Very interesting and true. I 've had forgotten about deconstructionism since college, but this is right on.

What about the dog? At the end of the film you can actually see the dog in it's "reference" form, no longer just as signified and signifier. Does this has a meaning too? Is this to say something in special?

jeremy i would like to see u take this theory further than the gooseberry bushes. i havn't read ur dogville-related reviews in the dogville thread so direct me to that if u've already broken down the entire film in its thematic element.

very promising theory, this article feels like an intro really. i look forward to seeing manderlay in this light.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'd definitely like to write a sequel in the future. Maybe I should take another look at Deconstructionism to see what other connections I can find.

And you're right, that dog has to be crucial. Maybe it means that when the town is destroyed, actual life is reconstructed. But my theory was that Lars von Trier was deconstructing, not the town. Hmm...

i am in love with the concept that the author of a text is not the author of its meaning...its sexual really...even biblical if so inclined...

i wouldnt say its an absolute value but i am positively equated...

i was fully expecting responses to your article in the form of...

"word up magazine"

or

"your a smart fucker"

but eye suppose you have created a space free of the typical debris...

I like this article.

I've studied Derrida but I have a hard time really understanding Deconstructionism. But I'm definitely going to work harder on it now.

This concept of stripping everything away and use chalk wasn't actually von Trier's idea. On the R2 disc of Dogville his 1st AD talks about how he and his friends expereimented with it in film school.

Really? Who experimented with it in film school... Von Trier or the 1st AD?

The first AD...

I'll take a look at it again and post more accurately what he says.

This interview with the 1st AD is in Danish so I don't understand all of it but he mentions how this concept isn't a new one, there was another director that experimented with it. He doesn't mention on what level he experimented, if it was in a film that was actually released or if it failed.
So it wasn't Anders Refn, the AD, that did it...

But I don't know how von Trier and this other director is connected, if there is a connection at all.

oh where to begin...

foreplay naturally...the author, the text, the meaning...talk dirty daddy

case in point...one must first have a sexual impulse, which strangely enough may be the derivative of a residual link in the ever continuing communicative chain(to be discussed later?)...let us name this one the author...for it is through this communicator the text originates...which is quite bluntly, the enlarged cock or the swollen clitoris...raw textual ready to be red, read, blue or blew...at times the book will read like a medical journal...then again a romance novel, love letter, hate mail, porno flicker, or session with a therapist will fill the thrill...what one intends to deliver through the sexual act will never be exactly what the recipient receives in meaning...whether the intention is pure or otherwise the limitless physical and psychological warfare being waged muddies whatever meaning might possibly exist..."deconstruction is energetic and uncomprimising" as is the sex act..."a hunter of meanings" like two lovers humping with purpose...for what, for what, for what...to fill a void, repeal rejection, effect affection, provide protection...the meanings are limitless and eternal...if one fucks for fun another is simultaneously fucked for faithfulness and if one makes love when hurt they in turn hurt the love they make...either whey, straight or ghey, this night, that dey...one must say that the sexual energy being transfered is imbued with multiple meaning and possibly misread by those who would mislead or even choose not to read...the text...another definition to follow

"the most valuable function of deconstruction is the removal of facades and the revelation of truth-the dirty, complex ambiguous truth" ... similarly, anyone who has been the screw or the driver, the pen or the paper, the victim or the raper, knows full well that good sex, great sex, the most intensual con sensual sext will strip away the false and leave nothing in its wake but this raw flaw of intricately entagled truth...whether that was the intention of the author or the quest of the referent I believe the result is always the same...I do not believe it is frequently tapped and that is unfortunate...like great seventeen year hold ass that simply must wait these truths are there for the taking but the price to be paid for indulgence is stiff...

the signifier, the signified and the referent...the relationship must be examined in a discussion of masturbation and the integral role it might play in the discussion of an author and his text being detatched from the author of the meaning...in this sense i might say text can also be viewed as a script that one creates in order to lay down tracks for a sexual journey...i would add this definition should not be limited to the fantastical solo act but also as an addittion to the previous definition discussed above...does one author a text or script for sexual acts? why of course...and when this encrypted text is performed, is its intended meaning intact on the other side...i believe not...at least not in whole, perhaps at times in part...

coitus interupt us...i must regroup now...for there is more to say but i fear the length and width of my discourse may soon sound of the gold trumpet and this is not music i have ever enjoyed...a radio edit i prefered...

all sew...dear gwen now wears little while crooning the big apple and i am easily diverted...what does she mean by the gyrations of her hips and the pursing of her lips...surely not what i am thinking...she wants my attention, my money...i want her affection, her honey...

thats the buzz

bee cool
