Owen packing iron for 'Shoot 'Em Up'
Clive Owen is loading his guns for "Shoot 'Em Up," a hard-core action project, somewhat distanced from his Golden Globe-winning turn in the romantic drama "Closer."
The story begins with a woman having a baby during a shootout. The man who delivers the baby, called simply Mr. Smith, is entrusted with protecting it from an army of gunmen.
A January start date is being eyed. Michael Davis will direct from his own script.
Owen most recently starred in "Sin City" and has "Derailed" with Jennifer Aniston on deck. He is slated to begin shooting "Inside Man" opposite Denzel Washington for Spike Lee at month's end.
Anything this guy does is AOK with me. Have you seen "Croupier"? He was awesome in that movie.

i'm am joining this small clive owen bandwagon...i just saw i'll sleep when i'm dead...and even though the film was a little above average...i was complelety in awe of clive owen..he has such an awesome likability charisma about him...just like my boy crudup in Jesus' Son...he has very chiseled face and a great voice...seems to have some range too...king arthur, sin city, closer, plus the other shit...i'm excited about his film w/ denzel...
Watch "The Croupier", he's pretty good in it. The film's not so bad either.
Never seen or heard about "The Croupier", but I'm a big Clive Owen fan. Just saw "Inside Man" the other day and the guy's great. The voice, the charisma... dang! Coolest actor around, man.

no the, just Croupier. go see Closer as well, you might hate him though. in which case watch Gosford Park afterwards and you'll like him again.

Oh, but I did see "Closer" and it was the best performance by any actor in 2004, and that's why I love the guy so much. When I said I had just seen "Inside Man", I was saying that I had just seen it a few days ago... Anyway, who cares. He's the man.
Clive Owen to Play Philip Marlowe

Children of Men producer Marc Abraham has revealed to The Courier-Journal that he will reteam with that film's star Clive Owen for a feature adaptation of one of Raymond Chandler's short stories. Owen will play the private detective Philip Marlowe.
Just last December, it was announced that ABC is teaming with producer Sean Bailey on a "Philip Marlowe" series. The hourlong drama "Marlowe" would be a present-day procedural crime drama with noir aspects and set in Los Angeles.
That series, however, would not use Chandler's Marlowe books as source material for storylines.

Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment have set Frank Miller to adapt the Raymond Chandler novella "Trouble Is My Business" as a star vehicle for Clive Owen.
Strike partners Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing; Owen and Phil Clymer exec produce.
"Sin City" was Miller's first collaboration with Owen. "Trouble Is My Business" was chosen partly because it provides the actor with a similar chance to frame the narrative with a compelling voiceover, using Chandler's hardboiled prose as hard-drinking private eye Philip Marlowe cracks cases, busts heads and romances femme fatales in 1940s Los Angeles.
While many of Chandler's novels have been turned into films, "Trouble Is My Business" is virgin territory.
"Frank Miller knows more about noir than anyone I have ever met, and clearly the writing of Raymond Chandler has been an enormous influence on his life and his work," Owen said. "Miller adapting Chandler seemed like a perfect match."
Looking to set up another project with Owen after "Children of Men," Strike and Universal made an option deal last winter for Chandler's Philip Marlowe mysteries with Clymer's U.K.-based Chorion, which controlled the rights (Daily Variety, Jan. 23). They just recently decided on which title would kick off a potential series of films.
Deal comes as Miller takes a more active hand in writing and directing films. His graphic novel "300" was turned into a hit movie by Zack Snyder, and his graphic novel "Ronin" is being adapted as a directing vehicle for "Stomp the Yard" helmer Sylvain White. Miller is writing to direct a film based on Will Eisner graphic novel "The Spirit." Miller is working on a "Sin City" sequel he'll co-direct once again with Robert Rodriguez.
Owen, who'll next be seen starring with Cate Blanchett in "The Golden Age" for Universal, and in the New Line action film "Shoot-'Em-Up," is prepping the Tom Tykwer-directed "The International" for Columbia Pictures.
Strike is in pre-production on "The Creature From the Black Lagoon," a Breck Eisner-directed remake that Abraham and Newman are producing with Gary Ross, who wrote the script for Universal.
