...as to why membership to DavidLynch.com isn't a rip-off?  Does anyone really believe that the site has "not accepted sponsorship or advertising to avoid censorship or influence of its content" and not because he's trying to make some extra bucks?  Do you seriously believe a sponsor couldn't be found that wouldn't try to alter content on the site?  What about all the porn sites that have no trouble getting sponsored so visitors don't have to pay?  I think it's a bunch of bullshit...

The content is great, but I agree the sponsor thing is crap. Lynch baffles me sometimes, this is so not him.

Well... I don't know, I mean, not really having the spare money to sponsor his site with the very high membership fee, I can't really judge what he puts up there. But apparently, you get a very inside, privy look at what he's working on, including movies and such. I'd be willing to give Lynch the benefit of the doubt; if you can afford to cough it up, you probably get your money's worth. Problem is, most people can't/won't pay that much; they're not that devoted to one filmmaker that way.

"Lacan stressed more and more in his work the power and organizing principle of the symbolic, understood as the networks, social, cultural, and linguistic, into which a child is born. These precede the birth of a child, which is why Lacan can say that language is there from before the actual moment of birth. It is there in the social structures which are at play in the family and, of course, in the ideals, goals, and histories of the parents. This world of language can hardly be grasped by the newborn and yet it will act on the whole of the child's existence."

I wonder how many people are signed up... I'm thinking like a thousand, up to three thousand. 10 bucks a month, that's at least 120 000$ a year, probably more.

One thing is sure though, the navigation on the site is pure crap. I find stuff sometimes that I'm never able to find again.

Cecil

lynch also makes films which he posts on the site. he probably pays for them with the membership money

Damn that Lynch. Why can't he do anything conventional?

I'm not saying the site doesn't look good, isn't original, or anything. I'm not even saying the WEBSITE is crap, I'm just saying it's hard to find it's way in it. Bad navigation. Now if you like that, fine with me.

I don't particularly care, but I'm sure glad I'm able to not give a shit when people say something I think is wrong/stupid/foolish.

Booth, why did you think that joke was directed at you? Lighten up. It was a joke directed at Lynch himself. Nothing about you or what you thought of the site. No eye-rolling smiliey at the end. Just conveying how his website is like his movies.

Sorry, it seemed to me you were being sarcastic, and since you quoted me. Anyway, sorry
