Luckily, the local library has a lot of DVDs, including many Criterions and silent films, so I get to see alot of good movies for free.  I've tried to get a pretty diverse collection, and except for the Wes Anderson titles and a few of the Bruce Lee titles, I haven't  repeated any directors, though I should get the other 2 P.T. Anderson titles.

Its decent.  For those of you who don't know, DVD Discoveries is a DVD produced by DVD Angle that explains some of the aspects of DVD production, from the production of special features and menus to manufacturing.  There are segments with Sharpline Arts, Automat Pictures, David Prior & Charles deLauzrika (sp?) and others, explaining some of the thoughts behind producing supplemental content.  My favorite segments were the two with Van Ling.  Also interesting is the segment on how DVDs are pressed.

I wished the DVD would get into more of the details, but it is an interesting overview.  At $11.95 I'm not complaining.  Home Theater Forum has a thread on it with screenshots, and you can order it at http://www.dvddiscoveries.com.

"I'm successful, right? I mean, I could say to a woman, I'm a screenwriter and she'd look at me differently. I could get laid. But I want someone to like me. For me. Y'know? The way I like them. The way I'd do anything for that woman walking down the street. A million women walking down the street. I don't need to know what their jobs are. No one will ever love me like that. Like I love almost every woman I see."

""Money doesn't come into it. It never has. I do what I do because it's all that I am." - Morrissey

"Lacan stressed more and more in his work the power and organizing principle of the symbolic, understood as the networks, social, cultural, and linguistic, into which a child is born. These precede the birth of a child, which is why Lacan can say that language is there from before the actual moment of birth. It is there in the social structures which are at play in the family and, of course, in the ideals, goals, and histories of the parents. This world of language can hardly be grasped by the newborn and yet it will act on the whole of the child's existence."
