trailer felt like the whole film.

not much more i'd want to find out that wasn't teased and then delivered in the trailer.

i guess you'd get a more complete "day in the life" kind of experience in the film itself but the trailer doesn't really make you want to stick around that long cos it wraps everything up so nicely. i think with documentaries you have to get lucky fast or you have to stick around for years with your subject until you get lucky. i'm referring to some kind of dramatic hook that could not have been planned, that's usually the gem that a trailer feeds you. not trying to bust your balls cos i appreciate that not every doco can live with its characters nor does every doco need to. those well edited 4mins tell me that while there's more to know about these characters and their role in modern media, it's only more of what we already saw which is complete and satisfying unto itself.

docos are always hampered by the very thing that makes them appealing. being real events or real ppl means the mystery is already solved, it's walking around right now and you just haven't heard of it. The Thin Blue Line literally exploits this. it presents a true event that wishes only to be witnessed. The Cove is amazing in this regard also, and the trailer for it is a great example of something that gives away the whole story and even if you knew about it already you still feel you hav to watch the thing cos it freaking happened and needs to be witnessed! love that movie.

haha obviously i've gone wayyyyy off topic and beyond what was necessary to give you props. great job cos you're out there getting it done, more than i can say for myself that's for sure.

p: i agree with everything. i figured my only guarantee was that the trailer would get seen because it was online and the film doesn't ever have any guarantee of being seen, so i tried to make it more of a mini-version rather than a traditional trailer. not sure if it was the best plan or not, but it was a plan.

i think, despite knowing who they are and what they've done, the doc will be quite surprising in a few areas.
we'll see. submitting it to cannes in a week or so, so you will know around april 5th if we failed or succeeded!
