it just ain't for me.
financial district - possibly. if enough ppl move down there it could be fun. it's probably one of the most beautiful parts of the city. bad thing is you can't find a bar or restaurant open passed 9.

Yeah that thread.  Or he can pm me.  Way interested.

I'll get it back on track by saying that Muhammad Ali lives in Berrien Springs Michigan and I went to college there for a year.  One night I was hanging out in the dorm with some friends and a girl comes back from a gas station (there's like three in the city, it's super small) and says all nonchalant that she saw Ali there.  We head on over hoping that he's still there and he is.

He's with a friend from Kentucky, a real swank red-tanned white guy who's driving Ali around in a blue Mustang, right.  And this is 2002, so Ali's Parkinson's is readily apparent - he doesn't say anything the entire time, walks slow.  It was almost that I wished I hadn't seen him like this you know.  But fuck if he's not awesome.  He's probably as excited that we're excited to see him as we are excited to see him - he poses for pictures, puts our fists against his face and the like.  We're there for twenty minutes or so watching Ali chew bubblegum and take it out of his mouth to show us how big it is, the Kentucky guy going "Hey, look what the Champ's got" when he does this.

It was a weird night.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha...Jokes, i love them.

Well here is a story, contents include Kristie Alley (Pre-Trim-spa, or Jenny Craig or whatever),  Chris o Donnell, and john travolta.

For the summer i went to Maine, actually an island off of Maine, called Islesboro.  this is a place where rich people go for the summer to avoid the extreme heat or whatever the fuck really rich people think. Oh yeah, Yachting, i forgot.  Anyways, I'll start with Kristie, i saw her in one out of the two grocery stores on the island, i knew she was there the moment i saw here lime green suburban...As I'm picking up Necessities for the restaurant i work for, i see her, walking down an isle and then she proceeds to pick up a bag of chips, and then open them, and then eat hand-fuls...I'm staring in amazement, and then i give her a head nod, and she looks away.

John Travolta, comes up to my boss and asks him if he can play golf on the course, because he is not a member and figured that he should ask permission.  The whole time I'm thinking A) You're short and B) you're fucking john travolta you could buy this golf course fuck permission.  After my boss (Charles) insists that it is no problem, even though it isn't up to him...John's Wife, who is carrying a an envelope pulls out an autographed picture and gives it to him as a "thank you"

The Chris O Donnell stories, I'll type later, it's too much work right now.

At the Toronto Film Festival a few years back I brushed into some guy, I looked back and it was Pierce Brosnan. I found myself walking next to Dustin Hoffman briefly before his posse enveloped me, and I walked right past Dennis Quiad. I also saw Keanu Reeves from a distance, all these encounters and no words shared.

Depp Best, Diaz Worst for Autographs

Johnny Depp has the write stuff when it comes to signing autographs while Cameron Diaz is the worst, according to a new list Friday from Autograph Collector magazine.

Depp, followed by George Clooney, topped the magazine's 14th annual survey of Hollywood's best and worst signers. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star also was rated best last year.

"Many stars become bad signers once fame and fortune hits, but not Depp. He's even signed autographs for crowds at the airport while carrying luggage," said Steve Cyrkin, editor and publisher of the Santa Ana, Calif.-based magazine.

As for Clooney, "he'll joke as he signs, and make fun of how he looks in photos he's handed to autograph," Cyrkin said.

When it comes to her moniker, however, Diaz gets a flunking grade.

"Cameron Diaz may be a talented actress, but she's persistently a terrible signer. Instead of just turning down a person's autograph request, she'll lecture them about how dumb autographs are," Cyrkin said.

Russell Crowe would have been named as the best of the worst but in recent months he has been much nicer to fans, Cyrkin said in a telephone interview Friday.

Cyrkin said the list, which appears in the magazine's June issue, was based on information from a professional autograph collector and an enthusiastic amateur who is a journalist.

"They're the guys who want to get five or 10 or 12 of everything but they do see people" and know the "track records" of the stars, he said.

"It's looking at the spirit of the way they sign," Cyrkin said. "It's how they treat their fans."

Here is the list of 10 best and 10 worst Hollywood autograph signers for 2006, according to the magazine:

Best

1. Johnny Depp
2. George Clooney
3. Matt Damon
4. Al Pacino
5. Tom Cruise
6. Angelina Jolie
7. Elijah Wood
8. Brittany Murphy
9. Jack Nicholson
10. Clint Eastwood

Worst

1. Cameron Diaz
2. Bruce Willis
3. Demi Moore
4. Tobey Maguire
5. Alan Alda
6. Halle Berry
7. Winona Ryder
8. Teri Hatcher
9. Joaquin Phoenix
10. Russell Crowe

the dumbness of autographs is beside the point. it's a relatively harmless gesture. cameron's just being really, really, re-e-e-a-a-a-lllllllllllly self-righteous.

True.  I would prefer that, rather than lecturing, Cammy would just kick people in the shins when they asked for autographs.  It would be quicker, more effective, and fun to watch.

haha, you sound like you've been hounded by the paparazzi or someshit. now that'd be an annoying gesture, the invasion of privacy and all that which comes with being a rich celebrity. she sounds self-righteous and condescending. i'd never ask for an autograph because it's lame, but why is she lecturing people about it? oh right, because she's jesus fucking bono and was on that mtv show where she got sand in her brain. that was funny.

I was in Bozeman, Montana for a wedding last weekend.  Beautiful part of the country.  Someone in the wedding party got wind that a well known actor and cult figure was in town shooting a movie and doing a book signing the day of the wedding.  So in between the pictures and the ceremony, the whole wedding party ran to the Barnes & Noble to try and get his blessing for the soon-to-be-newlyweds.

Once we got to the church after this, the woman who "directs" the weddings was pissed.  She didn't know why everyone was late but her only response was, "I hope it was for an honest reason."

Doesn't get much more honest than having your picture taken with Henry Winkler.

By the way, that's me on the far right.

The two greatest things about being a dude: peeing upright and never having to wear bridesmaid dresses.  The third would be: being Henry Winkler.  But that only applies to Henry Winkler.

True, but A) I didn't want to hog the Winkler facetime since I wasn't the one getting married; and B) I have it on videotape that, when everyone is taking pictures of us all, he points to me to make sure that "this guy" is in the shot.  Henry Winkler acknowledged my existence.  Good enough for me.

Met John Szarkowski today. He is famous, but I'm not sure how famous outside of the Photo World. But, he was the curator of Photography at the MoMA for nearly 30 years ('62 - '91) and is credited with making photography what it is today. Meaning, as an accepted form of Art in its own right, not as something similar to painting. He also helped to get Eggleston, Arbus, Winogrand (I think), etc some public recognition.
Very nice man, very generous with his knowledge and advice in the student critique, and very personable and humorous.
Basically made me re-think certain conclusions I had reached in photography. Which is all that I could've hoped for.
Each student was only allotted 3 photos to show, I picked two that are in my photo thread here, and another more recent portrait of my friend, Josh. I may eventually put that in the thread, along with others.
He thought my girlfriend was beautiful, and felt that she was a sort of, a generic version of the starlets of Classical Hollywood and recalled the old Production Photos theaters would put up to advertise the stars of the films. It's good, because that's what I was going for, but it was more conceptual and it's really not something he's interested in.
He didn't say anything too negative about them, but left me feeling that I should go in another direction. Which is great.

Anyway, so I met John Szarkowski, it was wonderful, he'll give a lecture tomorrow on Ansel Adams' work at the museum, so I'll see him again. And I didn't mean to go so far on the tangent.

okay. it's my last shift ever at the video store. this guy comes in to pick up some movies for a woman who phoned earlier, but he doesn't have an account or any id on him. just to be absolutely certain he doesn't have an account i ask for his last name.
guy: it's b-l-o-m-k-a-m-p.
[now, this man is clearly not Neill Blomkamp, but Blomkamp is a pretty rare name, and i know Blomkamp lived in Vancouver at least until recently..]
me: you're not related to Neill, are you?
guy: yeah. i'm his brother. he's over there.
*points out the window to guy sitting in car, like a few feet away*
me:  WHAT! THAT'S FANTASTIC! THAT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FILMS OF THE LAST FEW YEARS!
guy:  :yabbse-grin:, *walking backwards out the door, clearly intent on leaving as soon as possible, seems to tell neill*
me: *not sure what to do. i turn away.*

it was almost cruel. he anticipated my fandom and ran like a bullet, but he seemed happy about it too. i  doubt blomkamp gets fan'd a lot by the general public/random people.

Yes!  I was also there!  My weekend was full of Party Down.  It was great.

- Ken Marino is one the nicest, coolest, genuine dudes on the planet.  At the marathon after-party, he went out of his way to go and talk to all of the people who had just sat through every episode of the show in a row.  He was INSANELY nice to everyone and insanely funny.  Every time he went up to the stage during the marathon to do one of the three Q&As, he would run through the theater, high-fiving everyone in every row then do the same on the way back.
- I both got ran into by and took a piss next to Adam Scott (didn't check out his dick).
- Martin Star is kind of a dick.  I've always suspected this and still like him as an actor, but he is a lot like his character on Party Down.  (also, he's mostly just a dick compared to all the other insanely nice stars).
- Lizzy Caplan seemed uncomfortable being such a pretty girl around so many nerdy fans.  She seemed to just stick with Martin to hide in the smoke of his jerk-vibe so less people would bug her.
- Nick Offerman and Megan Mulaley get my vote for best Hollywood couple.
- Party Down is really funny and holds up even during marathon viewing (though I now disagree with everyone who says season 2 is better than season 1).

i don't have much information about this film, but it's being filmed in my city and two very close friends of mine are going to be in it, a few of my friends are actually helping shoot it, and I MAY GET A BRIEF PART AS WELL. it looks pretty mindless hollywood stuff but i GOT TO MEET FREAKING DENIRO and it was CRAZY. i saw some other folks from a distance, but that was pretty earth shattering.

I'm apparently a magnet for slightly famous people right now. Last week I was on a flight with former NBA player/Parks and Rec guest star Detlef Schrempf, and this morning I was having breakfast one table away from Adrianne Palicki from Friday Night Lights at a restaurant down the street from my apartment.

Very curious which celebrity I'm going to see next weekend at this rate.

I ran into Tom Wilkinson in a hotel in McDonough, GA of all places.

The exchange went something like this:

Me:

LoL, for some reason the movie "In The Bedroom" has been on my mind all day.. maybe because there's been this talk about "Manchester By The Sea" and I sense a similarity between the two of them.
