Nominate!

Attention fellow Xixaxers! On this, their twelfth year, the Xixax Awards are entering a new era! One of modesty, of restraint, and indeed, of unprecedented simplicity.

Here's how this will work:

  • In this very thread, members will suggest nominations. (More on that below.)
  • Admins will decide final nominees in an authoritarian yet benevolent fashion, greatly drawing on this thread.
  • We'll post polls for each category, and that will be the final vote.

Past Xixax Awards have involved a long, drawn-out process, and frankly a lot of work from everyone involved. This should make participation virtually effortless, optimized for your fast-paced 21st century lifestyle.

Now there's no reason to be left out. If you care at all about any 2013 movies you've seen, speak up!

So let's get started!

Post your nominations here, in any format or quantity you choose. Doesn't matter. This is an informal process. Make several posts if you want to; post what you can think of now, and come back for more later.

Is there an underrated film you're especially passionate about, or an incredible performance that no one is discussing? We're especially interested in those unusual choices to fill out categories.

If there's something you'd like to nominate that's embarrassing or shameful, PM me.

These are the categories. Obviously, suggest nominations for whatever you want. One, two, or all of them. If you're not sure which category a performance belongs in, don't worry about it.

JB does not speak for me when he promises benevolence.

Also, Llewyn Davis for everything.
Now you're in the *spoiler* place.

Adèle Exarchopoulos for best actress.

Act of Killing is eligible, right?  The internets credit it as a 2012 release.

Act of Killing is eligible, right?  The internets credit it as a 2012 release.

Act of Killing was so barely available in 2012 that it definitely counts as a 2013 nominee.

Also, Punch's worst film nominees reminded me that Drinking Buddies definitely deserves a Best Female Perfomance for Olivia Wilde. I never gave her much thought as an actress before, but she was so, so good in that movie. I would also nominate Jake Johnson as a dark horse for Best Male Perfomance.

EDIT: Definitley definitely.
Now you're in the *spoiler* place.

Have been updating my original post, but a mention for Toni Servillo for best leading dude.

And let's give a VFX nom for A Field in England. Rather sparse category this year.

The internets credit it as a 2012 release.

As Polka was getting at, don't go by the imdb release dates, because they usually include festivals. Usually look for at least a NY/LA limited theatrical release. Or just use the Academy list.
