These are two movies from Lindsay Anderson that starred Malcolm McDowell. "If..." was from the late 60's and I think stood for a commentary on violence (particularly involving male angst). That one was really good, but I really loved "O Lucky Man", which came out several  years later. It's a big, brilliant and very entertaining movie. Easily one of the most under-rated films of the 70's.
Typical US Mother: "Remember what the MPAA says; Horrific, Deplorable violence is okay, as long as people don't say any naughty words."

I used to watch If... on Bravo back when it showed good movies.
