This dvd deserves it's own thread, realize I am talkin' about the 2-disc region 1 edition.
But it's filled with some great shit. the cute outakes, the first look, and the q&a?:
when he asked a joe to move is car, shooting on location...he got a: "fuck yer cinema."
of course I could also be quite biased due to a particular girl. those eyes...
i have not seen it yet.......how good it is ?..the dvd/film itself....
...you haven't seen Amelie?
Drop everything. Go now. It's one of the most perfect films ever.

I think it's pretty good. I would never call it one of the most perfect films ever...that's setting yourself up for dissapointment.

saturated genius, delightfully pinched with some charming love.
audrey is nice too.
i hate subtitles, this movie has made me want to learn french, just so I can stop reading and just looksee.
When this was playing in theatres, I saw it alone on Valentine's Day
I really loved it. I had to travel to Birmingham to see it in theaters and I'm glad I did.

There aren't too many movies that really makes you long for love. This one's one of them.

Agreed. And Punch-Drunk Love also made me depressed when, after seeing it, I didn't have anyone special to share that love at the time.

And there aren't too many movies that make you yell out "KISS HIM, YOU DUMB BITCH!" (true story)
Amelie is charming and all, but what else is it suppose to be? So, on that, I did enjoy it. The film is a half hour too long and considering the style is so manic and so persistent, that last half hour was even harder for me to watch than the normal film.
It seems people love the movie on personal levels, or they just like it. I just liked it. I first watched the film having been barraged by a friend who adored it beyond reason. She got me to expect something grand, but afterwards, I realized her identification with Amelie instead.
GT--
Pretty much on the same boat with you there. I too know a few people who are uber-obsessed w/ the movie. And predictably, they're the most painfully romantic.
buncha love haters!!!!
this is probably the funest (is that a word?) movie i have seen in the last few years. the scene alone when she is fuckin' with the dude watching the soccer game is great. her laughin' during the ol' hibbity-hibbity, the cinema induced smile, shit, even the last half hour. it's quirky, cute, intelligent, honest, and near perfection.
audrey's screen tests are great too.
honestly... (http://www.andreas.de/amelie/pics/amelie_web2.jpg)
ok...regardless of the love based tones. Can you guys at least admit that in a way, you wish you could find someone that was genuwinly "good" and tried to do better onto others?
I mean, I guess I love this movie cause it's my pathetic attempt to actually believe there is a girl out there as creative and passionate when it comes to the topic of the chase.
Then, again...I am reminded daily that this may only be possible in a movie.

My dream girl would be exactly like Amelie, smart, funny, creative, passionate, happy and beautiful. What else can you ask for?
ask her not to be annoing...
It's a beautiful movie. Sweet, but stops short of syrupy. I love it. I think both Audrey Tautou and Mathieu Kassovitz are incredibly charming and sexy in a romantic way... It's a really lovely experience. The DVD is top-notch, too.
i know a girl who is like amelie. she actually turned me onto this film...
Quote from: classical gasi know a girl who is like amelie.
That could actually come to be annoying in real life, though. Does she EVER have a bad day?
Quote from: godardianDoes she EVER have a bad day?
remember when amelie starts to cry?...everyone gets overwhelmed.

she does, and you'll know about it. but she tries her hardest not to take it out on other's. she tends to take it out on people who are closer to her, but who doesn't? if they're a good friend, i'll allow them to blow off some steam in my direction.

more importantly...is she single?...just kiddin'.
Hey, this film is bent towards hopeless romantics. You either get it or you don't. I happen to be in this camp, which is why this movie leaves me feeling great hope for the world and the fortitude to continue my search for a real-life Ms. Poulain.
Thank you.
Quote from: coffeebeetlea real-life Ms. Poulain.
yes, i think you have it down...call me a hopeless romantic i guess...but i am convinced that there are in fact girls that are just this....well,
neat. I have been watching this way too much lately, (thus why i started the thread) and each time I am still finding myself smiling at different things. The movie is a gem like I have not known for awhile. It stays in my rotation...
I want a girl to make me feel like this (http://www.sophiedemeyere.be/music/11%20-%20Original%20Soundtrack%20-%20La%20Valse%20D%27Am%E9lie%20%5BOrchestra%20Version%5D%20-%20Am%E9lie.mp3).
i blindly bought itcos it was cheep and cos of all the possitive talk it gets all the time be everyone. i almost hated it. it left me completely cold. the entire time i was like, what am i missing here? what am i not noticing? the one thing i noticed was that french people can very annoing.
and by the way, audrey tatou does nothing for me.

do you think any has to do with the loss in translation at all? I mean, i dunno how someone could call it cold??? if you don't like it, i can understand why....but cold is a interesting way to describe it.
You can't even admit to liking it on a technical level? Some of the shots were just fuckin' great. even the cheesy puddle of audrey is great.

you didn't read me correctly, what i said was that it left me cold. as in the movie sweetness and warmth was reflected on my skin.
i didn't really enjoy the way it was shot either, very hyper active in a very annoing way. i dunno, i remember liking jeunet in city of the lost cildren a long time ago. that was a pretty cool film.

you are right, my bad. never saw the other film you mentioned, but what kinda film would you consider a good "lovestory" ?

Oh, you have to see
City of Lost Children.
And anyone who found the French people in
Amelie annoying should never watch more realistic depictions of French people on film, let alone actually go there. They are not like Amelie and her cozy, eccentric gang.

French people are famous for being arrogant. You can't have an opinion about them based on movies. Reality and movies are two different things.
It's like that thing with Italian men. People think they are so handsome. In fact, they are not: small, and talk too much. Annoing.
wel, finnally got around to seening this and i thought it was cool...
good suggestion.....
haven't ripped through the extras yet....
it does give you a buzzing sensation from watching...it.
i loved the look of the film .......the waterfall part is cinematic gold.....

What, you're both Italians?
I know an Italian family and plenty of the guys stand over six feet tall.. the girls are pretty tall as well.. So there goes that theory.

I was just joking about being part Italian and short. I'm like part German and Italian, and I'm 5' 7"...I think the stereotype is funny.
I was just warning her not to mock Italians in public.
Amelie's a great movie. :-D
Quote from: meatballAmelie's a great movie. :-D
yes it is....i love it.
you know what i have found though. chicks...they say this is one of their favorite movies, but i think most only actually watched it once. which is fine...but it would be nice if they actually knew the scenes and could discuss them. or even being able to reconize a song from it. most can't... :?
maybe i am just too obessed with this movie myself though.
Quotei loved the look of the film .......the waterfall part is cinematic gold.....

god yes... the camera movement, the music and the scene itself (what is happening) are just... incredible.
Quote from: ProgWRXgod yes...
was there a cameron crowe cameo in amelie that i missed or something? hehe.
another scene i dig...i know it's cheesy, but when the 2 are in the bathroom doing the ol' shimmy rimmy...and the glasses start shaking. I dunno...i know i was suppose to have a shit eating grin i my face, but it was there more so cause of audrey's reaction...i dunno, just something about it, it was a perfect touch to a scene you were probably smiling at cause...umm...they were
doin' it.
that scene was cool in a quirky way...
but another scene that just gripped me emotionally was when she was leading the blind man on the streets while describing what was going on... just wow...
Amelie is one of those movies that just stay with you in a way that even when just remembering back on scenes, you get choked up...
My cat is named after Amelie
Quote from: ProgWRXMy cat is named after Amelie
mine's named magnolia....
i agree though...it's like this...i can even just see a movie still of this, maybe listen to the soundtrack, i dunno. and i will instantly give me the "warm fuzzy feeling" this film gives me. yeah, yeah.. you all have those movies, this one is mine.
Even something like this:
I love it! as i said, i don't think i have ever seen a person/character that is just this "neat". A lot of the scene in this you would expect to be cheesy (maybe sum think they are), but i don't think there is as great of a feel good film for me personally. but, yes, that's probably stemming for my want for a real-life amelie (most girls are not this "neat").
Quote from: The Gold Trumpet...It seems people love the movie on personal levels...
exactly! well that's my case, in fact i think Amelie is a good movie but not that great, even so i can't deny i've watched it more than twice ...i don't know, maybe is the lovely Amelie, or Jean Pierre Jeunet, or just Paris... ohhhhh Paris....
yes...the scenes with her as a child are also very touching...
to me specially was the scene when she is taking photographs of the clouds, and seeing them as animals and shapes..
8)
I saw this site and it reminded me of Amelie:
