Ghostboy

Maybe that'll put Infernal Affairs on the back burner, which would allow Scorsese to do something more interesting in the interim.

The idea of that remake has kind of grown on me. However, it's great that DeNiro is directing another film. He's learned with the best and his first feature, A Bronx Tale, was quite enjoyable. Looking forward to it.

Leonardo DiCaprio Catches Perfect Waves
Source: Variety

According to Variety, Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company has optioned feature rights to All for a Few Perfect Waves, David Rensin's upcoming bio of surfer Miki Dora, with DiCaprio eyeing the central role.

Dora, who was credited with sparking Malibu's surfing subculture during the 1950s and '60s, was also a seductive prankster who had a fickle relationship with his public persona. Frustrated with the exploitation of the surfing lifestyle, he dropped out at the end of the 1960s. In the early 1980s, he was arrested for check fraud and spent time in French and American jails.

High Fidelity screenwriter D.V. DeVincentis will adapt the oral biography. The book will be published by William Morrow in 2006.

DiCaprio Gets Lifetime Achievement Award

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - On the heels of an Oscar nomination, "The Aviator" star Leonardo DiCaprio (news) wrapped a high-flying week by accepting the Platinum Award from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
The award, created to commemorate the festival's 20th anniversary, was given Sunday night in recognition of the actor's "exceptional career," festival director Roger Durling said.

DiCaprio's arrival elicited screams from hundreds of fans — a festival first, Durling said. Being greeted in such a way "is kind of like an out-of-body experience," DiCaprio, who plays Howard Hughes in the movie, told Associated Press Television News.

"It's a lifetime achievement award, which is completely and utterly surreal, given I'm only 30 years old," he continued, with a laugh. "But, you know, what has it been? Almost 17 years now. I've done quite a few films. But what's really exciting, for me, is that this is what I really love doing. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life."

(Yeah, the next 30 fucking years! Lifetime achievement??)

The award was presented by Martin Scorsese, who directed DiCaprio in the Hughes biopic, 2002's "Gangs of New York" and the upcoming crime drama "The Departed," also starring Matt Damon (news).

"We've had some good luck together," Scorsese said. "There's an understanding between us, I think, even though I'm 32 years older. We seem to have a similar kind of interest in subject matter, detail, emotional and psychological impact."

Jane Russell, who starred in Hughes' 1943 film, "The Outlaw," said she was impressed by DiCaprio's quest for authenticity.

DiCaprio spent a full day with Russell, now 83, before filming started.

"It's too bad most of the books on Howard ... the person has never met him, didn't know him at all, and is just copying a lot of the other books," Russell said. "So, I was very happy that (DiCaprio) came and cared to come up and find out what (Hughes) was really like. I told him that Howard was very polite and quiet. He was stubborn, he wanted his own way, but it was always nice."

Once inside the auditorium, DiCaprio sat down for a two-hour career retrospective.

(Buahahaha! ^)

His screen credits include "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993), "This Boy's Life" (1993), "Titanic" (1997) and "Catch Me If You Can" (2002).

Par booking 'Chancellor' for DiCaprio
Source: Hollywood Reporter

Paramount Pictures is in final negotiations to pre-emptively acquire Robert Ludlum's political thriller "The Chancellor Manuscript" as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Michael Seitzman will write the adaptation, which will be produced by Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher's Red Wagon Entertainment, DiCaprio's Appian Way and the Ludlum estate.

The novel was published in 1977, though the big-screen version will be updated. DiCaprio will play novelist Peter Chancellor, who is writing a thriller about Washington power brokers being blackmailed with information gathered by intelligence agencies in order to alter U.S. policy. When Chancellor's work of fiction turns out to have stumbled into reality, he ends up on a run for his life, becoming like a character from his own novel.

"Michael Seitzman's reinvention of this story captures all the twists and paranoia that was part of the Ludlum genius but also takes on the contemporary relevance of the material," Paramount Pictures president Gail Berman said.

Seitzman, who penned the untitled Niki Caro project starring Charlize Theron, had been in love with the book since reading it when he was 10. He pitched his updated take to the studio, which then pre-emptively started to buy the rights.

"We live in this crazy post-Patriot Act environment where Benjamin Franklin's warning that those that give up essential liberties for temporary security don't deserve either one are being ignored, so the subject matter seemed ripe," Seitzman said in an interview.

Of DiCaprio, he added: "This is not pap, but there really is no one better for this than Leo. The author is supposed to be an author, not an action hero. You're supposed to buy him as a gifted intellectual. Chancellor has only imagined the world outside his four walls, but now, not only does he have to be a participant in it, he has to save it."

Red Wagon president Bobby Cohen will oversee the project along with Brad Simpson of Appian Way for their respective companies. Jeffrey Weiner and Henry Morrison will supervise for the Ludlum estate, while Paramount co-president, production Alli Shearmur will shepherd the project for the studio.

Ludlum's work has been enjoying a renaissance in Hollywood since "The Bourne Identity" became a hit for Universal in 2002. Universal made a sequel, "The Bourne Supremacy," in 2004 and also is developing "The Sigma Protocol."

Report: DiCaprio Hit With Bottle at Party

Leonardo DiCaprio was hit with a bottle while attending a party given by Paris Hilton's ex-boyfriend and needed about a dozen stitches to close a wound near his ear, People Magazine reported on its Web site.

The magazine said DiCaprio was at a party at about 4 a.m. Friday at the home of Rick Salomon when a woman struck him with what appeared to be a beer bottle. Friends took the actor to a hospital where he received about a dozen stitches, People said.

Los Angeles Police Officer Jason Lee, a department spokesman, could not immediately confirm the report.

"I have received no notification of that sort. That doesn't mean that nothing happened, but normally we would get those kind of notifications here," Lee said.

A call to DiCaprio's spokesman, Ken Sunshine, was not immediately returned, but People said the spokesman had confirmed the assault.

"While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had been repeatedly asked to leave the property," Sunshine told the magazine. "The attacker struck him with a glass object before being restrained by witnesses."

The attack was not expected to affect DiCaprio's work on a Martin Scorsese movie, "The Departed," which is shooting in Boston and New York, People said.

Find Your Magali

How does "Paris Hilton's Ex-Boyfriend" rank high enough on the social ladder to get the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio at his parties?

You'd think he'd be more likely to land Corey Feldman or Tina Yothers. Or maybe Tina Yothers' nephew.

Thesp signs for Blood Diamond.

Leonardo DiCaprio is lining up his next project, a dramatic thriller called The Blood Diamond, according to Variety.  The project, formerly titled Diamond will be helmed by Last Samurai helmer Ed Zwick. He rewrote the latest draft with Marshall Herskovitz.

The Warner Bros.-based project is described as an African adventure set in Sierra Leone around 1999, a period when the region was in the midst of a civil war.

Variety adds that Diamond will likely film early next year and that Leo is expected to film another Warner Bros. project, For Whom the Bell Tolls, in the meantime.  The Avaitor star is currently wrapping Martin Scorsese's The Departed.

He was also really good in "This Boy's Life" with Robert DeNiro who plays a near psychopath (convincingly).

DiCaprio to take trip for Leary biopic
Source: Hollywood Reporter

Leonardo DiCaprio is set to turn on, tune in and drop out for his next project. The actor's Appian Way shingle has tapped Obie-winning playwright Craig Lucas and Timothy Leary archivist Michael Horowitz to develop a biopic on the counterculture icon as a possible starring vehicle.

DiCaprio, who knew Leary before his death in 1996, has been looking to develop a film on the LSD advocate for several years. The film will focus on Leary's life between his enrollment at West Point in the early 1940s and his escape from prison in 1970.

Lucas, who in recent years has worked outside the Hollywood mainstream, once worked as a frustrated studio scribe. The unconventional writer-director, who made his helming debut last year with the critically acclaimed indie "The Dying Gaul," penned such films as "The Secret Lives of Dentists" and "Prelude to a Kiss," which was adapted from a play of his.

The untitled Timothy Leary project is being produced by DiCaprio, George DiCaprio and Brad Simpson of Appian Way under their first-look deal with Warner Bros. Pictures, and Hillard Elkins of Elkins Entertainment.
