I only saw the opening of it and the pool scene in high school before we read Romeo and Juliet, but I was put off by it.  The stilted Shakespearean language and the modern setting came off more as a "what if we did this" type experiment.  Granted, I haven't watched the whole thing, but I can't bring myself to, especially after seeing Moulin Rouge.
