The Apostle was on IFC tonight.  I was kind of tired and I had seen it before, so I didn't plan on watching it, but I ended up watching the whole thing.  This is an amazing film.  Robert Duvall has written and portrayed the Sonny/E.F. as a relatable person, with the faults and desires of anyone.  He isn't a super-divine person, nor is he completely corrupt.  This is a great characterization of a man who is religious, charismatic, frail, and human.  The scenes of the congregations are very authentic feeling, and Duvall's performance in these scenes, particularly at the end, are excellent.

1976

in my humble opinion, one of the best acting performances in film history.
