Silver Mount Zion (offshoot of Godspeed You) - Absolutely beautiful. Less apocolyptic than Godspeed.

Arab Strap. Good friends with Mogwai - similar guitar sound, but they have a drunk Scottish guy basically reading his diary over the music.

Mum. Another beautiful Icelandic band: imagine new Radiohead beats with two toned-down Bjorks singing the sweetest sounding melodies over the top of Sigur Ros' piano sound.

Oooh, I love Arab Strap. First got into them through the Glasgow Scene/Belle and Sebastian connection (The Boy with the Arab Strap).

I think the bearded guy's name is Angus something... he's the sad, vitriolic diary-reader. He is also naked (in a drawing) on the back of AS's 1998 album, Philophobia, my personal favorite of theirs. The cover has a naked drawing of one of his bandmates...

How about Sparklehorse...?
Quite different style from what we've been talking about, but everyone I know who loves the bands discussed previously (including me) loves 'em... Beautiful, country-inspired weirdness.

This also prompts me to think of Lambchop, a band I cannot believe no one has set up a thread for. In fact...

Give Kinski a shot.  Their new album (just out on Sub Pop) plays with a handful of post-rock styles: everything from Mogwai to Tortoise to Godspeed to Sonic Youth.  Decent record.

Mum is a good suggestion for Sigur Ros lovers.

Also, look into a band called Mono on the Arena Rock label.

I really love Sparklehorse. I was once supposed to see them open for Mazzy Star, but he got sick and some crap local band opened. A couple years later, saw them headline a Portland punk club. Played the whole set with a pig mask on. A tremendous live performance.

Fave 'horse tunes:

"Homecoming Queen"

"Painbirds"

"Pig"

"Eyepennies"

I saw him open for Tortoise in Chicago.  Can't remember the first song he did (something from It's A Wonderful Life), but it was accompanied by a film of Mark, standing naked in a rushing river.  As he sang the song on stage, in the film the camera scrolled across his body and limbs, on which the lyrics to the song were scrawled in black.  Very Flaming Lips; very amazing.  Breathtaking.

Oh my God! I never realised about that Belle and Sebastian album cover...! Fuck me...! I think that is them, you know... They don't look as sweet as they normally do there... Their looks and personalities in real life are exactly what you'd expect from their voices (I met them after a gig in Toronto - they were lovely. Gave my friends and I a free album)...

They've only released two albums as far as I'm aware. My favourite is 'Finally We Are No One', as it's got more of their beautiful voices on than 'Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today is Okay', which is more straight-forward, child-like sweet electronica...

On the subject of gorgeous, child-like, foreign voices: Stina Nordenstam, anyone...?

I agree they are pretty good. This whole genre between ambient and dreampop is amazing.

Other bands that are like those mentioned are: Dntel, Lali Puna, Autechre, Tristeza hasn't been mentioned, Styrofoam.

Autechre would lead into Mouse on Mars, Opiate, Squarepusher, etc.

IT'S ALL GOOD.

I was checking out some Kinski reviews and stumbled upon this hilarious review:"'rhode island freakout' is rock. it is so rock it hurts. i threw up 3 times in 2 minutes, and then i jumped out of my second story apartment window. when i got out of the hospital 2 days later, i came home and put it on again. i took a pair of sewing scissors, and i stabbed my forearm til there was nothing left but some tendons. i'm typing this one word at a time, looking for the keys with my left index finger. but i don't care. and i'm scared to rock out again. but i will. kinski never ever ever stops the rock. and neither will i."

ok...Mogwai is in town tonight...and I am not going.  I am pissed off, please don't rub it in.  I am not going cause I decided I needed to get 4 new tires for my dirty whore of a car.  So I can't justify the funds.

...but while waiting for my car to get done, I picked up a Maxim mag (I know, I know...but it was either that or some dirttrail 4-wheelin' hotrod mag).  It was an older issue (also had an interview w/ Trista bachlorette....lame, but wow she's hot) and in the music section the was a review of hail to the thief.  Now...along with it...they recommended Sigur Ros, Mogwai, and some other band I had never heard....

What's the other band in this article, as I have completely forgot what I was tryin' to force myself to remember as soon as I got home?...and are they any good??...and why did I get sorta pissed when I saw these great bands mentioned in Meatxim??

ps. I know there are to be someone who reads this magazine here.  Come Clean!!!

Despite the crappiness of Maxim, their music editors have proven to be remarkably cool. This extends to Maxim Blender, which is a remarkably good music magazine, once you get past whatever pop starlet is posed alluringly on the cover (not that I'm complaining about that, of course).

That said, I cannot answer your question. But I'd be interested to know what that band is...

yeah, this kid I work with gets that, and I steal it from him when in need of a ...ummm, bathroom read.  I didn't realize that was a Maxim creation, but can easily see it now.  I had never seen this mag until my bud brought it in.  He swears by it, being a 800+ CD collection total music freak himself, and I have come to like it as well.  Great bathroom read.

radio songs

mogwai are releasing a selection of radio sessions this autumn.

'government commissions (bbc sessions 1996-2003)' collects material from the post-rock scots' sessions for radio 1's john peel and evening session shows. it precedes a new album next year and is released on october 25.

fresh from the curiosa tour of the us, mainman stuart braithwaite said: "the reason we're putting out this collection is simple, the recordings here are worth hearing. some are definitely better than the official recordings. some are sketchy but to be honest so are we. sketchy but nice. nicely sketchy."

the tracklisting is:

'hunted by a freak' (recorded at maida vale 21st may 2003)
'r u still in 2 it' (recorded at the hippodrome 22nd december 1996)
'helicon 2' (recorded at maida vale 20th january 1998)
'kappa' (recorded at maida vale 23rd august 1998)
'cody' (recorded maida vale 23rd august 1998)
'like herod' (recorded maida vale 28th october 1997)
'secret pint' (recorded at maida vale 10th april 2001)
'superheroes of bmx' (recorded at the hippodrome 22nd december 1996)
'helicon 1' (recorded at maida vale 20th january 1998)
'stop coming to my house' (recorded at maida vale 21st may 2003)

Sigur Rós Reveal New Album Tracklist
Source: Pitchfork

If you hailed from a land of elfin strangeness and darkness for roughly half the year, you'd probably like to get your kicks from jerking around with the press, too. After weeks of cryptic messages and jokes about performing at the Ouagoudougou Arts Festival, the droplets of information about the new Sigur Rós album have now finally become a veritable flood. The band's official web site has announced that "takk..." (Icelandic for "thanks") will be released the week of September 12.

Sung mostly in Icelandic, the album contains 11 tracks spanning 65 minutes. On their current tour, they have premiered two tracks from the new album, "mílanó" and "gong". The first single, which has not been announced yet, will be put out via MP3 in August. The heavily accented and largely unpronounceable tracklist:

01 takk...
02 glósóli
03 hoppípolla
04 með blóðnasir
05 sé lest
06 sæglópur
07 mílanó
08 gong
09 andvari
10 svo hljótt
11 heysátan

Islanders explore a mainland
Sigur Rós is looking to broaden horizons for the slow mystery of its ethereal music. Source: Los Angeles Times

Mainstream radio play has always been out of reach for the band Sigur Rós, if for no other reason than much of its music has been sung in a made-up language called Hopelandish.

For its upcoming album, though, the group is instead singing in a language understood by a much larger population: Icelandic.

What next — a collaboration with new label-mate Ashlee Simpson?

Don't bet on it. But there is a new outlook surrounding the group as it has moved to Geffen Records for "Takk" (due Sept. 13), after last year's folding of MCA Records into the Interscope Records family.

Even outside of its hometown of Reykjavik, the group is looking to broaden horizons for the slow mystery of its ethereal music. And Geffen President Jordan Schur believes it is possible to far surpass the quarter-million U.S. sales of the group's last album, "()," — a.k.a. "the brackets album" — already an impressive number considering the nature of the music. But he wants to make sure any moves remain true to the art.

"We're just lucky to have them," Schur says. "They're like a jewel, and we want to make sure we don't do anything to scuff it up."

What the Geffen team has done is gotten involved in the planning for the album more intensively than the U.S. labels had before. Not that it's all work.

"I've gone over to Iceland myself several times," Schur says. "I've gone out drinking with them all night!"

More to the point, the band and its management have spent time in L.A. and New York meeting with Schur and his staff to brainstorm on new ways to promote the album.

"Management told me this is the first time [the band members] had a pre-release meeting to discuss the work that is going to be done," he says. "They've never really stopped to focus on how to market records."

To that end, Schur says he has no intention of trying to push Sigur Rós into conventional approaches. Schur sees the level of success that the group has achieved in terms of album sales as just a starting point, with further potential pointed to by Sigur Rós' ability to headline the Hollywood Bowl, as will happen in the fall. But for now, he prefers to focus on noncommercial radio such as KCRW-FM (89.9) and other alternative means of exposure.

"Let's face it, there's a game to the music business," he says. "You have to have a hit song, great video, go tour, create excitement around that. But the way you win with them is that you do not play the game."

The label, though, gave Sigur Rós no artistic input. Any evolution on that front came from the musicians alone.

"To us, this record seems more positive than the last one," says Georg Holm, suggesting that perhaps with the previous album, songs had gotten worn out from being played in concert before the set was recorded. "This time we have deliberately kept the songs away from the live shows so that when we came to record them we had no idea of where they were heading and could be more inventive and have more fun. I think that shows in the finished record, which is day for 'the brackets album's' night."

He's also enthusiastic about the Geffen situation and notes that A&R executive Joel Mark, who signed the band at MCA, is still on board. As for perhaps reaching to the commercial mainstream, Holm says it's not a consideration for a band known for its long, haunting soundscapes.

"Actually, we have one four-minute song, which is maybe the poppiest thing we've ever done," he says, "so you never know."

Indeed. Matt Smith, music director of rock powerhouse KROQ-FM (106.7), says he'd like nothing more than to be able to play a Sigur Rós song.

"You'd be hard-pressed to find someone at this station who doesn't love Sigur Rós," he says. "It's hard for that to translate to airplay. But we're excited about the record and about them playing the Bowl. We would love to be able to play something."

that is bizarre.

after investigating how this happened, it appears u updated this thread on page 3, in august 2004 http://xixax.com/viewtopic.php?p=154666#154666 and again in 2005 with sigur ros news. while the other (older) thread was not updated after april 2003!

this thread was actually about almost anything but sigur ros until then, mogwai news and even belle and sebastian (?!!) were discussed on the first couple pages. and now u know the rest of the story..

as expected, they were brilliant.

the level of hot chicks that came to the concert were the best i've ever seen. i didn't want it to end. everyone was, like, feeling it, u know? amazing tracks from their new album, and the highlights were surprisingly from (untitled). for those who are going, here's a brief list of DOs and DO NOT DOs to sigur ros appreciation:

-do NOT talk during the songs, and if u can help it, between them. no one gives a flying fuck whether u know the song or not, no one wants to hear ur review, if u can't tell whether it's a new song or an old one just save urself the embarrassment and keep ur mouf SHUT. please. woo and all that at the appropriate times.

-standing is all well and good but consider ur level of fitness. the discomfort of standing for a good 2 hours may ultimately detract from ur experience. also, it doesn't matter where u stand, find a spot where u can get into it and just go with it. sumtimes 3 rows from the front is just as good as the front.

-if ur tall, let the small ppl go through, it's not like they'll block ur vision anyway.

-the merchandise is not worth the price. i'm sorry, it just isn't. save ur money and buy the hot chick next to u a drink.

-jónsi may sing into his guitar. if u hear anyone laugh, punch them in the guts.

-don't go cos u think it'll be cool to be seen there, go only if u really like them. don't kid urself, the best concert experiences are when ur surrounded by ppl who actually like the music and aren't looking around at everyone BUT the band. enjoy it, they're sumthing to behold.

What a strange question. Are you actually invested in the answer enough to ask something like this?
Title: sigur ros & mogwai
Post by: life_boy on August 08, 2005, 04:03:30 PM
Yes, it wasn't at all meant as a flippant question and I understand the amount of thought and analysis that is required for the answer.  I'm very interested because I know Pubrick has been a Sigur Rós fan for a while and I respect his opinions.  He brings a unique critical eye to such matters.  He seems to have a strong respect for the band and the music.  I am curious how one assesses the strength of albums by a band like Sigur Rós and how initial assessments of those albums change over time.  Asking for a "ranking" wasn't a call for a list, but an analysis of what the albums say and why it is important.

EDIT------
Post Script: I also realize and understand that an answer to my original question may not come soon...if at all.  But, because I am interested in hearing the answer, if one exists, I thought I would throw the question out there all the same.

Just saw sigur ros live. Christ, it was one of the coolest concerts, if only for the way they ending with Popplagio. The two coolest moments were when he sang into the guitar on svefn-g-englar and this humongous pause in one of the songs off of ( ), but I could be wrong about that. It was just so peaceful and quiet. Like the audience was dancing with or making a move on the band and both were taking a break to consider what was happening. Fucking awesome.

just got back from seeing sigur ros at beacon theater here in ny. great, great show. they started off with glosoli, and they just rolled through all the great songs for around two hours. some highlights include the long pause during "loftarasa"(i don't know if they have been doing this all tour, but they pause the song, and backround video of dolls, for an extended period of time, and then jump back in. the whole place was silent) and "vaka", in which there were some moments where i almost cried

if you can, i highly suggest seeing them. it was my first time, and i will def catch them next time they are in town. and get there early, because the opening band, aminia, are really good. pubrick said it best when he said "mum without the vocals"

EDIT: Setlist
glósóli, ný batterí, svefn-g-englar, sæglópur, njósnavélin, viðrar vel til loftárása, vaka, hoppípolla, haffsol, smáskífa // encore: popplagið, avalon outro

Mogwai to preview new songs

The band are treating fans to a New Year tour

Mogwai have announced plans to premiere new material from their fifth album in the New Year.

The post-rock pioneers will give fans the chance to hear tracks from the follow up to 2003's 'Happy Song For Happy People' for a seven day jaunt of the UK and Ireland.

They will play:

Dublin Temple Bar Music Centre (January 7)
Belfast Spring and Airbrake (8 )
London ICA (10-14)

Following their tour dates the band will also release new single 'Friend Of The Night' on CD, 7 inch and as a digital download on January 30.

Mogwai will also play a gig in Edinburgh for the mental health awareness charity One In Four and a concert in Glasgow for Refugee Awareness later this month.

The dates are:

Edinburgh Cabaret Voltaire (November 28 )
Glasgow The Arches (29)

The as-yet-untitled album was recorded in the band's new Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow with producer Tony Doogan.

It is due for release next March.

from the matador newsletter:

february signals the arrival of mogwai's new full length studio album, 'mr. beast.'

produced by longtime associate tony doogan and mogwai at castle of doom studio, it's nothing short of a monumental moment in mogwai's storied tenure. though there are still hints aplenty of the subtle beauty that adorned big chunks of 'rock action' and 'happy songs for happy people', there are an equal portion of headcrushers on this one that will leave you gasping for air. particularly if you've been wearing a plastic bag over your face (which we do not recommend, by the way).

though mogwai will be hitting the us early next year, the band have already announced a slate of intimate gigs at london's ica for next january, along with a couple of shows to benefit mental health organization one in four in glasgow and edinburgh respectively, later this month (28 november at cabaret voltaire, 29 november at the arches)

Title: Re: sigur ros & mogwai
Post by: mogwai on July 06, 2006, 11:52:51 AM
walrus is right because "rock action" (2001) is probably the most accessible, maybe. then you should go with the others like "happy songs for happy people" (2003) and "mr beast" (2006). if you really like that sort of stuff and want more there's "come on die young" (1999) and "mogwai young team" (1997). those two are quite moody, gothy (?) and dark but they also contain some beautiful stuff. there's also compilation albums like "ten rapid" (1997) "ep+6" (2001) and "bbc sessions 1996-2003" (2005). and a quite goodish remix album called "kicking a dead pig" (1998) you might buy if you've gone mogwai mental. like me. there's also the "my father my king" (2001) single which is a 20 minute long song. they've begun to release singles to their albums and they contain mostly throwaways, remixes and live versions etc. enjoy!

he'd been wanting to leave for a while, and had said his departures privately many times. then one day he finally went through with it, with blunt finality as you can see. i'm sure he'll still browse the site, even long-departed phil marlowe can be seen walking the village streets in the darkest hours of nite wearing an "i killed laura palmer" shirt.

From MTV:

Ethereal Icelandic rockers Sigur Rós have pieced together a pair of releases for November 6. Hvarf/Heim is a double-CD: Hvarf encompasses five new recordings of songs — some previously unreleased — from various junctures in the band's career. Heim features six live acoustic versions of songs from Sigur Rós' four albums. A DVD is also on the way — "Heima" follows the group as it performed a series of free concerts in its native Iceland last summer.

Lilo & Stitch & Sigur Ros
In between writing and directing a pair of animated features for Disney, Dean DeBlois decided to make a documentary about one of Brad Pitt's favorite bands.
Source: FilmStew.com

The buzz has begun. Thanks to a preview screening this week in London, music critics are raving about the documentary Heima, a chronicle of ten free, secret location concerts given in Iceland last year by the band Sigur Ros at the end of their "Takk" world concert tour.

From a Hollywood perspective, the noteworthy element with regards to the film, set for November DVD release, is the name of the director who shot it all in high resolution: Dean DeBlois. What's a guy who made Lilo & Stitch and is currently in pre-production on The Banshee and Fin Magee doing at the helm of a concert film with a title that translates from the Icelandic as "Homeland?" Turns out he, like Brad Pitt, is a friend and fan of the group.

"Sigur Ros' ambitious gesture of playing free, unannounced concerts in every corner of Iceland struck me as noble and beautifully strange - something unheard of in our jaded world," DeBlois explains in an interview with UK website Gigwise.com. " I wanted to present an intimate view of the band and their country from my own wonder-filled, foreign eyes."

DeBlois is actually Canadian, not American. After graduating from Sheridan College, he worked in Ireland with filmmaker Don Bluth on A Troll in Central Park and Thumbelina before joining Disney Animation in 1994. Should there ever be an opening on an animated feature soundtrack for some funky Icelandic music, DeBlois knows just who to call.

from wiki:
"Heima and Hvarf-Heim (2007)
In August 2007, a limited DVD+CD edition of the 2002 soundtrack to the documentary Hlemmur was released. Hvarf-Heim is set to be released on 5 November (6 November in U.S.) , a double compilation album containing studio versions of previously unreleased songs ("Salka", "Hljómalind" (formerly known as "Rokklagið"), "Í gær" and "Von"), on Hvarf, and acoustic studio versions of the songs: "Samskeyti", "Starálfur", "Vaka", "Ágætis Byrjun", "Heysátan"and "Von", on Heim. On the same day (20 November in U.S.) Heima, a live DVD of last summer's Iceland tour, will be released. Just prior to the release of Hvarf-Heim, on 29 October, a single named Hljómalind will be released. A tentative date for a DVD+CD release of the 2002 orchestral piece Odin's Raven Magic is set for January 2008.

To promote their film 'Heima' in England the band played an exclusive concert at the Cecil Sharp House as part of the BBC Electric Proms. The band gave an performance before the film 'Heima' was played. After the film, there was a short Question and Answer session"

i'm confused. so there are 2 different DVD/films that are out now?
this whole time i thought it was the same thing.

Sigur Rós are plotting a batch of theatrical screenings for "Heima," the new documentary film they released late last month. The movie, which revolves around a series of free shows the band played in its native Iceland last summer, will be shown Tuesday (San Francisco, Denver); December 19 (Boston, Atlanta); and December 20 (Austin, Texas; Seattle).

Has anyone else heard the new one?

It's a good album on its own terms, but if you're holding Sigur Ros to Sigur Ros standards, I'd say it's more than a little disappointing.

I expected more than this after Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do... I thought they were going somewhere. There's really nothing new here. A few great tracks, yes, but it's mostly the same chord progressions we've heard hundreds of times in other music and the same vocal stylings we've heard on every other Sigur album.

Save a few songs, like Gobbledigook, Vid spilum endalaust, and Sud i eyrum, the whole thing doesn't have much impact. I wanted not only more experimentation, but more power. There are far too many tracks on the album that are quiet, slow, unemotive, and unoriginal.

Sigur Ros' New Album Is All About 'Doing Whatever We Feel Like,' Including Singing In English
Icelandic post-rockers let loose, ditching their meticulous epics for a more joyous new sound.
Source: MTV

You've never had to be fluent in Icelandic to understand Sigur Rós's music, though it would probably help.

For more than a decade now, they've been making massive-sounding, glacially paced post-rock, with lyrics delivered in Icelandic (or sometimes in a completely made-up language called "Vonlenska") by otherworldly voiced frontman Jónsi Birgisson, and in the process, they've developed a worldwide following — almost in spite of themselves.

So when time came for the group to being work on the follow-up to their 2005 album Takk ..., they decided to throw those loyal fans another curveball. For the first time, they ditched the meticulously produced epics for which they'd been known, and let things get loose. They were going to have fun. And, in perhaps the boldest move of all, they were going to make their songs more accessible ... by singing in English.

"We talked about it often, and for this record it was the right time," bassist Georg "Goggi" Hólm told MTV News. "It is a record where we're kind of letting go and doing whatever we feel like and not thinking too much about it. So, we decided to try writing songs in English this time. Some of them just didn't work out, so we switched them to Icelandic, but for one song — the last one on the record, called 'All Alright' — it worked, so we did it in English."

And with that, the new Sigur Rós was born. The group wrote a boatload of songs over one week, shelved them for a year, and then, early last year, they revisited what they had done. With the help of legendary producer Flood (Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, U2), they began to assemble the bits and pieces. Moving at a breakneck pace (in about a month), they completed the new album, which they gave the decidedly Sigur Rós-ian title Með Suð í Eyrum Við spilum endalaust (it means "With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly").

"The attitude for the record was doing it quick and fast and leaving the mistakes in, and with that comes spontaneity, and happiness and screaming things out," Hólm laughed. "So, in that spirit, it was all finished within a couple of months. It was really spontaneous, and I think it was something we really needed, because we usually take two years to finish everything, so it was time we just let it go."

"There are moments that we probably could've gone back to fix, but we decided to leave them in because we wanted it to be done fast," drummer Orri Páll Dýrason added. "We were recording strings in [keyboardist Kjarri Sveinsson's] living room, and he went to the bakery at one point, so we kept recording. And at one point, he comes back and there's a 'drrrring' of the doorbell in the middle of the song. But we kept it in. We kept everything in."

And that loosening of the reigns isn't the only change that can be heard on the new record. There's also an unabashed sense of joy in many of the songs, like first single "Gobbledigook," which is full of handclaps and whistles and sunny, strummy guitars. The accompanying video is packed with nudes galloping through the forest. It's about as un-Sigur-Rós-ian as you can imagine, and the concept has spilled over into the band's notoriously minimalist (and quiet) live shows. For the first time ever, fans are standing, cheering and even — gasp! — rushing the stage. And the band couldn't be happier.

"I think we've changed a lot musically — and in life too — we have grown up, and we're all liking people being quite noisy. We're liking these standing audiences," Hólm said. "Sometimes it's boring when people are sitting there going, 'Ssssh! Don't say anything,' because we're up for a rowdy crowd."

"It makes us happy, too," Dýrason said. "People are worried that if they speak during our shows, they'll cause us to make mistakes. But we think it's OK, because we always make plenty of mistakes. It's fine."

statement from the official mogwai site:

US/Canada dates cancelled

We are sad to announce that we have had to cancel our remaining American and Canadian shows due to ill health. Our other dates in Europe and Japan will be going ahead as planned. We will re-schedule the shows in 2009.

Martin explains what happened

I was taken into hospital last night almost immediately after the show at ATP. I've been having some problems with my pacemaker for the duration of the tour and it unfortunately culminated in me being sent to the emergency room. The doctors there initially thought i would have to have corrective surgery at a larger hospital nearer NYC but i have been given the all clear to travel home on the understanding that i go straight to my cardiologist on arrival back in Scotland.

Tbh, i'm really bummed about having to go home and feel for the folk who had bought tickets for our upcoming shows but i can honestly say it would be almost impossible for me to carry on at this point as my pacemaker has broken skin and the surrounding area has become infected.

I changed my name to my real name because I was a wee bit sick of the previous name. And also because I was disappointed of their album "The Hawk is Howling" which came out in 2008. I've grown to like some of the songs but as a whole it sounds like their second album "Come on die young". Which is their best in my book and "Howling" sounds a wee bit like a light version of that (no pun intended for Mogwai hardcore fans). I recognise Mogwai as Radiohead, the kind of bands that likes to rediscover themselves within every album they release. But with "Howling" they sound like they were too lazy to even bother do something. Which may sound a bit harsh because it's only one album I kind of dislike by them. Hm... Anyway, I also wanted to people to discover them by their name, not by my alias and maybe it would be a wee bit confusing when there's a person posting about a band with the same name. :ponder:

I dunno, 50/50, the one half is mostly because that's their first tv performance in 13 years! And the half is the pride I feel watching them on a tv show. Anyways, if you want to know some uninteresting trivia about the drummer. That's James Hamilton from the electronic band Errors (signed on Mogwai's own label Rock Action Records). He was substituting the original drummer Martin Bulloch during their recent US tour.

Pubes, download "Hawk" for the sake of it. Lemme me know what you think of it. Thanks.

Remember that user here named Mogwai? What a character that guy was! How come he gets to post if he's registered as a guest, what makes him so special? Anyways, good riddance with that dude. To quote the David Lynch song 'I'm so glad he's gone...'

Hawk isn't that bad...

It has grown on me since my wee diss of the album. Batcat is without a doubt the best song on the album. But on a overall observation there are too many slow songs. That's why I think their recent album is a step up from moody to almost pop songs.

Eww, someone got Shia Labeouf in my Sigur Ros! His penis is in there, too.

uck, go to hell, Shia. Trying to be all "deep." I seriously haven't liked him in anything I've seen besides 'Even Stevens.' He should stick to comedy, funny kid.

The video was pretty lame until those dude's busted in ( I'm guessing they're part of the band? )
I'd never listened to Sigur Ros before, so that's what it is, eh? Mainly just instrumentation? That's cool, I mean what's not to like about it? I couldn't see myself getting into them unless I was going through an introspective phase, though.

I am not going to watch that video for fear of ruining sigur ros.

Reelist if you've seen the life aquatic, vanilla sky or mysterious skin then you've listened to sigur ros, probly cried to them too.

E: Apparently the post I was responding to was deleted...

Yeah that song is a bit weak, but they've done some mindblowing things in the past. Give them a chance!

This remains one of my most favoritest albums ever:

And if you want something more poppy, see Ágætis byrjun.

I am trying to think of a band that I think Mogwai fans may know.

They were/are? experimental. I think they have elements of ambient and industrial. At least active in the early 2000s and probably 90s. They put out CD-Rs in addition to albums through a label. Pitchfork covered them. They must have broken up or been on hiatus for a long time. I think the name is one word. That's all I got. =)

It was Wolf Eyes - Slicer.

I don't seem to be getting Notifications anymore. I am staying away from The Master and Breaking Bad threads until I get caught up, but I'm set to be Notified with this thread and got nothing.
